Picking 9 Songs that could explain my first semester was really hard because this semester has been a like a roller coaster, so many ups and downs it 's been insane. My idea of what I thought college was going to be like vs. what college actually was like was way off. I can into school thinking it was going to be all fun with a side of school work. Which is the reason behind why I picked my first song “ I Love College”. This song is all about the going to college and living the party life and pretty much doing everything except school. The next song I picked was “Independent Woman” because during the first few weeks of school I was so excited to finally be independent, doing whatever I wanted and no longer having to live by my parents rules. …show more content…
If felt like I was drowning. One day I woke up and realized that I’m here for a reason and I’m not going to give up that easily, which is why I picked the song “Hero”. I finally was starting to realize why I was here and things were starting to become clear but I still needed help to get out of the funk I was in. I picked the song “ Hall Of Fame” because this song means that, whoever you are you can be anything you set your mind to. If anyone says you can 't, take that as a challenge to prove them wrong. This song represents the part in my semester that I realized I can’t just sit around and wait for someone to get me out of my funk I need to pick myself up and get out of it myself because I was meant to be here and I need to do whatever I could to succeed. The reason I picked the song “ Survivor” was because I survived the funk I was in and didn’t let it get to me. This song talks about surviving without a certain person but I’m looking at it in terms of me surviving that rough time of my semester and getting myself out of it because I am strong and I will make it through college. “Stronger( What Doesn’t Kill You)” was the next song I picked because at this point in the semester I realized that college isn’t going to be easy and I shouldn’t expect it to be easy because like the song says “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. I
The song I chose for this essay is “don’t blink” by Kenny Chesney. It reminds you of how fast you can get through something without even realizing it’s there. Like school, you remember all the years and how long they took to get over with. Now as a senior everything looks as if it flew by so fast and all the memories really make you sad. But you need to look on the positive side. There will always be more fun times and probably better memories. But you should always enjoy life as it is no matter the circumstances.
For my song, I chose Fifteen by Taylor Swift. This is a very touching song, it talks about freshman year of high school, finding your first love and then they use you and don't love you back. The overall mood of this song is remorse. The persona of Taylor is that of a new freshman. Taylor uses figurative language such as “your head spin around”, “gave everything she had”, “look before you fall”, “time can heal most anything”, “feeling like flying”, and “Feeling like there's nothing to figure out”. Taylor is comparing a first kiss to a spinning head, and flying to a first date. Her figurative language enhanced the song because it made you feel how the person felt. ** The overall message of Fifteen is “look before you leap”, or, in Taylor’s words,
For many of us, one of the most accurate and effective ways to express the feelings that really matter to us is through music. We don’t only grow to attached to songs that are catchy, but also those with lyrics that we can relate to. It is not uncommon to feel like sometimes, artists can convey the way we feel better than we could ourselves. The storybook-like lines you read at the start of this page are a collection of lyrics
My life was no walk in the park, as young as I was with so many responsibilities I will always be the person to take charge when it’s needed. Over the years I have begun to understand the meaning of perseverance. With so little to give I openly want to make the day before different from the present. With nothing but empty hands I was clueless on how to change the way I was laying out my life. Again, there was so many ways this man taught me to keep going. He told me that “Life will always kick you too your knees, but remember its all about getting back up and proving everyone wrong” I didn’t understand how I was supposed to get off my knees, Metaphorically you just stand up right? I was completely unaware of the fight I had ahead of me, and too this day im struggling to get off my knees. Over the years I learned to cope with the fact that things don’t change as fast as we want them too. I know understand that, The wisdom I learn from people isn’t just some old person saying nonsense. In the future its going to prove itself useful, by the time you realize you should have listened its after you know you made the same mistake they told you to
Some of the most influential things in my life have changed me so much and shaped me into the person I am today. If it wasn’t for my friends and family I wouldn't have nearly the amount of musical knowledge that I have now and I’m so grateful that I can be somewhat well versed in a topic that I am so passionate about. And when I get into the topic of my friends and family I always have the feeling that I am extremely lucky to have so many great people that care so much about me in my life, I always have someone to lean on when I’m going through a hard time, and I always feel like they support me in my choices to be in the BHS Drama Program. The BHS Drama program is something that I look forward to every day after school and honestly it gives me the motivation I need to go to school and get my work done. There are so many other things that I’m grateful for but if were not for these things than I would be a completely different person than I am now. I’ve made so many memories and shared so many experience with just these things alone, they take up almost all of my
Having a college degree in today’s world is very important because more companies and businesses are requiring that anyone they hire has at least a two-year college degree, which is also known as an Associate 's degree. High school graduates and other people who have had thoughts about going to college should do so because it is getting harder for just a high school graduate to get a job, this is a result of hiring companies and businesses don’t want anyone without a college degree. Having a college degree will open more opportunities for the future. By doing so they further their lives and create a future that they want.
