My career interest is to go into the field of Exercise Science and be a Personal Trainer. When I was private trained as a cross country and track runner, it made me realize that it is incredibly amazing how you can transform the human body. I was slow and weak but once I got coached by my personal coach, I became faster and stronger. From a young age I was interested in the medical field. As I became more exposed to the various options, I decided physical therapy was the right career for me. My experience has proved the field to be interesting and fun. I enjoy working with people and the versatility of therapy. There are many areas to specialize in and I look forward to learning which one is right for me. At the moment I am interested in pediatric acute care but I am also interested in sports and orthopedics. As I continue my studies, I look forward to learning about the different fields in which physical therapy will take me. My future views may change which physical therapy field I wish to pursue, but right now I look forward to learning as much as I can about physical therapy and helping others.
When most people think of a physical trainer the first thing one would think of would probably be a very strong and bulky man, but anyone can do this. (AFAA) The biggest skill you would need is to have the will power to never give up and battle through the pain. In order to be a successful personal trainer it is ideal to have excellent communication skills. You will need these because of the amount of people you are going to have encounters with. You will also need to have a lot of patience in case you have a patient that is slower than you or is struggling with one of the exercises. Another attribute for someone who is interested in the field is someone who is strong mentally and physically and enjoys working hard. It is someone who is not willing to give up and makes sure the tasks have been completed. The last skill needed is to have great listening skills. They need to be able to hear the patient and try to make a nice, comfortable conversation with them.
