1 Introduction 1.1 Personal Confidence and Motivation in the Business World
One of the most commonly debated and researched fields in the business world is motivation. Why do people do what they do and how can we motivate others to do what we need them to do in the business place? If we understand how and why people are motivated, we can encourage them to be their best and do their best at work. The more that people are motivated to be successful and achieve the goals set for them, the more their confidence in their own abilities will grow as well, which can, in turn, make them even more motivated.
But you can also work on your own confidence and motivation in the workplace in order to achieve your goals and intentions. When people are confident and motivated at work, there are many positive factors that result in the workplace:

They seem to face life’s obstacles with a level of calm that is enviable. They get into action to respond to a problem before giving themselves time to dwell or worry too much. Confident people are more successful at work because they have a belief in their own abilities to the point that they feel comfortable handling whatever comes at them. Make a presentation to the board? No problem – the confident person plans and executes the presentation without allowing fear to stop them. When someone is confident, they:
• Focus on their strengths while managing their weaknesses
• Aren’t afraid to take risks
• Enjoy challenging themselves and setting high goals
• Seek out self-improvement opportunities
• Aren’t afraid to admit when they make a
This is a strong case of Maria Lugones’ notion of the arrogant perceiver. To perceive arrogantly is to perceive that a person is just for themselves and no one else at all. If you decide in your mind that you perceive someone as arrogant you have just completely handicapped that person into showing his/her other dimensions of their personality. In some scenarios many people have chosen sides before even seeing or interacting with that person. This type of assumption is called stereotyping. I believe stereotyping a person is a mirror image of how intelligent or ignorant a person is. With that being said everyone has done it to others or has been stereotyped against. I have fallen victim to this a...
Arrogance, also known as narcissism, is like a brand new car because an arrogant person is flamboyant and distinctive. Arrogance is a very widely known character trait in which many people can identify. Studies show that “1 in every 6 people is a narcissist” (Peterson, 2014, bullet 5). Many humans have encountered, know, or are a narcissistic human, but what does arrogance really mean? According to merriam-webster.com (2014), the definition of arrogance is, “an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing you are better, smarter,or more important than other people” (Def. 1). In the novels The Catcher in the Rye and Siddhartha, the main characters both possess the trait of arrogance, but both express the trait in different forms. The root causes for both characters arrogance are very unrelated, but both roots lead to the same ending. Two completely different characters from two separate books may seem hard to tie together, but through these two characters the definition of arrogance becomes gradually clearer and clearer.
An unfortunate development in the past few years is the social construct that the future generation is steadily becoming more selfish and vain. Likely originating from the countless “selfies,” or pictures of oneself, being taken by teenagers and young adults, adults of the last generation seem to be under the impression that the Millennials in line to take power will have more priorities meant to benefit the individual rather than the population as a whole. Thankfully, they are mistaken. Still, though, it is a problem that the line between self-confidence and narcissism has become so thin that we can no longer be one without the other. General impressions of the words have been passed down through the years, and unfortunately both have become so watered down that they seem basically the same. So what is the difference between confidence and narcissism?
Arrogance is the quality of belittling others and having a sense of superiority over others. This quality is a hero’s hamarita. In the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, the hamarita that Caesar possesses is the quality of arrogance. This leads to his demise (when the conspirators and Caesar are alone in the Capitol) because he is oblivious to the idea that others may be more superior then him.
Confidence is a crucial when it comes to your own beliefs. Being confident with your knowledge will lead to new ideas that relate to those of your peers. In addition, confidence will take away any doubt or hesitance. Doubt inhibits learning and often limits people with great ideas. I believe one must be willing to delve into any situation with an open mind and the humility to be able to make mistakes.
