Values are very personal and something that many people hold close to their heart. The type of background and up bringing one has really helps shape how a person prioritizes their values. Everyone is different and everyone has a story as to why they share their values. A big difference between moral values and non moral values is that many times moral values are set within someone the minute they are capable of understanding what is right and what is wrong. When children are around the age of 2-3 parents place a firm foundation on that child 's moral values. Moral values are then continuously reenforced. As that child grows up they already hold strong feelings about these values. That is not to say these values can not change through out their …show more content…
Being dishonest may hurt the other person. For instance someone dealing with a dishonest person may begin to feel as if everyone is also being dishonest. With honesty comes trust. Being honest means that people can ask anything and they feel like they can confide in that answer. Honesty is a doorway. Honesty brings admiration. I feel like at work honesty has brought me to the level I am at now. People trusted me with greater responsibility because they knew I would do what is required in the fairest way fit. Being dishonest only makes other people feel unsure to ask. I like to be the person that people can come up and talk to freely and feel as if they truly learned or have taken something from that conversation. Personally I feel as if dishonesty only brings guilt and unwanted problems. Honesty ties into the second moral value I hold closely which is respect. With honesty comes respect. Being honest means that people respect not only the words but the person who the words come from. Respect is a moral value I hold closely because it was instilled in me as a child. In my culture, respect is highly admired. My parents always told me to respect anyone I came into contact …show more content…
Honesty is the value of mine I feel will be significant as I continue into the criminal justice system. One point we spoke in class is how in criminal justice, all we have is our word. One dishonest mistake and our credibility is lost. Honesty is significant because at the moment there is so much public distrust within the system. Law enforcement is under much scrutiny. A spark in justice has ignited. People are feeling as if they are being lied to. The black lives matter or all lives matter has created a division and has alienated the citizens from the system. My ultimate goal after graduation is to be a police officer. Being a minority and expressing your interest in being an officer creates some negativity. I 'm tired of getting on social media and seeing comments such as "all officers are murderers". It 's very discouraging. I 've seen and heard so much negativity in the past months. This is why I believe values such as honesty are very important. In order to have people believe in the criminal justice system again there needs to be honesty. Another point in class we made is that in the criminal justice field we hold people 's lives in the palm of our hands. Going to law enforcement I know there are constantly situations I will be faced with where I only have a few split seconds to rationally weigh out the situation. Honesty within the criminal justice system makes for a fair and credible system. Without honesty the system cannot gain respect. People will not confide
I believe that values are taught and learned at an early age. If the teaching is successful, as it was in my case, the student should hold true to the values that he or she was raised with. Everybody is raised with different values, whether the difference is religious, moral, or social, and they should all be respected by others. I will not change or alter my values because they are very important to both my family and me, and I firmly believe in them.
Which one is most important; our personal values or someone else's values? I think that my personal values are very important for me, and I should not be influenced by other unless I have the same feelings or beliefs. There is a huge difference between both stories; however, they have some common conflicts.
Everyone has their own personal values that the gain throughout their lives. Some of these values are passed down through the different generations of their family. Values can change over time and some people learn more values as they grow up. I personally have gained a range of different values in the past eighteen years of my life. My own values include: respect, honesty, empathy and trust. I gained the value of respect through my parents as I was always told to show respect to others and they would then show me respect back. When I was really young I had to respect other people’s things and their feelings. Through my parents I was brought up to believe that it is always better to be honest and tell the truth about everything. I feel that
Values are a core set of beliefs and principles by one or many. A number of factors contribute to the development of values. These include membership in a community or culture, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Values determine what is important in decision-making. Ethics involve conduct, the ability to determine right and wrong. All organizations face ethical dilemmas. Organizations develop corporate social responsibility in reaction to the values and expectations of society. Corporate social responsibility initiatives aim to protect public health, safety...
