Our society is evolving at a fast pace. We require more skills, knowledge and creativity more than ever before. Those who are incapable of change will be left behind and organisations will be forced to replace them with people that are more receptive to creative and innovative thinking. It is not organisations that adapt to change; rather it is the people within organisations who are required to change. Therefore, it is not surprising that a number of studies and reports have identified creative thinking and creative problem solving as fundamental workplace skills. (Kaufman, Sternberg 2010).
In the event industry, the planner is not just creating an event, they are creating an experience.
For most associations, events represent a major revenue stream that can be significantly impacted by downturns in the economy and
cost cutting in members’ organisations. There are, fortunately, ways to continue to offer top-quality events without raising registration fees or expanding event budgets. (Donaldson and Faucher, 2013)

Carnival’s strategy focused on the "Fun Ship" concept, beginning with the Mardi Gras, which targeted people of all ages. In recent years the driving force behind why a person needs to take a vacation has changed. Today vacationers look to get away from everyday stress, and opt for a stress-relieving cruise.
The first of the two careers to be analysed is an event manager, sometimes also called event organisers or event planners. Prospects UK (2012) describes event managers as being the ones responsible for event production from its conception, right through to its completion. This can include the initial planning and organisation of the event, the development of a management plan to assist in the preparation (Gascoyne Development Commission, n.d.), and the coordination of all aspects of the event on the day its being held (Prospects UK 2012). This career was chosen as I feel like I would enjoy the creative aspects of planning my own unique, memorable and enjoyable events.
The United States economy is an ever-changing and dynamic system. It is a structure that is made up of people who make critical financial decisions every hour of every day. Every organization, from Wall Street giants to the guy selling hot dogs on the street, is effected by the movements of the overall economy. These economic movements, or trends, can push sales for some, or put others out of business. Though they are intangible, these forces can still be measured, studied, and presented in the form of economic indicators. They can take the form of anything from the productivity of the overall economy, to the supply of money in it. This paper will review the economic indicators Consumer Sentiment Index and the Unemployment Rate and see how they affect theme park giant, Six Flags.
A company's budget serves as a guideline in planning and committing costs in order to meet tactical and strategic goals. Tactical goals such as providing budgetary costs for daily operations, and strategic objectives that include R&D, production, marketing, and distribution are all part of the budgeting process. Serving as a guideline rather than being set in stone, the budget is a snapshot of manager's "best thinking at the time it is prepared." (Marshall, 2003, p.496) The budget is a method in which to reign-in discretionary spending, and will likely show variances between what costs have been anticipated and what costs are actually incurred.
Customers seek event planners to assist in some aspect of an event, whether that event is celebration, business conference, promotion or rallies, or commemorations. Often individuals find that they lack the expertise and the time to plan events themselves. Most people who employ event planners for these types of parties are in the middle- to upper-income levels and have some spare income but no spare time. While the nature or reason for events will vary, there is basic framework that with a little customizing, will match the needs of each customer. ABC Events will focus on celebration of family events. I believe that all of the budget categories are extremely important to the organization. First, I believe it would be best to start with the people because grooming someone’s skills and learning to benefit from someone’s talents may take a while. Additionally, we want the clients of our group to be the main focus and it is important for the community to change their mind about passing these wonderful people over. Supplies will always be important because no one can get through a meeting without pens or paper. Space will be vital because there must be a place to meet for our organization’s development. Later on I can see things like equipment and miscellaneous
After researching the impacts events have on regional development I have come to agree with the statement ‘The events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional development’. The significance of this thesis is to critically discuss and demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the events industry and regional development while also providing an understanding of the history of events and the increasing significance of the event industry in contemporary society. Real life examples from around the world are used to recognize and justify the event industry as part of the tourism sector and explore specific implications to event management. Various sectors of the events industry are identified and discussed to support the theoretical discussion on how the events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional development.
The job of an event planner is much more than hanging up streamers, laying table clothes down and checking the quality of the lights. Event planning requires tedious work and strenuous planning. Also called meeting and convention planners, they do everything involved with making sure these events go as anticipated. This includes, working with the client to choose a fabulous and affordable location, hiring quality caterers, selecting perfect entertainment, and even arranging lodging and transportation for attendees who are visiting from afar (McKay). The goal of an event planner is to make sure the event runs very much as anticipated, which includes multiple plans to combat what-if scenario, because no event will ever run exactly as planned.