Often in my life I feel I have trouble finding the intangible line between confidence and arrogance. It's like trying to make a peanut butter sandwich: if you spread the peanut butter too thin, you have something not worth having, but if you spread it too thick, you know you will regret it. I value a lot of different things in life, and in my attempts at mastering them I have usually been successful. This success has produced a definite level of confidence in my own abilities, but too often I have suddenly felt the arrogance sticking to the roof of my mouth. This wouldn't be so bad but often times it makes it hard to smile.
In my life I have realized that the more educated I have become the more confidence I gain. My brother, however refuses to do his homework and it has created negative feelings about himself, which decreases his confidence. This contrast shows how important knowledge is in developing confidence. Some may argue that ownership cannot increase confidence, but that this is done by simply thinking better about yourself. Although, this is true the key to becoming more confident is by finding success. At the beginning of the year in my calculus class I was struggling and did not feel confident, however as I began to understand the concepts better my overall confidence increased. This demonstrates the idea that ownership of a skill increases the confidence of an individual. Ownership of a skill increasing confidence is also seen in the Olympics. In the olympics there are many athletes that are the best in the world and with their skill comes confidence. These athletes have confidence because they have ownership of their skill and they know they are the best. This shows that ownership is a key part to confidence and a person's
Motivation is an important concept which is critical for understanding of and improvement in organizational behaviour and performance. It is therefore important for the managers to understand motivation. It is an important tool which they can use to get more out of their employees and increase organizational performance. Motivation can be defined as the factors, both internal as well as external which arouse in individuals the desire and commitment for a job (Mele, 2005, p. 15). Organizational performance on the other hand refers to the degree to which the organizational objectives have been achieved.
Motivation is key in the workplace. It is developed from the collaboration of both conscious and unconscious principles such as the strength of desire or need, motivating force or reward estimation of the objective, and desires of the person and of his or her peers/co-workers. These elements are the reasons one has for carrying on a specific way. An illustration is an understudy that invests additional energy contemplating for a test since he or she needs a superior review in the class. The Inside and outside principles that animate want and vitality in individuals to be constantly intrigued and centered around their work, part or subject, or to try to achieve an objective.
Motivation is the reason or purpose behind action, or what causes one to act in a particular manner. Motivation can either be intrinsic or extrinsic in nature, yet it rests solely within the power of the individual actor to be motivated (or not) by intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. Motivation is an extremely important topic of discussion in the larger discourse on leadership. It is important because it provides the basis for human action, or inaction. Leaders must be able to understand what motivates their followers in a hope to use that knowledge to guide them to behave in a certain way that is beneficial for the organization. To do so, it behooves leaders to understand the basic concepts and theories of motivation that abound.
Everybody tries to be successful, yet not every person achieves this objective. There are those of us who comprehend that success comes from our individual conduct and there are those that decline to comprehend this idea. Conduct radically influences one's individual success and there are a few elements to call attention to when discussing this. Successful people realize that the establishment of individual and expert achievement lies in understanding yourself, understanding others, and understanding the effect of individual conduct on others.
Motivation is the force that transforms and uplifts people to be productive and perform in their jobs. Maximizing employee’s motivation is a necessary and vital to successfully accomplish the organization’s targets and objectives. However, this is a considerable challenge to any organizations managers, due to the complexity of motivation and the fact that, there is no ready made solution or an answer to what motivates people to work well (Mullins,2002).
Most of life's situations are learning experiences. People can learn what activities are right or wrong for them by experiences these emotions in different situations. These learning experiences can take place at home, school, the workplace, or anywhere else. The three major experiences that have given me confidence in my ability to learn have all taken place at Penn State University.
...he workplace. Individuals face many barriers and challenges along the way, however, the development of effective skills such as communication, self-reflection help overcome these. Individuals with positive attitudes are also more likely to succeed as shown through studies as they have greater power of resilience. Intrapersonal perception forms the foundations for success, but it is a better understanding of social interactions that combines with personal perceptions to achieve individual success.
If you think about success and confidence, you will feel strong and competent, and you will perform better at whatever you attempt. If you think about making mistakes and being embarrassed, you will perform poorly, no matter how good you really are.
