Bowhunting is one of America's greatest pastimes. It is an addictive sport that many people enjoy and use to provide for themselves. One amazing thing about bow hunting is that it has adapted to fit the changing times of today's society. Hunting in general is a very important sport that has improved tremendously over time but has remained a tradition. Although the idea of bow hunting has remained nearly the same since the start, everything else about it has altered. Bowhunting has adapted new meanings, ideas, materials, and most importantly a better and more efficient way of harvesting animals. The bow and arrow is believed to be around sixty four thousand years old. From its creation to now the subtle changes made have created an impact not …show more content…
only on its users but on the sport itself. This is a sport that should be recognized due to its importance in history and the stages of evolution it has undergone.. One thing about this sport that has changed so much over time is the meaning and how it's performed. When the bow first made an appearance to the world it was used mainly for war, and harvesting animals. Also the bow and arrow was considered a sacred tool and was uncommon to the majority of people. As time changed so did the rarity and purpose of the bow . Of two hundred and thirty five million total Americans age eighteen and older, almost nineteen million (eight percent) shot archery or bow hunted(Archery 1). This shows how large the sport has become over time. While larger numbers are good for the sport this also brings new ideas, strategies and thoughts on the topic. The meaning of bow hunting in general has changed from spiritual necessity into more of a sport. When the bow first came about it's sole purpose was for providing. Now it is one of the most popular sports and ways to put food on the table. The sport of bow hunting grows and changes a little bit every year and allows for new ideas to come about, allowing many different types of people to join in and learn to love it. Much like anything else the world has seen, bows and its accessories have been modified to fit constant needs and changes. The bow itself has undergone many changes and styles to peak performance. The longbow was the first bow created, now there are four different bow types with thousands of designs and sizes in each category. Early bows were created using raw materials available in each region. For example, in the woodlands around the Great Lakes, Algonquian and Iroquoian people crafted longbows from hardwoods such as hickory, black locust, ash, elm, and ironwood (Bow 2). Such bows are referred to as self bows, because they were made from a single piece of wood. They were often very large, almost as tall as the person using them. Bow designs today are much more efficient and well made. The general layout of a bow is the same but its weight, composition and performance has been increased tremendously. One of the biggest triumphs in the history of the bow and arrow was the creation of the compound bow by Hollis Wilbur Allen. The compound bow inevitably allowed for less strength needed to pull back the bow but more speed, power and accuracy. The compound bows style has been re modeled thousands of times by companies to enhance all of its abilities and performance. Another very important item that has evolved in the bow hunting world is the broad head. Original broadheads were made commonly of strong lightweight rocks such as flint. The practical yet flawed design of the original broadheads were in need of changing. They were as simple as a triangular cut piece of rock tied to the shaft of the arrow. Although they did their job, they were not as deadly, accurate, or as fast as today's broadheads. Later in history the broad head became even more deadly because of the creation of iron and metals. The ability to cut, shape, and sharpen metal made all the difference. The simple yet complex piece of equipment has came a long way and continues to still improve. Traditional broadheads were deadly but they were much heavier and slower. The changing in structure weight and size of broadheads today allow for a greater speed and flight pattern. The major concept for a bowhunter is to harvest an animal as humane as possible, and with the changing of the bow and all of its accessories allows for this to become much more practical. Change overtime normally brings good things. Bowhunting has skyrocketed in the last one hundred years meaning that there is a lot more animals being harvested. Having changing equipment that increases your chance of a clean kill means all the difference. From the beginning of time there has been controversy over hunting and its level of being humane. People have changed tools and bow hunting equipment to insure that there is little flaw. Another important thing people have changed about bow hunting is its safety. Early people didn't pay much attention to safety like we do today. The bow and arrow we use today is much more durable and has very little chance of breaking and injuring someone. Many of these changes are the cause of growing numbers in the bow hunting and archery sport. If the bow and arrow were to stay the same and not revolutionise there would be very few reasons to use them. Studies show that from the year 1960 to 2000 the recovery rates of deer that have been shot has went up sixty percent (12 Details 1). This is a tremendous incline that shows that the improvements of arrows and more accurate tackle can increase your chances. Another great advance in the bow hunting industry was the creation of the cross-bow. The crossbow allowed for greater accuracy and many different people from old to young to wield it. Consequently, because of the cross bows extreme precision and lack of flaws it is the deadliest bow available. This sport has improved for the better and continues to improve for the people. Bowhunting offers a spot for any type of person there is.
