I think in the classroom we should help student become culturally aware and embrace their culture, but it is also out job to prepare them for what society is right not. Right now there is a very large divide between culture (if your culture is not the dominate one) and the professional world. Having the ability to communicate in one language can help others communicate in everyday life from walking through town and shopping to making deals in business. Having a society that is monolingual can improve economies and relations throughout the world. Also, there was a survey in 2007 to determine the number of 5 year olds and older who spoke a language other than English at home. English is a popular language, not just in English speaking countries, but also in countries that it is not the primary language. As the world changes, English becomes more and more of a necessity for society to communicate. Professor Mehmood Sherani writes in his book, “Urdu in Punjab” (Punjab mein Urdu) that, in comparison to Birj bhasha Urdu is more similar and closer to the Punjabi language. According to him Urdu and Punjabi language both have the same type of syntax and linguistic development. Also in the terms of word and sound variations a great similarity is found. Its influence is found for at least 200 years after Mehmood Ghaznavi captured Punjab at the end of 10th century. In this period a new language had come into being. This is, presently found in the shape of Urdu. Although his research helped in figuring out the origin of Urdu we cannot say the Punjabi language is its main source.
Does studying mostly in English at university lead to a loss in Arabic literacy and language skills? In fact, there are many point of views around this major issue; education and technology are developing rapidly worldwide and every nation is competing in order to become the best in teaching in English forgetting the side effects that might occur to the native language of the country. English is considered to be the main language that is used worldwide; as a result, in order to communicate with people around the world Arabs have to learn how to speak and write in English. There are different opinions on whether studying in English affects our Arabic literacy and skills. There are some parents who agree that English is affecting the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) language. On the other hand, other parents do not agree and they think English has no effect on MSA or Emirati Arabic (ElBahi, 2013). In my point of view, I think studying in English leads to a loss of Arabic literacy and language skills because it may reduce the use of Modern Standard Arabic Language (MSA). MSA language is being faded by some students for the reason that they are studying in private schools and spending more time with their maids. As a result, losing our MSA language will lead to a loss of our national identity.

Even though there are advantages as well as disadvantages, the need for international language for communication, politics, economics and security is necessary and English is the best “language candidate” for that function. English is a language spread all over the world and it is used by millions and millions of speakers. According to my opinion, people should use English as a tool to communicate with all cultures but every country must keep their culture and language is a great part of it. In conclusion, language defines identity of a country and everyone should keep their language and explore others.
