Have you ever sat down and questioned whether if stereotyping is really an issue? Many of us don’t really even know what stereotyping really is or what it does to our society. According to the Dictionary stereotyping is a form of pre-judgment. Which is as prevalent in today’s society as it was thousands of years ago. Throughout generations its purpose has stayed the same. Stereotypes are a huge issue in today’s society, as it will be for future ones. It labels a person on how they should act or live according to their sex, race, personality, and other fact .Not only do they affect society but also the person who is being stereotyped against. It does this by depriving one’s true ability for change and freedom of expression. They have created a distortion of how everything and every individual should be. Stereotyping is bad for society because it leads to discrimination, which harms individuals, and makes a negative future for future generations.

They aren’t right because a “noun” abstracts from a concrete reality some one feature and assembles different concrete realities only with respect to this one feature,” (Allport, 218). He explains why we group people in different categories give each other names as easy way recognition of a certain group. Although we may see no harm in the labels we give each other are nouns that can be racist, stereotypical and demeaning. Hundreds of innocent people die each year due to a title that was created for them. Because of a stereotype that some other individual somewhere in our society created, and decided certain individuals belong, and should be hated for, innocent people in our society end up being killed. It is not fair for innocent people to die. Nor is it even fair for any individual to have to walk down the street, knowing that they are hated because of something that is beyond their control. Whether it be their skin color, hair color, appearance, or the way they walk, it can be a stereotypical characteristic that creates the risk of being judged by another individual, or perhaps even killed.
Stereotypes can have excessive damage and it can have a very negative effect on the person in view or as a whole group. Stereotyping is not just another form of making fun of people, it also encourages rejection and outcast. Stereotyping is not only cruel and harmful to people, it can also have major effects on how a person behaves and acts towards other people. It also makes who ever is stereotyping look like a fool. It also forms barriers in communication and everyday life.
Everyone has heard the saying don’t judge a book by a cover. Sadly every minute of the day someone gets judged because of assumptions that are not correct. These assumptions overtime eventually lead to stereotypes. A stereotype is an image or idea of a particular type of person. Stereotyping a person is seen in many differents aspects such as race, groups, beliefs, appearance, etc. An individual may ask why people are stereotyped or stereotype. In reality stereotyping helps people categorize the different type of people. It narrows down the options of who one might want to associate with. Stereotyping can have its negatives, it makes people ignore how others really are. It may lead to a person not wanting to hang out with another person because of the stereotype that persons group has. Everyday the general public use cars for the means of transportation. But what about when people use their car for more than transportation, car enthusiasts often modify their cars to their likings. Enthusiasts often join car clubs to share their common interests with other car enthusiasts. Often the people in car clubs have a stereotype of being juvenile, racing a lot, low-life bums, and ghetto when actually most do not have those characteristics.
Gender stereotyping is an act of generalizing males and females. Gender stereotypes are based on a “complex mix of beliefs, behaviors, and characteristics”, (plannedparenthood, 1). These assumptions can be true but affect our judgment in a negative way towards the opposite sex. This leads to gender stereotyping causing conflicts between males and females, because of their unrealistic expectations of each other. Which will cause problems in their development towards adulthood? These problems arise in unnecessary conflicts in relationships, how they affect a child from early age and limit development in women.
Stereotypes play an important role in today's society and particularly in Propaganda. According to the Webster's Dictionary stereotyping is defined as a fixed conventional notion or conception of an individual or group of people, heldby a number of people. Stereotypes can be basic or complex generalizations which people apply to individuals or groups based on their appearance, behaviour and beliefs. Stereotypes are found everywhere. Though our world seems to be improving in many ways it seems almost impossible to liberate it from stereotypes.
A lack of understanding can be very damaging to resolving cultural differences. Most often, stereotyping is the result of unfair disregard, lack of appreciation for individual accomplishments or respect of cultural differences. Not only do the assumptions that motivate stereotyping damage the social fiber but it also disrupts purpose and order of life intended by God.

Even though these experiences offer us a chance to embrace and recognize diversity, this is not always the case. Most people find stereotypes to be obnoxious, especially when they have to do with sensitive subjects like gender or race. “Stereotyping is a generalization about a group or category of people that can have a powerful influence on how we perceive others and their communication behaviors” (Floyd, 61). I look around at work and see children the ages of seven – twelve with their hair done, bringing makeup to school and worrying about their appearances. Everybody in some way use it and do not even realized that it is being used. Misconceptions is a view or option that is incorrect because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding. Stereotypes is an often unfair and untrue belief that many people have about all people or things with a particular characteristic. These types of terms existe so we are able to make judgements on what we see and what we think about those certain people. It is often correct about what we infer but sometimes can be misunderstood. People get categorized by stereotypes everyday just by outward appearances or the group of people they are associated with. A stereotype is a preconceived notion about a group of people. People form fixed images of a group that are assumed that all group members act and behave is a particular way. A person essentially gets stereotyped by being “guilty by association” of a particular group. All stereotypes get based off of a bit of truths that all group members similarly have. Throughout the world, there are many different groups of people who share the same interests and beliefs as each other. We are all part of a group that we feel comfortable being with. Every person sees and knows the truth about the community they are part of. But the truth may be twisted and become negative. A stereotype is the perspective of group of people based on truth, but very exaggerated. Stereotypes start like rumors, if one sees a group in a different way, then another might see the same. Some stereotypes may be untrue, therefore the stereotype becomes a misconception. We all have stereotyped a group of people and even the people we love.