Bows are made in many shapes and sizes to allow all ages to use them. Also one type of bow called the crossbow is designed so that people with special disabilities can use them. Because of this ability archery especially as a sport has become virtually limitless. The evolution of the bow is not only about the equipment changes, it is about the molding of equipment around the people. Because of the wide variety of people the sport can acquire there is no limit to what can be possible. Archery is a sport that nearly anyone can pursue, no matter the disability they experience. Crossbows in general have many advantages such as their cocking/ reloading mechanisms. The crossbow has a sort of pulley system of reloading that makes it exceptionally easy to reload. Moreover, a crossbows system of releasing is very similar to a gun. It is a simple single trigger action that most anyone can fire. The evolution from long bow to crossbow is a tremendous improvement in the technology of archery. Overall the crossbow is all around a fantastic opening for people with disabilities and or …show more content…
limitations. When the first bows were made they had very little to no accessories to aid with precision, stealth or mobility.
In today's world of bowhunting, there are numerous things to help aid with all of theses. One of the most important accessories bowhunters use today is the sight. The first people to shoot bows such as the Egyptians shot solely off of instinct and skill. Much like any gun a sight on a bow allows for the shooter to dial in on a target. The shooter is able to add pins on the sight so that they can shoot further. There are multiple different types of sights for many different purposes. One very well-known sight is the single pin sight. This is a sight that you dial in for shooting at ten yards for your specific bow. After the single pin is sighted in it is able to be turned vertically by a swivel that automatically sights itself in for every additional yard added (Archer's guide 2). The invention of sights for the bow has expanded range and accuracy for its users. Not only has the idea of a sight on the bow helped physically, it has made bow hunting/archery easier and much safer. Sights have expanded the possibilities for the bow and arrow and continue to make it more
popular. Another vital piece of equipment that has changed the way the bow is shot is the arrow rest. The arrow rest has evolved so much since the days when Freddie Troncoso created the first dual-pronged arrow rest. Freddie’s love for the bow and arrow started at an early age. On Christmas, in 1937, he received his first toy bow and arrows. He would lead a life that revolved around the sport that he loved and he would later go on to create the first arrow rest in 1974 (Brief 2). Fast forward to today and you will see that there are huge ranges of options to chose from in the archery world. You could choose containment rests, drop away rests, and shoot-through rests (a variation of Freddie’s design). They offer different benefits to the shooter, but the same goal in mind, which is more stable.Containment arrow rests are the fan favorite among many hunters because they remove any possibility of the arrow falling from the rest. The most popular of these types is the Whisker Biscuit that uses bristles to contain the arrow snugly. They are excellent for shooters that are new to the sport. A downside to these rests is that some believe they diminish an arrow's speed. They also have a tendency to affect the fletching on the arrows if they are not shot perfectly.Drop-Away rests have definitely come to be a very popular option today. They are also commonly referred to as fall away rests. They drop away from the shooter when the arrow is shot. If you are someone who is very particular about the fletching on your arrows then this will help calm your worries. These rest also cradle the arrow so it will not necessarily fall easily. Then we come full circle to the shoot-through rest. They are the easiest to install. The arrow rests on top of the prongs that cradles the arrow. The prongs are spring-loaded so that they drop away as soon as the arrow is shot. With this type, you can make sure that the fletching on your arrows will not be damaged. It is a testament to Freddie’s ingenuity that the prong rests design is still of relative importance in the archery market. In modern times, archery is more of a sport than a martial discipline. Though it is still a popular pursuit across the world, both for hunting and as an activity in its own right. The many types of bow hunting has sprung up and become very popular in today's world. Archery is in many different forms, such as competition, three-dimensional targets shooting, and recreational.Three dimensional shooting is a large sport that many people attend. It is very similar to competition shooting. This particular sport involves three-dimensional targets usually shaped as various animals. The shooter is set up on a course with any given scenario and has one shot to make their best shot possible. It is a very attractive sport that continues to grow. One of the largest and most common types of archery is competition shooting. This type of archery consists of multiple different age groups with multiple people in each group. Normally the groups are based on age and or poundage of the bow. Competition shooting is a fast growing sport that has even made its way into the olympics. Archery first appeared in the Olympic Games in 1900, was contested again in 1904, 1908 and 1920, then again, after an absence of 52 years, from 1972 to