Incoming college students and upperclassmen college students really have a difference in food habits, some good and some bad. Incoming college students tend to be a little healthier before attending college then after attending college. On the other hand, upperclassmen college students may not be as healthy as an incoming college student. Most incoming college students tend to have a balanced diet; however, upperclassmen college students tend to have bad eating habits and gain weight. Incoming college students tend to have a balanced diet. One reason could be because they have certain times they would eat (breakfast, lunch, dinner); another reason could be because they are a lot healthier, exercise daily or are more active. Some bad habits may include dependence on coffee, skipping meals, and eating junk food instead of proper meals. Upperclassmen depend on coffee because they feel like they need coffee to keep them awake for early morning classes, but consuming four to seven cups of coffee a day is too much and can be really harmful to your body. They often skip meals and eat junk food instead of proper meals as well. Skipping meals could cause you to run low on nutrients, or have other health concerns. Also, your risk for some diseases may increase. For example, if you constantly skip breakfast, it is not healthy for your body and you may be in for a lot of trouble. In the same way, eating junk instead of proper meals can leave you feeling terrible or even make you sick. It could also give your problems in the future with your health. Upperclassmen college students who eat junk food as a regular basis consume more fat, carbohydrates, and processed sugar then most incoming college students. However, incoming college students probably do not depend on coffee as much because their parents are still involved. They are most likely getting advice about eating better from their parents as well. Likewise when incoming college students are at home, skipping meals and eating a lot of junk food in place of proper meals mostly does not happen because their kitchen is so
