Control Processes in Projects Within the steps of project management, control is very crucial. Project managers spend their time controlling all aspects of a project, but are mostly focused on time, scope and cost. This is due to how easy it is to lose sight of the project objectives, particularly, on large projects that can quickly spin out of control. Having mechanisms to control the project is of the utmost importance. The importance of control in the project is to stay ahead of any failure that may happen within the project scope. “The controlling process ensures that project objectives are met by monitoring and measuring progress and taking corrective action when necessary.” (Douglas, 1999, p. C71). Project managers must have mechanisms to identify problems before they become failures. No matter the reason for control there are three basic types of control mechanisms that project managers’ use: cybernetic, …show more content…
The importance of control in a project is to stay ahead of failures that may happen within the project scope. Having mechanisms to control the project and ensure the project stays on track is of the utmost importance. The three different types of controls defined in this paper, give project managers a set of tools and mechanisms to follow when managing projects. Whether your project includes the automation of cybernetic processes, the ability to test each part like go/no-go or using the post-control mechanisms to further your knowledge for future projects, each of these methods give project teams a way to control important factors within their projects. Moreover, it is commonly acknowledged that monitoring and controlling is the best way to keep project failures within the identified specifics of the project scope. Hyde (2003) states that a key element in project success, is to keep in mind the stakeholders throughout the entire process, as having buy-in from key stakeholders is a path to

The project manager needs to concentrate on executing the phase along with the planning phase. The quality of the product needs to be checked and also the stakeholders need to be managed. Monitoring and controlling Process (Schwalbe, 2014): The project manager needs to monitor the project team from beginning of the project to the end of the project, needs to verify if any issues are being solved and also needs to check whether the objective needs are being met or not. In this phase they need to report the performance of the project and if required changes need to be done to keep the project on track.
In every project there are always some universal characteristics that will be shared. They all have a comprehensible and established purpose and very distinct life durations. Overall, all projects are doing something that may possibly be new or yet a one time endeavor but have explicit requirements which include; time, price, and performan...

EVM control the projects, yet dependent on a project’s effective plans. About EVM we know collectively from these research works. Firstly EVM contributes to project planning then secondly EVM contributes to project control and EVM contribution to project management processes, all these processes are believed to positively influence project performance. This is a EVM contribution to project success.
The importance of project oversight assists top management in mitigating risks and allows them to be proactive and take the necessary corrective action when problems arise. By proactively monitoring the project managers the company can reduce the amount of delays ensuring the project stays on track. This is important to the organization due to the fact its serves in the best interest of the stakeholders of the entire project.
Project management is said to be completed within time when it completed within the “triple constraints”: cost, time and quality. And in a lot of causes, one them is sacrificed so as to meet the other two. Project managers prioritize which ones are the most important.
In the globalized economy, Successful project managers are in much demand across many industries. Organizations strongly need experienced project managers to lead their staff to accomplish their business goals and deliver successful projects. In an increasingly complex environment, project managers need to turn into many roles and have all kinds of responsibilities at each level of management within an organization. Good project managers are not born. They need to be trained. They develop their skills through study, practise and experience. They become better project managers after they finish a successful project each time. They learn new techniques and apply them on their projects. They learn their lessons from failed projects and then improve to be better project managers in the future.
Projects are critical to the success of any organization as they involve the activities that result in new or changed products, services, environments, processes and organizations. Organizations have increasingly embraced project management as a key strategy for staying ahead in today’s highly competitive business environment.
When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed. Project management is referred to as the discipline that entails the processes of carefully planning, organizing, controlling, and motivating the organization resources so as to foster and facilitate the achievement of specific established and desired goals and meet the specific criteria of success required in the organization (Larson, 2014). Over the course of this paper I will be discussing and analyzing the importance of project management.
By not understanding what the controlling activities will include, the planning process is incomplete. In today’s environment, the relationship between project planning and project control are critical. When a project has an unforeseen event occur, it can be contributed to a planning failure. This is where control comes in to implement the corrective action. This unforeseen event is now a lesson learned and is considered in the planning of future projects. Therefore, project planning and effective project control is an iterative process as depicted below (PMBOK ,

There are several factors that contribute to project success. The most important one is the effectiveness of the project manager. A project manager is a person who is responsible for the execution and successful planning of a project. Research shows that project management is most effective when the manager practices both management skills and effective leadership skills (Kumar 2009). It is observed that leadership skills can be learned, however, leadership qualities have to be developed. Whereas, in the context of strong management skills, these are competencies that can be acquired through practice and experience. Successful project managers understand the importance of evaluating, monitoring, evaluating, analyzing and developing a process.
Project management involves all activities that encompass scheduling, planning, and controlling projects. A successful project manager ensure that an organization’s resources are being used both efficiently and effectively. Most projects need to be uniquely developed require a sense of customization and the ability to adapt to any posed challenges. The scope of effective project management includes defining what the project is and what is being expected to be accomplished. Projects are imposed to fulfill a certain need and project managers must have the ability to create the proper definition. Goals and the means used to attain those goals have to be clearly stated. Project Managers must also have the ability to plan
