Importance of Organizational Behavior Organizational Behavior The environment of business is always changing. With increases in workload and responsibilities, managers have found that their importance in the work environment has also increased. In order to help managers and supervisors learn more about the complexity of the new workforce many different areas of study have been developed. One area of study that has increased in importance over the years is the study of organizational behavior. Organizational behavior studies these attitudes and behaviors of workers today and tries to determine the best ways too effectively manage and change them. Organizational behavior also studies how organizations can be more effective and how events in the external environments affect organizations. Learning about organizational behavior in today's business environment will help managers develop a better work related understanding of themselves and their subordinates. This understanding can help future managers obtain a successful career in the business world. The most frequent problem that managers face is often described as "people" problems (Robbins 1). Since the job of a manager requires working with and through other people the development of good "people skills" become a valuable and essential asset. Organizational behavior helps to refine these "people skills" and make managers more effective to their supervisors and subordinates alike. One are of concern in organizational behavior deals with employee job satisfaction, which is an attitude. The reason managers should be concerned with employee job satisfaction are based on three areas of thought. First, there is a definite link between satisfaction and worker productivity. A happy worker is willing to work harder and for the company. Second, satisfaction appears to be negatively related to absenteeism and turnover rate. A worker that is happy with their job is more likely to show up at all scheduled times. Finally, it can be agreed that managers have a humanistic responsibility to provide their employees with jobs that are challenging, intrinsically rewarding and satisfying (Robbins 2). “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.” George Santayana stated what happens if we do not learn from our past. After the Civil War the United States wanted to build itself back up. The nation was in rubble because half of the country was fighting the other. That left it in a sad and fallen state. The issue of slavery was a long debated topic. They thought they could get over this and start anew. Reconstruction means the actions or process of rebuilding what has been damaged or destroyed. Did the North or the South kill Reconstruction? That issue is still up for debate. In my opinion, the South killed Reconstruction and stopped it dead in its tracks. The South did not respect the African American’s right to vote and would terrorize

Organizational behavior is dependent upon many variables. It incorporates many areas of study such as psychology, sociology and anthropology. These disciplines are important in trying to manage new and existing challenges in the workplace. Two examples of current workplace challenges are workplace diversity and the constant struggle to balance work life and home life.
There are various challenges faced and even more opportunities for organizational behavior to assist workers in improving the workplace as a whole, people skills, productivity, and customer service. Understanding and taking time to learn and educate one’s self is how attitudes develop and affect behavior is a key component to organizational Behavior. One of the main courses of this semester was to learn various organizational behaviors that are conducted in real business environment. By learning this course, we could understand our future colleagues and ourselves better. Throughout the semester, every week Ashley Hughes gave us an interesting lecture about different topics of oranisational behaviors. Along with the weekly lectures we also had a group presentation that gave us the opportunity to apply the lessons and techniques learnt in our professional and personal lives.During the course of this semester, Organizational Behavior has highlighted numerous topics, which concentrated on investigating the impact that individuals, groups and structures have on behavior within an organization and how their behaviour affect the performance of the organizations for the purpose of applying such technique towards improving an individual’s or an organization's working effectiveness (Jontymagicman, 2012). In this reflection paper, I will discuss the essential areas of organizational behavior: the influence of motivation, managing change and individual learning at an organization.