the present. Archery and bow hunting participation jumped over twenty percent from 2012 to 2015, with 23.8 million American citizens age eighteen and older taking part a year ago (Deja 2). Bowhunting is not the only growing sport in the archery category. Competition shooting is fast growing and has surpassed hunting in general. The sport will continue to grow and reach higher rates every year. The overall sport of archery and bow hunting has adopted many members from all ages. Due to the high-rise in production and amount of people joining in on the sport there has been a very large increase towards its financial side. This sport has contributed millions of dollars and donations back to the community. This sport has many organizations that give back to its people and community. Also the sport of bow hunting on an average year collects around 796 million in licenses and fees alone. In only retail spending archery has collected thirty eight billion in one year. Moreover, bow hunting organizations such as conservation departments donate millions of pounds of venison each year to people in need. In 2010, 11 million meals were provided to the less fortunate through donations by hunters (From 3). The sport and the archery community have evolved as one and have contributed an abundance of needs back to its community. the changes and needs today's people have. Hunting in general is a very important sport that has improved tremendously over time but has remained in a sense the same as a tradition. Although the idea of bowhunting has remained nearly the same since it’s start, everything else about it has altered. Archery and the sport of bowhunting has developed many new products and ideas towards the sport that have seemed to revolutionise itself. Archery has been developing for around sixty four thousand years and has yet to reach its full potential. From the bows creation to today the bow has been remade and made better in so many ways. Despite theses changes it is still a very important part of history and should be known for its original design and purpose. The bow and arrow has become very important in today's society for its changes, rise in popularity, and purpose. The sport of archery should be remembered for its impact in history and incredible changes over time.
Since three-forth of the world is composed of bodies of water, it’s natural that a great number of people rely on fishing for their livelyhood or just for their recreation needs. There are numerous of fish species swimming under the lakes, seas, ponds, and rivers. Most anglers consider fishing as the delight in their purpose-driven life, a sport, as they say.
The draw weight of the longbow was eighty pounds. That is a lot of weight. Soldiers hated the draw weight of the bow because they couldn’t pull back on it and thought they might get killed easier if they tried to pull back on it (longbowdynasty.org). King Edward I thought that if the bow had a great draw weight on it the soldiers might get stronger while there fighting. Another reason is soldiers could pull back on the bow and release quickly and kill people faster. This hypothesis proved to be true as the English soldiers did fire more quickly causing the opponent to die faster (historylearningsite.org). As soldiers used the bow more often they did get stronger and could draw the bow easier than they could when they first started using it. Soldiers preferred the longbow over the crossbow because the crossbow had a draw weight of 120 pounds. That is a significant amount of weight compared to eighty pounds (militaryhistory.org).

In conclusion hunting is not for everyone, but those who do take pride in it. It takes a lot more than just to walk in the woods and pick a spot. Deer use thousands of runs throughout the woods. Spending weeks searching for the right spot in order to make a kill. It takes hours of sitting in a stand not saying a word or moving a muscle. You could spend days, months, or even years without getting a kill if you do not put in the time. When the time comes if you’ve done what I’ve said in the above paragraphs, you will be
I have been bow hunting since I was about 8 years old. I am going to go over the basic steps and necessary equipment needed to start becoming a successful bow hunter. Some of the key things you will need during this are a decent set of camouflage, a compound hunting bow and a place to hunt. Despite the time it takes to be successful; bow hunting can be very rewarding.
Since the beginning of time man has been hunting animals for food. Even before fire, man needed to hunt, because hunting was the only way to eat. At first man used things such as spears and rocks to kill its prey. As man evolved, they started using bows and arrows. Next came an early model of what we use today, the firearm. It is powerful yet easy to carry around. It puts the animal through less suffering and is a lot more efficient than previous techniques. Hunting was once a necessity, but now it is a tradition, passed on from father to son as a way to spend time together, enjoy the outdoors, and experience what our ancestors went through in hunting their dinner. Since it is considered a sport some think we are killing off the deer population, when in actuality, “While most other big-game species have declined with the spread of urbanization, the whitetail has been able to adapt to its ever-changing environment. Through the efforts of state agencies and conservation groups like Whitetails Unlimited, wildlife officials estimate today’s whitetail population to exceed 30 million” (www.whitetailsunlimited.org).
