The school ended up opening up an after school program for students who were interested in art. I ended up joining the after school program and I would spend most time there drawing and creating stencils. At that time I was also experimenting my sexuality so I kissed a couple of girls during that year and I ended up being really attracted to girls. In the art class I attended after school I started working on a stencil of a girl with a mini skirt bending over with her thong showing and the caption said “Peek-A-Boo.” Part of me was still a rebellious teen that wanted to put my art all over the school to upset the principal. When I started working on the small details of the piece I got really creative with the technique. I spent most of my time working on my art and I was really proud of that work. The principal and my parents were upset with my work but I wasn’t. In that moment is where I learned how to do things for myself and not do everything the right way just to please everyone around me. I was proud of myself and I loved that piece and no one was going to make me feel otherwise. When I was 15 I was forced to go to a high school that had everything I hated. It was small had no art program and none of my friends where going there. When I was attending freshman year I would isolate myself and I would go straight home nothing would bring joy so I did my best to waste time. I would just do my homework and watch TV until I felt it was time to go to sleep. I went to school, did homework and watched tv for all of freshman and sophomore year. If I wasn’t watching TV I didn’t socialize with anyone and it was difficult to be part of a family conversation. At first it was a way to get my parents to think that the school they placed me was not helping in anyway but eventually I didn’t find joy in anything I did so all I did was
I was so ashamed of my physical appearance and nostalgic of my senior year of high school, that I isolated myself from the majority of the people I’d met. I started binge watching Netflix in my dorm room, making frequent trips to a nearby dermatologist and crying to my mom and friends from home about how I hated school and wanted to transfer ASAP. I was cold, lonely and ugly. I couldn’t wait for winter break so I could forget about my sucky dorm and lack of college friends for a while.
...society now classifies leisure as simply ‘free time.’ Time away from work or school, no matter how it is enjoyed, is more broadly defined as leisure today.
Students can benefit from recreation and apply these benefits to their daily lives. Also, the interview that I have done with Chgaoyu Chen shows me that recreation could be an indispensable of one’s life, and is an important contribution to one’s academic success. Additionally, I feel that students should have a good balance between their academic commitments and recreation, and they should make full use of recreation so that it can have positive impact on their
My own personal philosophy of leisure has been shaped by past and present activities I do for leisure and why I do them. To me, leisure is the sense of being free from external stressors that I face in my life such as school or work. The positive outcomes from partaking in leisure are generally overlooked and often underestimated. Leisure affects our emotions, our physical and mental health, and aids in the creation of relationships. In my own personal life, I have done and still participate in leisure as a way to sooth myself or unwind from the stress of school or work. The release of pent up emotions and energy for individuals helps their relationships with others and their overall health as well. When stress is released, an individual is
The purpose of therapeutic recreation is to enable all individuals to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful experiences in recreation and leisure. In this paper the definition of therapeutic recreation will be discussed as well as what should be included in the definition and what should be rejected. This definition will mainly focus on health and use the Health Promotion Model to further explain my choice to focus on health and well-being. I will also be discussing the importance of inclusion in therapeutic recreation for different learning styles in many environments, and the significance of diversity in the community and what we hope to achieve by being fully inclusive.
The problem of modern leisure has, throughout the years, been a well-discussed topic among many sociologists. Sociability, in this case, is one of the most universal forms of leisure that will be discussed in this essay. The theoretical framework for this discussion is provided by the sociological insights of Georg Simmel (1858-1918) as he argues that the “tumult of the metropolis” (cited in Frisby 1989, p80) creates inner barriers between people and suggests that “sociability” can surpass this problem. According to Frisby (1989), Simmel states that the city life has transformed the struggle with nature for livelihood into a struggle with other human beings for gain. This is further discussed as Frisby (1989) and Giulianotti (2005) describes how sociability can transcend this problem according to Simmel’s sociability theory.
The central distinctions between the different types of leisure activities Active - this is when an activity is more demanding (for example playing a sport walking) Passive - this is when an activity undertaken is not a physical activity (for example reading, listening to music) Home based leisure is when a leisure activity is undertaken at home and non home-based leisure is when an activity involves leaving the home e.g. going to the cinema. Each person carries things with them, whether it’s a purse, or a backpack, or a slim wallet slid into their pocket. They may not carry these physical things all of the time, but these staple items are with more than they’re not. The become a part of the person’s identity. They become emotional burdens for the person to bear.
Over the course of two and a half years from 9th grade I continued to do what I always did my whole life, sat next to friends whether they were distracting or not, played video games, went out with friends, played sports, went to my local gym, and not studying intensely for tests and quizzes as I had always done in the past and aced them with ease. My closest friends knew me for my phenomenal reputation for being an all A student, but within my first

This misconception based on ignorance of current tourism industry, could potentially be a dangerous for local economy and development. Outdoor recreation has been around for more than 80 centuries. Throughout the years, outdoor recreation has evolved in many different aspects. Outdoor recreation began as a tool for survival strategies, such as hunting and fishing. As the years have passed, people went on to hunt and fish as a form of recreation. As a population, we can concur that outdoor recreation has many positive attributes such as personal satisfaction and enjoyment, as well as negative aspects that could amount to the costly engagement in outdoor recreation activity.
I didn’t have that many close friends in high school. I always was just kind of there. I was no one important. Everyone seems to have his or her place in this world of high school and it seemed that my place was on the outside that I didn’t fit into this puzzle. I think that that experiences in high school pretty much defines much of my life. It definitely affects my writing. You are supposed to find security in high school, but those four years leave me feeling pretty empty and alone. I have very little self-esteem and am constantly feeling not good enough. These are the feelings that I have hid from the world. I can’t let people see the pain inside of me for fear that I will be even less accepted than I am now. I think a lot of my feelings of aloneness and semi-depression come from losing a few friends of mine who used to be really close to me. You learn to trust people, and when they leave and they are no longer there for you than their being in your life could cause more harm than good.

2006). To me recreation is having fun with people that makes you laugh and smile. Outdoor recreation, to me, means to remember the joy that nature brought me at five years old with friends and family exploring what Mother Nature provides us and feeling youthful again. Sometimes this would be exploring the countryside, seeing what humanity has not touched, and running around the fields at top speed. Finding a new path to take or just exploring somewhere new by hiking to a swimming hole, or even just walking around somewhere new and taking in all the details so you can recreate them in a drawing to share with people and to look back on years from now. During my experience simulation, I walked along paths in the forest by my house and took in every detail that nature provides. I would look at a fallen tree and remember being at my cottage climbing a falling tree and wanting to hang off it. I saw all the leaves changing colour and remembered cleaning up the grounds of my family farm and then wanting to jump into the colourful pile. My experience gave me memories of when I was younger and it allowed me
This was it. I was expelled from the school. My life was over. I didn’t care about my other friends who were with me; they all kind of disappeared away from me. All I was thinking of now was myself and the trouble I was in and predicting what will happen when will get home and tell this story to my parents.
