Technology in the Workplace We Team 48 have decided to choose the title ‘Technology in the Workplace’. There are many definitions for the term ‘Technology’, however it can simply be narrowed down to a simple definition. Technology is the branch of knowledge dealing with engineering or applied sciences, using machinery and devices developed from scientific knowledge used in industry. Technology in the workplace is very important as it allows businesses to expand quickly and efficiently as well as improving their goods and services. Business technology including social networking, video conferencing, blogs and instant messaging has removed boundaries in the workplace and assisted business expansion. Due to technology, people can be sent emails and relevant information by email or text message almost instantaneously via their phones rather than being sent information in the post or by ear. The use of computers allows any errors to be corrected instantly with the assistance of technology. In the past any scripts would have been proof read multiple times to fix any faults, which would have taken a lot of time. (Scott, 2014) Technology in the workplace aims to make everyday life and communicating easier for businessmen, but this can also have its own implications. Problems often arise when there is a network failure, and communication becomes almost impossible which then disrupts the quality and quantity of the work that will get done. Network failures can disrupt worldwide communication such as international video calls or group chats, and even sending emails. This can delay the working process and cause a delay in any deadlines made. Technology is causing a lack of communication between employees in the workplace. It also makes it harder for people to deal with conflict as it is harder for someone to express their genuine feelings via email or text message rather than face to …show more content…

These machines are computerised requiring only a minimum amount of human supervision. The increased output over a shorter period of time has led to a reduction in working hours for people in the workforce. (Enright&Flynn, 2010) With the accessibility of technology in the workforce, it means that’s there is fewer workers needed and the use of electronic communication means that there will be less social interaction that takes place at the workforce. It is required that the workers who are involved in the supervision of the technology used are provided with the skills to keep the machinery operating
