People here at DHS have been stereotyped based on the clothes they wear, the way they talk and the way they act on a daily basis for years and I don’t think it will ever truly cease. Although,the words nerd, geek, jock, prep, know-it-all, try-to-hard and clueless may not seem like much, but they can really hurt. I believe stereotyping is just a way for people to make themselves seem higher or to put their own insecurities to rest. By doing this, they can bring down many academically, socially, and mentally. To begin, stereotyping gender seems to really be a problem at DHS. Women especially have it bad. I know a lot of people have different interests and ideas on the world. That doesn’t mean we should stereotype based on what someone else may like or what their name is. In Dilaria Hafiz article, “What’s in a (Muslim) Name?” she admits to having a habit of stereotyping where someone lives based off of their first and last name. In the 2 paragraph, she states that,” Germans most likely had names like “Heidi” and “Fredrich” while the French would lean towards “Michelle” and “Pierre”.’’ This goes to show how anyone can stereotype on little things. However, there are even more examples here at DHS. I have been called a nerd, artist, geek, and smart-aleck and Latina for my last name. I don’t mind these like a lot of people. But there are those who do and don’t appreciate it. I know there are worst names to be called, but even the regular stereotypes can be an insult. I’ve noticed a pattern with the research here at DHS. Most have either been called clueless, emo, or the loner. I tried going out towards different social groups to get a mix of ideas and thoughts. All in all, many were looked at as different and everyone knows that different means
