As a graduating senior, there are many stressful, but necessary preparation needed so we are ready for the next chapter of our lives. Whether I’m looking to find a job, going to graduate school, or take times off, these preparation and skills are still essential to have. Among all the enrichment activities, I have chosen “Informational Interview” and “The Job Search and Social Media”. My main focus currently is to find a job upon graduation; I want to acquire some work experience, and if necessary, graduate school will be an option down the road. Interview is perhaps the most important part of the job application process; it is an opportunity for the company to value you as a person and as a potential worker in person, and it is also an opportunity …show more content…
Physical appearance and communication are keys. Therefore practices are extremely crucial, and I personally have had a few mock interviews. Here is the one informational interview I did for the enrichment activity. The person who I asked for the informational interview, her name is Anne Weiss; she is currently a Global Investment Staff at MIT Investment Management Company. I met her through my father’s business partner, and we have been staying in touch since. Before we conducted the interview, I prepared numbers of potential questions that may be asked in a real interview setting. My preparation is targeting ESPN, which is the field I’m going into for career path. Anne and I spoke for about an hour via phone; she asked me random questions based on her knowledge, and provided feedback in the end of our conversation. It was extremely helpful and definitely a learning lesson. I’ve learned that mental preparation is just as important as the physical preparation. Even an informational …show more content…
Linkedin has become a critical tool for networking, connections, and job search. During my freshman and sophomore years, the university has been suggesting students to have a Linkedin account. However I didn’t start actively using it until the recent year. There are a lot to learn on the platform, and through this activity, I was able to observe five other connections and learn from their profiles. I learn that the profile picture is important; most people chose to have a profile that he/she smiles, they also chose pictures from a professional setting. One thing I do not like some of the profiles is the quality of their pictures; low quality picture perhaps gives bad impression or unable to give impression for viewers. I can also tell if someone put a lot of work and attention to their profile, for example, their experience at a position is well explained, skills and endorsement section is well thought out and presented. I usually do not like when an individual puts “Microsoft word” and “Microsoft excel” at the top of their skills and endorsement; I prefer attributes that are more related to their actual skills and field. In that case, viewers can get a better idea on the person’s quality and strength. Linkedin provides a great way to stay connected with people from the industry; it also gives me an opportunity to tell others who I am, what my skills are, and what field I’m interested in. I have
During the interview, she answered all the questions that I have brought up to her, which let me know
I must admit I began the interview with a few preconceived notions about my interviewee but as with any interview, if you pay particular attention to the person’s verbal and non-verbal cues it can give you tremendous insight as to who someone is at heart. Additionally, the medium in which an interview is conducted can greatly influence how the answers are interpreted. The interviewer needs to understand how to interpret what is being said and how it’s being said regardless of the medium. Interviews can also tell you a lot by what the person doesn 't say by interpreting the silence or noticing if the person strays off topic. Furthermore, interviews can give insight into the interviewer as well
Along with its focus on business interaction, our conception that while time spent on Facebook and Twitter is wasted compared to when spending on LinkedIn hides its side effect. Although LinkedIn provides job opportunity as well as connection and motivation from the peers’ messages of congratulation, like nonprofessional networking, comparison is evitable. Additionally, searching for jobs offer and waiting for response, building their professional profile are sources of
In unit seven we learned a lot about the job process. I actually learned a lot of things that I didn’t know before. For instance, I learned that companies offering jobs don’t necessarily have to take any applicants, and that they actually go through contacts to find a suitable person not as much as resumes. This really surprised me, whenever I think of the job market I think of applying for a job, handing out a resume, and interviewing. I never once thought that the companies and businesses offering jobs may look to social media and contacts instead. It truly changed my idea about what I would do to find a job after college. I would of course still apply and polish up my resume, but I would also turn to social media a lot more. It also made me think a bit more about how I present myself on social media, since many companies and businesses are turning to social media this means that I would have to make sure that all my social media posts are posted with a great deal of care, and kindness.