Duck hunting is a very popular sport that is rooted in our american history. In fact, in the sports beginning, many hunters hunted out of boats that were known as the “sink boat.” The historical weapon of choice was a very large old gun style known as the “punt.” Although hunting is a historical sport, many americans still love to duck hunt and knowing a few essential facts can make a hunter much more successful.
They are a parasite; like a flea on a dog, or ringworm on a cat. They attach themselves to a location like other parasites attach to a host animal, roaming free to do damage as they please. Wild hogs are a nuisance animal that have quickly become overpopulated and under hunted. Many animal rights activist want to end or strictly regulate the hunting of these destructive creatures; however, these animals were not meant to wander wild the way that they do, once domesticated animals released for sport have quickly adapted to their environment and become the beasts they are today. Many states already allow hunters to go out all year long and hunt for the feral swine; however, in Arkansas, the current hunting law is that a hunter can take a wild hog while legally hunting another animal. Hunters should be able to go out and hunt for wild hogs, not be limited to killing them as they cross their paths or if they are spotted on their land. The only stipulations that should be placed on hog hunting are that the hunter must have knowledge of hunter’s education and a valid state
This Bowtech model generally offers draw weights between 40 and 70 lbs so that everyone achieves greater arrow speed and flatter trajectories allowing their arrow to fly through the wind effortlessly regardless of the weight that the archer can draw. Further assisting archers, Tomkat bows offer adjustable let-off varying from 65 to 80 %. Be aware, however, that some mods are slightly different depending on the production
Many people have misconceptions about hunting. One such misconception is that hunting is easy and any person can go sit in the woods and wait for an animal to cross the hunter’s path. However, people who believe this are sorely mistaken. Hunting is not just sitting in the woods with a rifle; there are many other aspects that must be considered. An individual must have all preparations complete, purchase or gather the equipment needed, and know what to listen for while in the woods.
Hunters often reveal that being in nature provides time to clear the mind. In the woods, there is no rush, no schedule, and no deadlines; nature moves at its own pace. This interaction provides a deep spiritual connection with the land, the wildlife, and our planet. Hunting has been around since the beginning of time and has been in many people 's lives for generations, these are some reasons why people all across America continue to hunt. Hunting has many benefits such as reducing deer related car accidents, controlling deer densities in heavily human populated areas, creates jobs, and feeding and supporting families. Thus, deer hunting is necessary for several reasons.
It’s a brisk November morning like any other day, but today isn’t any other day, today is the first day of firearm deer season. Shots are going off everywhere like world war three declared on deer. I’m wrapped in every hunting garment I own but winters cold embrace always finds its way in. My cheeks are rosy red and my breath was thick in the air. As I raise my shotgun and pull the trigger, my heart races and my hands shake. As I race after my prize, the sounds of leaves crunching beneath my feet are muffled by the ringing in my ears. I’m walking face to the ground like a hound on a trail and then my eyes caught it, my very first whitetail. I will never forget my first deer and the joy I felt sharing it with my family. Hunting is a passed down tradition for my family and friends. Throughout the world, millions of people participate in the spoils and adventure of the hunt. Hunting has been a pastime since the beginning of man. Hunting is one of those things either you like or you don’t like. It’s hard to explain the joys of hunting ,because it’s something one must experience for his self. Hunting does have laws and regulations you have to abide by. Are hunting regulations benefiting the hunter or the animal? This paper will discuss some of the regulations and laws, types of game, disadvantages of regulations, the pros of regulations, poachers, and ways to preserve wildlife and there habitat.
Many people see hunting and fishing as the slaughtering of innocent animals for no reason other than sport and fun. However, the truth is, hunting and fishing are beneficial to people, environments, and the economy. Hunting and fishing are beneficial to the economy because they cause a major economic impact. Hunting and fishing are beneficial to environments and people because they reduce damages done by wildlife overcrowding. Hunting and fishing are also beneficial to people because they provide a healthy, affordable source of food.
Bow and arrow improved this long-distance effect, have mechanized it and made it more efficient. Now, the extended arm could reach farther and the distance to the target became larger and more secure. From the beginning, man has used this weapon not only for hunting, but also for armed conflict, murder and raids.
