As we approach the Thanksgiving, and shortly after, Christmas, my one concern always leans towards food. While it is traditional to eat loads of turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, pies, stuffing, you name it, I can’t help but think about all the other women, men and children who have food restrictions and how much these comfort foods can wreak havoc on their bodies, myself included.
Whether your food restriction is an intolerance, a mild allergy, or even a choice of lifestyle, many of us face certain items that don’t sit well or simply cannot be consumed. Let me first share that I have no known allergies, but have chosen to eat a specific way because of how those certain foods make me feel. *This article is not for those with severe food allergies, that is something I will not touch on and those food items should be very, very closely made and monitored.* I know tons of moms who struggle with their children having many food/digestive problems and that can be a huge struggle for everyday life, much less worrying about the holidays, where we aren’t always in charge of the cooking. It was extremely difficult, almost every dish had some form of dairy in it, especially the desserts, and who doesn’t like to eat dessert on Thanksgiving? I wasn’t prepared, I hadn’t researched ahead of time or made anything special for myself. I was literally able to eat three items; turkey, cranberry sauce and green beans. Yes, it helped my waistline, but who really worries much about their waistline on Thanksgiving? It’s called a feast, not a fast and we want to be able to indulge in food as much or as little as we

Nutritionism and Today’s Diet Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Pollan’s main point is introducing science into our food system has had more of a negative impact than a positive one, we should go back to eating more of a traditional diet. I believe food science has given us
Michael Pollan makes arguments concerning the eating habits of the average American. Pollan suggests, in spite of our cultural norms, we should simply “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants.”

I preferred homemade most of the time. In the past 3 or 4 years, I tried a lot of different foods and like to stick with veggie food with chicken. I can’t eat pork and beef because every time I think about trying it makes me sick. No offense but everyone is different. I discussed it at home and my mother told me that I was very sensitive as compared to my brother. However, your baby may be sensitive to other foods in your diet and these might cause an upset stomach. These foods include dairy products (cheese, milk, yogurt, cream, pudding, and other milk products), peanuts, corn wheat, eggs and fish. There is no need to avoid all these nutritious foods if you suspect your baby has food sensitivity. Instead, try to identify which particular food may be the culprit and avoid eating it for a week, then observe what happens. It may take more than a week before your body is cleared of the food eaten, but your baby may improve within days.

Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
There is no surprise that food is important in all aspects of our lives—it is shared amongst families, celebrated as a major part of our culture, and crucial to our daily routine that keeps us fit, healthy, and active. Today’s western culture glorifies a skewed perspective on how food is supposed to fit into our lives. Somehow this perception has led us to believe we no longer have the time or money it takes to prepare a wholesome, healthy meal that is shared at the dinner table with family. Instead, we are trained to want a meal that is fast, cheap, and easy. This meal is usually highly processed and filled with sugars and fats. This has led us to a problem of epidemic proportions characterized by the rapid increase in obesity and diabetes.
Evaluate the foods you eat: - people who do this diet have to keep paying attention to the quality of the carbohydrates, proteins and fats you eat daily. Avoid eating refined starches, sugars and saturated fats from fatty red meats and full-fat dairy. You can eat high-fiber fruits, whole grains, legumes and meats such as lean meat, poultry, sea food and low-fat dairy products instead of eating fat containing foods. You also have to stick with the good unsaturated fats oil found in olive oil and canola oil.
On my journey of weight loss, I am learning what foods are considered harmful and the effects eating them has on the body. In order to improve the health of myself and my family I must focus on the food I should include in my daily meals rather than foods I should avoid.
As they always say HEALTH IS WEALTH! Your food selection today, makes you enjoy for the moment and affects your health tomorrow and in the future!
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are good for you and what they do to help the body function.
