What makes an incredible senior thesis?
This question I would probably direct at the teacher for the course, or the individual who is actually going to evaluate my final project. I would ask this question to an authority figure over the subject of Senior theses, academics who have read previous St. Edward’s students final works and can distinguish between the moderate and highly successful projects. I would ask them to describe to me the sensation that they had while reading an amazing thesis. This would then become my ultimate goal throughout the course as I attempt to combine my four years of study into a culmination of who I have become while attending university. I presume that the answers to this question would include: a highly developed

I would ask this question in order to narrow the scope through which I would select my idea or subject. The answer to this question would either be: “Yes, write about something in your major” or “No, there are no limits”.
3) Does the research have to be pre-approved before it can be included in the thesis?
This is more a technical question, a question that would ensure that I met all the requirements necessary for this assignment. The class professor would be able to answer this question by saying either “yes” or “no”. This question is pertinent to writing a successful senior thesis since by ensuring that my sources of proof are admissible, I can plan out and build sound arguments.
4) What is the average size of an adequate thesis?
This is a logistical question to ensure that I meet the expectations of St. Edward’s honor program faculty, and the standards established by past alumni. I would probably ask this question to my advisor or upperclassmen that have graduated that I am still in contact with. They would answer with either a page count or word count that would help me gauge the length of my senior

This question is mostly intended to give future me peace of mind, and frame of reference to possess throughout the process. I would ask this question to my older friends at the university, individuals who have experienced their senior year already. I really don’t know what their answers would be, since I am a freshman, I can predict that it might have something to do with the research necessary for this assignment, research can be daunting to students who have not had that much experiencing using and referencing lengthy academic articles or
In the article, “Understanding Writing Assignments: Tips and Techniques,” author Dan Melzer shares with his audience seven useful suggestions to keep in mind when starting any writing assignment. Melzer’s first tips are for readers to examine their rubrics for any key verbs that will tell writers what approach and genre their paper should have. Knowing what kind of writing your teacher wants will not only help a writer get started, it will also inform a writer what they can research to view examples. Next, he tells his readers to write for their specific audience, to make sure they know their teacher’s expectations, and to take into account what they have learned in class. In these sections, Melzer stresses the importance of asking a teacher
In high school, I struggled to make a developed thesis. I am argumentative by nature and that helped me when coming up with research questions and the foundation for a thesis. However, I had trouble asking the next set of questions to really show the depth in my arguments, which is necessary in college. While at Mason I have progressed with my thesis’, which can be seen when I wrote:
Nice job on this, Alex. I like the thesis, and it is developed well, but it isn’t that terribly complex. It didn’t flow that well in the beginning, but it got better. Very clear, but style and higher-level thinking will help you get to the A zone. clarity: A-, thesis development: B, evidence: B+, style: B-, convention: B. overall: B
For my Final Reflection Essay I attempted to focus on the most obvious adjustments I made from writing high school papers to producing college level essays. This approach compelled me to examine a few of the papers I submitted in high school and look back on the steps I took to write them. By reviewing my previous work I realized that during Dr. Kennedys English 111 class I have effectively learned how to apply an outline, utilize research, and incorporate that research into my final paper. English 111 has helped me to understand the importance of the multiple steps of writing a great college level essay by forcing me to complete each step individually. My overall performance in this class has been above average and I have really demonstrated dedication to improvement.

The class’s main goal is to help improve our writing ability and help prepare us for upper level writing. As freshman, most of us have never had to write a huge research paper, some of us have not even had to write a research paper at all. Whenever I began this class I viewed it as a waste of time. I thought that I would never learn anything new and I would just continue writing the boring old papers that I had to write all throughout high school, but I was very wrong. The first paper we wrote was a synthesis of three given authors, all scholars in their specific field. The author’s names were Swales, Gee, and Porter. They all had varying opinions on what a discourse community was to them and how they distinguish one fro...
The classes first major writing assignment was simple for the most part in which we were given a clear cut path on what to do. The objective was to analyze an article from a book and explain to the audience of what it was about. I chose the article “Land Of The Giants” by Alex Tizon because the story resonated with me because i am also an immigrant like Alex and many of his experiences i went through as well. The only minor trouble that was presented was the word count and personally i am someone who likes to get straight to the point but with this essay i had to expand and explain my perception of the article.
Creating monuments to memorialize the history of the United States should be heavily evaluated before action is made, for the impact on the country’s people is often greater than predicted. History is remembered and glorified through the creations of monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial as described by Kirk Savage. Therefore, it needs to be taken into consideration that the people and events chosen to be memorialized contribute to the perspective we have on the morality of these figures and their actions and once these monuments are created, our identity as a nation will consequently be affected depending on the construction of the monument. Evidently, these significances are oftentimes neglected when making said decisions.
Ultimately this assignment was beneficial to my perspective on class issues. It exposed me to multitudes of informational sources ranging from mainstream to alternative. It was also interesting to see the ways in which issues are portrayed differently, and as I mentioned other the lack of blaming the system is extremely interesting. The various sources opened my eyes to the reality of media impact and control over our lives and opinions. It is difficult to see beyond the obvious appeal of corporations such as Wal-Mart, but this should be apparent to me after all these years of sociology. I think this assignment really helped me to think outside the box, and really analyze who has control; it isn’t me or you. That’s for sure.
Section 1: What is your topic, and why is it important to study this topic?
I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the “Common Sense” textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the “Subjects and Strategies” textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past semester, I have encountered many difficulties when trying to write these essays, but through the use of the textbooks, the aide of the instructor, and once I was able to classify the different types of essays and styles, I found them possible to overcome.
Look for the previous five years researches. Talk to your teachers , seniors , friends for suggestions and scopes on the topic you are planning to work. Don’t start asking for suggestion to hear topics from them. Know your self, learn your choices and interests. The greatest discovery you can make during your thesis is finding your choices, your personality , your area of expertise and your creativity.
Furthermore, I have acquired a set of personal and professional gains as a result of completing the thesis that includes the development of a critical mindset, improvement of my writing and time management skills and enhancement of the level of my
