Language?is the most common aspect among human beings, and the most complex and interesting cultural inheritance in any given ideological reality. It is the instrument for communication through which humans express their existence, identity, culture, philosophy, etc. Humans are social beings; every act of social conduction involves communication with others. we build communities, societies, and nations via the use of language. If language learning is viewed this way, it includes mainly vocabulary, grammar rules, and the way students should construct sentences. Here, Language learning focuses on these areas in order to develop communication and enrich speaking abilities to communicate with the native speakers, etc. language becomes a social practice that aims at interpreting linguistic codes, and conducting meaningful sentences in order to establish consistent social and interpersonal relationships with others. In order to reinforce the student?s identity when learning a foreign language, teachers must, first, drive the attention of the students towards the importance of culture as a main cross cultural communication. Second, limit students understanding of the foreign culture in mere cultural facts, such as traditions, works of arts, literature, science, etc. this way the students learning of the foreign language does not affect their behavior nor does it reinforce cultural hegemony. To reinforce the latter cultural contents, Teachers of EFL should enroll students in a variety of activities; students can work in groups on a cultural activity and compare their observations (the teacher should make sure that groups deal with many different cultural manifestations). This is followed by a whole-class discussion during which all teams report on what they have found out. For example, students might come up with statements such as: ?In Poland, you have to take off your shoes when entering somebody?s house, etc??[footnoteRef:3] the aim of the activity should emphasize on knowledge based contents, so as to compare or contrast certain elements of the foreign culture with students? own culture. Language is a means of communication and it varies from one community to another. Everyone has a mother tongue which depended on the family’s upbringing. A second language can be learned along the way. There are also instances where a person is born in a community that speaks two languages and therefore, had to learn both languages. The quality of the languages learned will be affected by how well the community speaks both languages. This can later develop into a new form of language. The essay describes the frustration of the author who felt rejected by different groups for speaking a different form of language. Her essay aims to gain sympathy from readers by seeing the issue from her point of view. Anzaldua attempts to achieve this in her essay by raising issues on identity and discrimination. She wanted to highlight that language is not determined by a country’s physical borders.
Teaching world languages is a very specific, extensive field, and it should be noted that the texts presented here are only a small sample of what is available. Though it has long been known that language, culture and identity are interwoven, and extensive research to this effect has been presented, there exists an enduring trend to teach language solely as language. The texts presented within this annotated bibliography make it obvious that, as language is the main conveyer of culture, opportunities are being missed to help students develop their cultural understanding, and thus, their own identities, through the acquisition of second, or subsequent, languages.
There has been a raging debate over the relationship between language and worldview, and especially on cultural affiliations in different parts of the world. The main agenda is based on the origin of language, the unique features portrayed by humans, and its essence in the development of varying cultures, beliefs and practices. Language is one of the most basic necessities for human interactions in a society. In this paper, strategies to assist learners of the English language in their literal development for third grade learners. In the paper, three strategies that can be used by the teacher will be discussed. New strategies and research that will help the English language learners to gain in depth mastery of the language will also be discussed. Due to the widespread learning of the English language in most schools, addressing issues of the language learners is of vital importance. Teachers should have the understanding that cultures are what give someone identity and therefore no student should leave their culture for another. Instead, there should be the blending of different cultures so that students can appreciate and learn from each other.
Language is the basis of human communication. It is a cultural and social interaction, and the way language is used is influenced by the circumstances in which it takes place (Emmitt, 2010, p. 49; Green, 2006, p. 2). Children become aware that there are different types of language, including languages used at home, at childcare and at school, as they observe and participate in various language situations (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014, p. 39). Some of these languages may be unfamiliar, and children will need to learn the different roles and uses of language. The different roles of language in a child’s life are, therefore, part of their growing understanding of how to behave in society and in a particular context. As they experience different types and uses of language, children develop an understanding of how to use language appropriately for any given situation.
Even though there are advantages as well as disadvantages, the need for international language for communication, politics, economics and security is necessary and English is the best “language candidate” for that function. English is a language spread all over the world and it is used by millions and millions of speakers. According to my opinion, people should use English as a tool to communicate with all cultures but every country must keep their culture and language is a great part of it. In conclusion, language defines identity of a country and everyone should keep their language and explore others.
