MOSQUE IN MALAYSIA

2.1 Introduction

The Mosque is the symbol of the great of Islamic. The development of the mosque was grown base of adifferent culture and country, but still have a same function and goals. The demise of development of the mosque was started during Prophet Muhammad (peace upon to him) through to four main Islam dynasties. There are included Ummayad dynasties, Abbasid dynasties, Fatimid dynasties, Safavids dynasties and Ottoman dynasties. In this chapter, the researcher will explain the development, function, component and facilities of Mosque among the Muslim.
In Malaysia, the management of activity and maintenance of mosques was organized by the religious council of every state. For example, Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council. Each religious council is responsible with the all activities done by the members of the mosque (qariah).

2.2 Definition of Mosque

The word mosque was taken from the Arabic language masjid or jami’. Masjid means a ‘place of prostration’ or ‘house’ or open area of prayer in Islam. The word mosque refers to old French term mosqueé, old Italian term moschea and old Spanish term mezquita. Although there have different common name, but the function of the mosque still same, a Muslim place for worship. However, it should be note that the word of ‘masdjid’ it also be used generally in Arabic literature to refer to any place of workship in any religion (Rasdi M. T., 1998).

According to Mohamad Tajuddin (1998), the word mosque, as understood in the present architectural terminology, is a building used by Muslims for the performance of prayer. Maintenance of the mosque and the area
(1) The Council shall ensure that all mosques in are is in the proper state of repair and that his constituents are maintained in a proper state of cleanliness.
(2) The Council may raise and use, or authorize the raising and use, special funds for the purpose of any repairs and maintenance, or can pay the cost of repairs and maintenance from the treasury.
(3) There is no material change to the structure of the mosque can be made without the written permission of the Council.
(4) The Council may direct a parish committee to maintain the mosque under its responsibility in a proper condition.