Cross-culturally there are many difference between moral values. The extremes of these moral differences include cannibalism or incest which were normal in some cultures, closer to home there are value differences between liberals and conservatives or between the South and the West, any two cultures will have different ideas of moral values. There are three potential sources to base moral values on, faith, emotion, or reason. Individuals all have different ideas about what is moral and they conflict with one another. If morals were based solely reason everyone would eventually reach the same moral ground. If they could be based only on reason, it would mean universal morals. However, based on how we determine our morals now, where
Without honesty, a person breaks down. It might take time but at the end, they fail. Being an honest person means someone who does not lie, trustable, always think everything in positive ways, always focused on good deeds for a better future. Honesty is a noble virtue that everyone appreciates. No one likes an dishonest person. No one trusts them and they feel lonely. It is valued on many ethnic and religious cultures too. Being an honest person would help me reach my goal. I want people to like me for me and for my honesty. In order to be successful in life, its is important to follow the light of honesty. I have always been and honest and i have personally experienced that, no one accuses me of me anything. I have had problems before but people who know me, know it I am honest and I always want to be like that if I want to be a successful person. I don't want to choose dishonesty for profit and later suffer for it. Everyone respects an honest man and respect is what I
I do not know of anyone who wants to be known as Pinocchio, the wooden boy who lies and in a result, makes his nose grow bigger. As an old proverb says, honesty is the best policy. I agree with being honest at all times. First, telling the truth to me, is always the right thing. When I catch someone in a lie, I just think to myself, what has come up of this world? A person’s truths and lies prove who that person is, and what that person is capable of. Second, people can earn a great deal of respect and trust from telling the truth. Now, people trust their “gut feeling”, but someone’s “gut feeling” should always be truthful. Respect is something that is earned, and at sometimes, given to people who do the things that they are supposed to do for themselves and for others. Last, most people were taught to tell the truth at a very young age. A truth is
Beginning your career with honesty and integrity makes for a great team building skill and can help in create great relationships with your superiors and co workers. Honesty and integrity are two major core Catholic and humanist values that many students in modern times seem to lack. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, honesty is defined as "the quality of being fair and truthful. " Honesty plays a huge role in our society and daily lives. “Different cultures have different moral codes”, James Rachels discusses in his article Why Morality Is Not Relative? (Rachels, p. 160). A moral code is a set of rules that is considered to be the right behavior that may be accepted by a group of individuals within a society. Each culture tends to have their own individual standards and moral codes. Moral codes are guidelines laid out by a cultures ancestors. Standards are guidelines set forth by the individual themselves. Standards and morals don’t always have to be the same, but there are instances where they are. The moral codes claim what is “right” and what is “wrong”. Moral codes outline what behaviors individuals are supposed to make. These codes are basically laws, but specifically
Ethics are moral principles or values that govern the conduct of an individual or a group. It is not a burden to bear, but a prudent and effective guide which furthers life and success. Ethics are important not only in business but in academics and society as well because it is an essential part of the foundation on which a civilized society is built.
To be honest is to be believed in to create a bond that will grow and prosper. To be dishonest is to be led astray to harm others to where they might get in trouble, injured, or even worse death and all bonds, present or future, will be no longer. Honesty is a means to build one’s trust. In the end, honesty can help a person go a long way, while dishonesty will lead to nowhere as stated by some of the Proverbs.
As society as a whole we are most often times given a set of rules to follow. These rules or laws act as a pathway to help us choose between right and wrong. If someone were to choose the wrong path, there can be severe consequences. In the United States it is common to see jail time when we go against the set moral code. In other countries we may see forced labor or find people put to death for their actions. Each society sets it’s own rules and moral standards. But there is much more to being a moral person than following the laws of a society. As defined by Alan Wolfe, moral freedom means “individuals should determine for themselves what it means to lead a good and virtuous life” (Wolfe, 2001). This means that even though we are given a
Honesty is a characteristic that everyone should possess. However, being honest is a difficult task for many people. Living honestly means allowing a person’s true self to be exposed to others. Honesty is considered owning up to one’s wrongdoings and not lying, cheating, or stealing. Being honest is a trait that many people believe is obsolete. Even though every person interprets honesty differently, it all stems back to telling the truth. Being honest allows a person to earn respect from their peers. Honesty is allowing oneself to be completely exposed by being truthful.
When considering morality, worthy to note first is that similar to Christian ethics, morality also embodies a specifically Christian distinction. Studying a master theologian such as St. Thomas Aquinas and gathering modern perspectives from James Keenan, S. J. and David Cloutier serve to build a foundation of the high goal of Christian morality. Morality is a primary goal of the faith community, because it is the vehicle for reaching human fulfillment and happiness. Therefore, great value can be placed on foundations of Christian morality such as the breakdown of law from Aquinas, the cultivation of virtues, the role of conscience in achieving morality, and the subject of sin described by Keenan.
