TMSA High School Writing Contest Keeping track of time is a very important but common skill among people. Though it is common, it is not always easy to do, or the means to do it are unavailable. Over the years I have learned to keep track of time in three different ways, sight, my body, and various timekeeping devices. Two of my three ways are not as accurate, but in times where total accuracy is not as important they are very effective and efficient. Because I use sight the most and I value it the most I am going to begin with that. Sight is a very important way of keeping track of time because with my eyes then I can see how things change so then I can see how things progress gradually and I can observe them all. For example, I can watch the sun go up and down and then I know that one day has elapsed. The observations that I make through sight are the ways that I can see that time is moving forward and I can keep track of it. It is just not the sun that I can watch …show more content…
Everyday I use different devices to keep them: the clock on my phones, tablet, microwave, laptop, televisions, cars, and the various walls and digital clocks that I see throughout my day. Time tracking in all its actual complexity has been made into a mundane everyday feat, due to the fact that around a couple hundred years prior, having the ability to keep track of time was something more reserved for scholars and scientist, now anyone can easily tell you the time if they have the proper equipment on hand. This makes me out to be a follower in the monotonous practice of using traditional devices to keep track of my time. But it is the best way so this also shows that I am not only intelligent enough to use an in today's turn
Looking through the spectacles of time reflects the changes in our lifestyle and culture through the years and how it has made us into the people that we are today. Every day we are stepping into a footstep that is bigger than our own, living lives that have been created and inspired by our ancestors that have come before us.
Throughout the day we are constantly checking the time, preparing for the upcoming months, and keeping track of the year. Clocks tell us the time we use as a measurement. It’s how we keep track of those important months and events, such as holidays and birthdays. Although there are many investigations and research being done on the nature of time, many unresolved issues remain.
There are few methods listed in the module that helps me to manage my time effectively.
The importance of being on time in the military (or anywhere at all), is simply a symptom of discipline, which was instilled in new enlisted soldiers during basic training. Being on time shows reliability. We have to show discipline, responsibility, show care through following military rules and regulations. Being on time not only pertains to accountability, but shows respect to our fellow soldiers, our unit, command and organization as a whole. Being on time also will avoid any disciplinary actions that may hinder you from reaching your goals. Being on time may have a greater importance and effect, than we may know. Being on time enables us to be able to trust and rely on each other in life and death situations. Last but not least, it shows that we will be able and ready to capitalize on our capabilities to complete our missions. It is not acceptable to be late (except when involving safety limitations), because missions and operations are interlocking pieces that must function together as a whole in order for it to work in a timely manner. All successful and respective people all have one common attribute, and this is knowing and exhibiting the importance of being on time.
Before the clock had become a more prominent device in society, time was measured in a multitude of ways, most commonly in relation to processes of the “working day”. Before a clock was used to convey us the time, the crowing of a rooster could indicate the beginning and ending of a day and the sundial could show the time of the day in accordance with the position of the sun. The notion of ...
In ancient Roman times, a majority of the Romans used sundials. Sundials relied on the sun to work and so that people can use them to actually get the accurate time. But when night came, the time would not be correct at all. Cassius replied to Brutus when he asked what the time was and said it was three. “The sun continued to be the primary source of time measurement throughout the Classical period...
It rushes by before you notice; it sneaks up behind you without uttering a word. Past, present, future. Rahel once believed that whatever number she wrote on her toy watch would be true; “Rahel’s toy wristwatch had the time painted on it. Ten to two. One of her ambitions was to own a watch on which she could change the time whenever she wanted to (which according to her was what Time was meant for in the first place)” (37). Roy wrote The God of Small Things in a nonlinear fashion; time jumps around and goes from the perspective of Rahel as a 7-year-old to 20 years later in a matter of a sentence. Likewise, time changes form, there isn’t really a past, present, and future, it’s all within the life of the twins, it flows together as waves, as ripples, the same concept just in different appearances.
In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
The time study equipment available for use today has progressed with the technological advances made in the last fifty years. However, the stopwatch remains the most widely recognized symbol in the field of time studies. Thomas proclaims that “The work measurement symbol remains the stopwatch, but today’s sophisticated tools are a far cry from that. Data can be gathered with a host of automated data collection equipment” (Thomas, 2006, p. 36). While it is true that automated data collection tools are readily available today, they are more efficiently used in other time measurement forms like work standards and predetermined times. The stopwatch is still the most widely used time measurement tool that is used on the production floor when conducting actual time studies. The stop watches of today will generally come in two different types, the traditional mechanical decimal minute watch (See Figure 1.1) and the more user friendly electronic stopwatch (See Figure 1.2). The decimal minute watch typically will have a dial divided into 100 equal divisions with each representing 0.01 minutes. The watch hand will make one complete revolution every minute. The smaller dial on the typical decimal minute watch will be divided into 30 equal spaces, each of these divisions will represent one minute, and every complete rotation of the smaller dial will represent 30 minutes. The watch is controlled by the ...
Keeps you organised: Order is needed to effectively manage time. Knowing what and how to prioritise certain things makes a difference otherwise things can easily spiral out of control and the essence of time management is lost.
There are many different parts to time management, such as procrastination, strategy, organization, expectations and being prepared. All of them contribute equally in many ways. All of the things that we have spoken about in this paper are highly recommended. The best thing to do when it comes to time management is to set a strategy, become organized and do your best to avoid procrastination. When you manage your time make sure you include the following; studying, sleeping, eating, relaxing and other necessary things. No matter what our circumstances are, we can all use some time management skills in our lives.
A time capsule is an object that people put representations of how life was during that particular time period and is left for the discovery for the people in the future. It can be anything from a vault that is sealed underground to anything as little as small shoe box in an attic. A time capsule could hold anything inside as well. Something as simple as a newspaper could be inside of a time capsule.
(Claessens, Brigitte J.C.2004). adds that time “cannot be managed, because time is an invariable factor. Only the way a person deals with time can be”. Nevertheless, time management has become increasingly essential to businesses and organizations. This is especially true over the last two decades, as a result of expanding global competition and increased demands for the immediate availability of products and services. Given the increased pace of everyday life, people increasingly need to be more organized. Efficient time management practices support business students in acquiring key skills that will assist them both in their educatio...
