Do you now label him as a thug or just an arrogant asshole? It’s true many people would never give this guy another chance to try to clean up his name and would be perceived as arrogant no matter what he does after this interview. People are arrogant towards Allen Iverson because of the way he speaks in this interview. People can understand what he is trying to say, but they are being subjective to what they are hearing because he is not using correct English.
This is a strong case of Maria Lugones’ notion of the arrogant perceiver. To perceive arrogantly is to perceive that a person is just for themselves and no one else at all. If you decide in your mind that you perceive someone as arrogant you have just completely handicapped that person into showing his/her other dimensions of their personality. In some scenarios many people have chosen sides before even seeing or interacting with that person. This type of assumption is called stereotyping. It may take a long time for this to happen in the world but it is beginning to take effect as more and more women are getting in the professional fields in jobs that they may not normally work. Women are also being appreciated more by the men and they are being considered equal by receiving the same pay as a man. In the next five to ten year, I think that we will see this change in both men and women being the dominant race.

Personally, I think self-discipline as a character of elite athletes is more important than the attitude of “have fun”. In order to achieve the peak level of own potential, intense training and practice are necessary even to athletes who have excellent physical tools. The process of being excellence cannot be always enjoyable. For instance, Nash’s outstanding skills of shooting and dribbling are the results of hard-work. These techniques must be rehearsed and practiced intensively. Nash admitted that he did not have the excellent athletic ability among NBA players, but he spent more time for practice than most players in the league. Beyond the interview, I also heard that Nash followed a strict diet through his whole career to maintain the optimal level of body condition. It can be extremely difficult to take unsavory but healthy foods for a long period, and even most elite athletes only follow their athlete diet during the season. They'll just get disrespect in return and become a low status in their people’s hearts. In Sophocles tragic play Antigone, King Creon’s self importance and high level of arrogance caused many consequences in the drama such as death itself and miscalculations of choice making. The King of Thebes thinks of himself better than everyone because of his power of the throne. Thinking that the king rules alone and if one to ever disobey the King, they are to bare consequences.
In many ways today's society, even though women have come a long way, we still live in a patriarchal world. There are many examples of this in everyday life, whether it be that there aren't very many women CEO's or the mere fact that we've yet to have a woman president. No matter where you live, there is the presence of a male dominated world. It especially extends into the working fields. There are professions that are categorically 'women's' jobs like nursing, school teacher, or secretarial jobs. The rest of the professional world is mainly male dominated, i.e. engineering, CEO's of major companies, and Law Firms. Which brings us to the movie I picked to watch, Legally Blonde.
However, men are still being paid more than women in the same job, according to the U.S. Census Bureau the gap of male’s vs females in the workforce is much smaller where in 1970 there were approximately 30% of females compared to 60% of males. In 2010 there are now 52% male and 47% females. Also, some movies that have changed over the years are some fairytales like Sleeping Beauty, where the prince must save her and she relays on him, but in the newer move Frozen the sisters save each other and the Queen doesn’t need a King which shows how women can be independent. Even to this day there seems to be barriers which continue to slow down the opportunities for women. There seem to be many women who have occupied with teaching and nursing. Only 5% of the women's population seem to be interested in engineering and computing. The pay equity has dropped over the years causing men to earn more for the same amount of work and responsibility.
Many of the roles have remained the same, but now they frequently are carried out by members of either gender. Women have careers in engineering or sports; a growing number of men have full-time care of home, children, and the disabled. Both men and women have a variety of jobs in the workplace and positions in the hierarchy of management.
“The odds of a high school basketball player making it to the “next level” to play college basketball (DI, II, or III) is slim. In fact, only 3.4% of high school players go on to play college basketball. Taking it even further, only 1.2% of college basketball players go on to get drafted in the NBA” (Winters, 2016). There are two types of players in the game. There are the kids who play basketball because they are athletic, and all they are seeking to gain is the recognition and awards. They want to be known. Those players are self-centered, they do not play for the team, and generally don’t play because they love the game. These are the types of players who don’t usually go on to play at the next level. On the other hand, there are the players that absolutely dedicate their life to the game of basketball just because they love the game. That is what coaches are looking for in a player, and that is the kind of player I am striving to be.
Certainly, women at work today are not treated as equals with men, but there is an upward trend of progress being made. With pioneering and persistent women alongside lobbying women's groups, and forward thinking corporations, there is hope that one day gender won't matter at work.

To being raised in a not so kid friendly environment, skipping school, and not playing any sports for some time. Sexism is a major factor in the workforce.Today male and female have a hard time breaking into the opposite gender dominated fields. This has happened because of the media, it has showed us that male have certain “right” jobs, as well as female. Female still dominate traditional female professions like cosmetology jobs are 92.9 percent women working them(Wolfe). If a man were to get into cosmetology they would most likely be judged for having that job, because we stereotype that they can't have a feminine job. Women have a harder time getting into high level positions. “Women make up only 21 of the S&P’s 500 CEOs,” (Berman). This has happened because the media has set in place stereotypes that it is wrong for women to have high level positions. It is getting better, in 2013 women chief financial officers increased 35 percent at large U.S. companies from 2012 (Frier and Hymowitz). The job market for men and women is still unfair but it is starting to get equal.

Men are traditionally seen as being in the "supervisor" position in the home. They are the heads of the household, the breadwinners, and the women are behind the scenes, like the threads that hold everything together. The same can be said about the workplace. Men tend to hold administrative positions, while women usually have the positions that support the administrator. They are the secretaries and assistants that do the work for their male bosses and prepare things for them that later on only the administrator may receive credit for. In conclusion, although the roles of men and women have radically changed over the turn of the century, it is still inevitable to have various gender related occupational differences because the social and biological roles of women and men do not really change. The society still perceives women as the home makers and men as the earners, and this perception alone defines the differing roles of men and women in the labor market.