Arguably one of the most crucial and impactful years of a person’s life are in college. A college student is expected to identify which type of career they would like to pursue and most importantly find who they really are. Although it is a difficult task, I believe a student is able to get on track achieve these expectations if they remain focused, have a passion for the career type they would like to pursue, and just be open to experiencing several different things. There is simply not enough time to fully understand what type of person you are and who you really are in 4 years. It could take a whole lifetime for someone to find who they are but in college we are expected to find this in most cases 4 years.
It is said that most people perceive post-secondary education to not be important as it actually is. College graduates have the advantage of being able to have a better chance of having a quality life (study.com). A girl named Savita Doke from Mumbai, India got her Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science by working hard. Despite the fact that Doke was extremely poor she still worked every night at her job in order to pay for her schooling. After she graduated from college she was able to get a well-paying job to support her family financially. Savita said her most important life goal was reached (DNAIndia, 2015). Although, Adam Ozimek believes people can get good paying jobs without having to go to college. Ozimek stated
“I Will Survive” sung by Gloria Gaynor was a song about overcoming a difficult situation or moving on from a difficult situation. Often time’s people believed it was a female liberation song about getting over a difficult love affair yet over time it has become an anthem for everyone. When I listen to the song I do feel empowered, it makes me feel like I can make it through any situation. The late 1970’s when the song came out was a turbulent
To reflect my eighth grade year I chose the song, Magic by Pilot. This song is about a man who is lying in bed in the morning listening to music that is running though his head, and then explaining how that particular moment is magic. And this song relates to my eighth grade experience in multiple ways, but I chose three reasons specifically: the repetitive lyrics, the upbeat nature of the song, and the overall meaning of the song.
As I walked into college I wasn’t sure what to expect. While I had seen what movies portray college to be I knew that realistically it isn’t like that. I was timid to see how I would get around and function in this whole new world. Through personal experience and through watching the mistakes of others I have gotten a good introduction to what my future years are going to look like. My classes were also a major key to having a successful first college semester, they taught me to be responsible and be on time.
Borrowing from Friedrich Nietzsche's statement, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger," Kelly Clarkson unleashes an up-tempo empowerment anthem for recovering from bad relationships. Everyone endures a bad breakup at some point in their life, and a pick me up song like "Stronger," written by Jorgen Elofsson, David Gamson, and Ali Tamposi helps listeners pick up the pieces of a broken heart and move on to bigger and better things. Breakups can be extremely difficult, and they can be amicable; no matter what, no one really wants to go through them. The loss of a relationship can bring on intense heartache and stress. After being down for some time, it takes trying to look for the positives of the loneliness, instead of sadness and grief. When the positives are found, the feelings of happiness will overcome.
Everyone faces challenges. Through these challenges we all need someone to help us overcome them. My song is called “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers. “Lean On Me” talks about friends and why we need them. This song represents my year because it’s all about overcoming challenges, becoming wise, and always being there for others in general.
Driving home after a long, difficult day, I turned on some music, searching for relief. The CD in the player consisted of all my favorite songs: “Pee Wee Long Way( Chasing)’,” “Lil Boosie (Long Journey),”Lil snupe “(Nobody),” and many others. My number one favorite song, “(Chasing),” was the first to play. Singing along to the lyrics, my mood was immediately better. This song reminded me of what was important in my life, my dreams and money. I then realized what these songs had in common; they all reflected my feelings on life: don’t give up on your dreams and don’t worry about every little thing life throws at you, keep chasing your dream until you reach the top.
Through the last 13 weeks I have learned about whom I am and what makes me who I am. I have made some great friends not only my age but also older and younger than me. I have realized many things about myself that I never would have realized if I wouldn’t have came here. College is a whole new experience that you could never imagine unless you are there. It is nothing like you read or even that you watch on TV. It is completely different and you learn a lot about yourself as a person.
