The academic study of organisational behaviour is beneficial for managers and organisations
I am going to define organisational behaviour to gather an understanding of what it consists of. I shall then explain why organisational behaviour as a theory is studied by a variety of people such as theorists and practitioners. I’ve then at how the studies impact on the practicalities of the business environment and utilisation within management.
Individuals within an organisation must be motivated. Different individuals need more motivation than others. By Maslow’s very basic hierarchy of needs humans need food and shelter. Their perceptions, abilities and ethics and their motivations along with how they interact with one another or groups within the structure and their behaviour within a team. How the work flows are designed and how the organisation accomplishes this. Management expertise of things like leadership and decision making, the handling of conflicts, power struggles and politics within the organisation that can detract from the main focus of the organisation.
Mintzberg 's Organizational Types, Mintzberg theory is five types of organisational structures. He came up with five of the structures and the pros and cons each and the fundamentals of how they work. The first of the five being entrepreneurial, second machine organisation, third professional, fourth division and innovative. (Mintzberg, 1980)
The entrepreneurial organisation is a loosely structured one. This allows for a more innovative approach. This style is usually adopted by start-up companies. It tends to have a flatter structure.