For that, I interviewed my boss, Karen. I see her almost every work day but there were still many things I wanted to ask her about. I knew that she had been married to a man before she met her wife, and that she still had his last name even after separating and remarrying. I also knew that her father was a Methodist minister and performed her marriage ceremony back when he could’ve gotten in a lot of hot water for doing so. I knew that she was adopted, too. But the rest of her life, the in-between moments, were still a mystery to me. So, I really enjoyed that interview. As you can tell from the transcription, we laughed a lot and got along well. I think she felt comfortable and she told me later that she had enjoyed talking with me. I also came more prepared and with more questions. It was hard to do my initial research on my student interviewee because there wasn’t a lot of prior information that I could find about her. With Karen, I not only had my own prior information, but she is also easily found on the internet. A lot of that has to do with her age and the businesses she has been involved
I conducted an interview about what it is like to be a RN. I find doing Informational interviews very useful to see what someone experance in the field that i might want to go into. I know that there are different nursing fields to explore with my RN degree. I feel that with a informational interview you get to see hear first hand someones experiance in different fields.
One important quote that stuck out to me while watching the KCTS9 interview was, “I had no idea that my small life could appeal to anybody”(15:03). This quote shows the Native American life by illustrating that their life can seem so small and they can feel as if they have no impact on the world. Which normally happens when you are in small Rez’s. One reason why I chose this quote is that it really shows how one can be not close with its heritage and all of a sudden realize that their culture can really make an impact on either another in the culture or even an impact on one's self. Secondly, because it proves how expanding your horizons can show you more about yourself and where you come from. Finally, I chose this quote because it shows you

As older siblings, friends, and cousins were denied position at school and in the work force, we realized that adults and employers had found Facebook. Our uncensored character was on display for future bosses, colleges, etc. and they were there to stay. Instead of references being the test of character for a job, it was the online identity that determined whether or not the application got even a second glance. In light of this revelation, we changed. Our Facebooks no longer reflected our true selves, but rather the person that we thought colleges and employers should see. Much like hiding our dirty laundry from prying eyes in the halls of high school, we could no longer wear our proverbial hearts on our internet sleeves, for the future was at stake. Much like what had once been the Old West, the internet was now connected with railroads—each leading back to the offline person. Tame and orderly.
LinkedIn is a website specifically established for the professionals all around the world to network. The website allows people to search for business contacts, manage their professional identity, research firms, join industry groups and identify desired career opportunities. This website is also being leveraged by the brands and recruiters and many corporate profiles have been established on LinkedIn to recruit candidates and develop a pool of potential candidates through networking (Lewis, 2012).
Social networks are increasing dramatically every year. Employers are turning to social networks because it is a tool to screen job applicant’s profiles. According to a survey conducted by jobvite.com (2013), 94 % of employers use social media profiles to recruit job applicants. This trend assists the applicants and recruiters. Job applicants should be judged by their social network profiles because social media give positive image about the candidate, prove the information in the resume, and help to identify if the person fits the culture of the company or not.
Interrogations are a form of interviewing that has been around for a very long time throughout the world. People from fields such as police, military, and intelligence agencies have employed the technique to extract a confession or incriminating statements. Interrogations consist of an array of techniques ranging from developing a rapport and so forth. During an interrogation a suspect or eyewitness are questioned authorities. Interrogations are more frequently utilized by police officers. As seen in a plethora of popular television shows, it appears that all it takes to get a confession or information from a person is a little screaming and chairing throwing, but there is way more to interrogations. When dealing with interrogations police officers are very aware of how to elicit specific information from suspects and eyewitnesses. It is way more scientific than the eye may see, when an interrogation is occurring false memories are easily created by eyewitnesses and suspects because of leading questions and source misattributions that cause for memory errors.
As college students and adults prepare for the real world, people are constantly faced with how to prepare for interviews and the hiring process with jobs. One factor of that is the gray area that is the idea of social media and networking helping to assist with the hiring process. Technology has become a privacy and employment issue that future employees face. When it comes to employment companies a have no boundaries and employers need to realize that social media should be used only for non-bias practices and not employment decisions based on someone’s Facebook post. The use of social networking has both its advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is “an Internet social network can help you connect with other people who share your interest, and find resources to ga...
This video mock interview was a great experience. The questions were based on interview questions that a company can ask you and prepared you for a real interview. This mock interview was fun to do and taught me many lessons I can do in a real interview setting. To start off, I had to prepare for this mock interview. Some things I considered when preparing was to firstly, look at the questions and briefly go over my answers for each question. After that, I had to wear my best attire and adjust my camera and lighting. Lastly, I had to remind myself with some tips when doing this interview. Such as, making sure there was no distraction around, controlling my speed and most importantly adjusting my body language. However, there are some things
