In a work environment, different individuals work together for the care of a patient. The inter disciplinary team must show teamwork. Studies show that when a group of professionals work as a team, better patient quality of care and satisfaction can be achieved. (Grumbach. K., & Bodenheimer, T. 2004). Unfortunately, there are still some barriers that exists when it comes to teamwork and inter professional care and relationships. One of the challenges would be, working together with people of different personalities and title. It is imperative that an understanding of inter professional collaboration and teamwork be understood. In order, to create interdependencies between the different aspects of the healthcare team. A team should have clinical and administrative systems, proper division of labor, proper training and most important of all is communication.

Teamwork is an important part of a healthcare team. In order to achieve it, the clinical team in this situation should be able to work with each other. Teamwork also shows how well the performance of each part of the organizational team. (Welp, A., & Manser, T. 2016). Communication is a process of conferring information between individuals through use of speech, writing or various other means, and is critical to the success of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) (Higgs, McAllister & Sefton, 2012, p. 5; Rowlands & Callen, 2013; Sargeant, Loney & Murphy, 2008). An MDT must use multiple strategies to enhance communication and ensure their success (Doyle, 2008). An effective MDT generates opportunities that benefit healthcare, which is the reason for the recent dominance of inter-professional care in health practice (Simpson & Patton, 2012, p. 300; Rowlands & Callen, 2013). Many barriers prevent effective communication within inter-professional teams. Lack of communication within MDTs presents challenges to their success, leading to numerous consequences, including the failure of the MDT (London Deanery, 2012; Sargeant et al, 2008). Communication between professionals is the key factor underpinning the potential success or failure of inter-professional teams, the outcome of the functioning of MDTs will either benefit or impair care of patients.
The demands on health care providers to provide the best quality care for patients is increasing. With added responsibilities and demands on our health care workers, it is hard not become overwhelmed and forget the reason and purpose of our profession. The principle focus of this essay is to discuss the importance of inter-professional collaboration in delivering effective health care and what challenges and constraints exist. The integration of a case study will give an insight into inter-professional collaboration in practice.
Health care is an integrated, multifaceted discipline that relies on ‘teamwork between different types of health workers with different skills and training’ (Alperstein, 2009: 7) in order to provide the most comprehensive health care. In this essay I will discuss the meaning of comprehensive care and multi-professional teams. I will then look at my role and the role of two other professions in a multi-professional team, while using Barr’s competencies. Collaboration between nurses and other healthcare providers improves the quality of care, coordination, and communication between the team leading to increased patient safety. I believe that patients have right to make their own decision for their health. According to text book, future nurses will provide patient-centered care that customized and respects of patient’s needs, value and their preferences (Masters, 2017, p. 85). Patient centered care is involving everyone in hospital from housekeeper to president and patient’s family; they are actively involving in patient’s care as priority. That will bring positive outcome from patient’s care. Also provide adequate comfort care for patient at end of life care.
The teamwork is usually defined as the process of working together in a group to achieve a common goal. These days working in groups is inevitable. Whether it is a school assignment or working in a clinical settings, we have to work in groups to accomplish a task. We cannot expect to work in isolation all the times. (Stonehouse, 2011)
