The concept of inclusion in an educational setting is complex and continually changing. Ashman (2015) defines inclusion in education as providing every student with the opportunity to be fully accepted and completely engaged in all classroom activities. This means that every student is fully involved in all educational activities not just physically existing in the classroom. (Cologon, 2013) Inclusion in education means that alterations and adjustments are to be made to activities in order to ensure that all students have the opportunity to take part. Inclusion is a policy. Within Australia there are many broad national policies relating to inclusion in education. (Forman, & Arthur-Kelly,2017) These policies state that schooling should be ‘socially just’ and free of any type of discrimination towards students. (The Adelaide Declaration,2006) Inclusion in education is a philosophy that is centered on values that target that participation of all students. It is an attitude that all students have the right to be active in classroom activities no matter their capabilities. Inclusion is a right for children. All children have the right to feel as though they belong and are valued. Students should feel like a valued part of the classroom that has equal opportunities to take part in activities and contribute.
