Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in treating patients who are afflicted with behavioral, mental and emotional disorders. In order to become a psychiatrist, one must complete medical school and earn a medical degree and state licensing. After earning their degrees and completing residency training, psychiatrists are then able to work with patients. The salary of a psychiatrist can vary depending on in what type of institution he or she may work. With a faster than average growth of employment, opportunities to work in many facilities, and a great amount of needed education, psychiatry is a challenging, but rewarding career.
With a great amount of needed education to become a psychiatrist, one must begin preparing for this rigorous task during high school. While in high school, a student should take classes such as biology, chemistry, and psychology (770). After completing high school, it would be beneficial to then major in biology or chemistry in college, while still taking psychology classes during undergraduate studies (774). With a bachelors in one of these areas of study, the next step is to go to medical school. During a student’s second half of medical school, he or she will begin hands-on training (773). After graduating for medical school he or she will complete three or four years of residency training and then be able to take state-licensing tests in order to become a certified psychiatrist (773). After completing residency training and certification, a psychiatrist can then select a sub-specialty such as child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, or addiction psychiatry (ExploreHealthCareers). A large amount of education is needed to become a successful doctor in the field of psychiatry.

In my clinical experiences in Canada and the United States, I managed patients that had co-morbidities that with appropriate psychiatric care, and psychopharmacology, not only were able to improve physiologically, but also were able to have a more meaningful life. Because of my passion for Psychiatry I have consistently been involved with Psychiatry CMEs, attended Psychiatry conferences as well as had hands on clinical rotations in Adult Psychiatry, both inpatient and outpatient. I have started working with a reputable university in Canada as a Program assistant to help improve the professional life of internationally trained Medical Professionals.
Practitioners are likely to concentrate on the mental health issues rather than the overall issues that prevent the well-being of an individual. For instance, an individual could have other medical issues that need attention but the need could be ignored because a psychiatrist specialises in mental health needs. The previous negative experience of a service user and lack of insight could result in the service user not requesting the support they

In ancient times, a superstition was once believed by humans that erratic behavior was the possession of spiritually evil demons, that only wizardry or sorcery could mend and cure the mentally ill. In 1808, a man named Professor Johann Christian Reil developed a new medicine field called Psychiatry, meaning the soul or mind. Eventually, the physicians practicing this medical field were known as Psychiatrist (“History of Psychiatry”). As time passed, the field started to evolve and the knowledge expanded becoming one of the oldest medical fields still existing today (“Psychiatrist – DO/MD”). Psychiatrists are medical doctors who are experts at preventing and treating psychological illnesses such as mental disorders. A Psychiatrist is a significant aspect to the medical field because they gain insight into the human mind, specialize in varieties of mental disorders, and help humans overcome internal problems.

I think that there are many differences in each career and you must always ask yourself what is right for you. You must also take into consideration that school is a big part of this career path and you must dedicate your self to studying even when not in school anymore. It 's kind of like a professor in that regard you must also read medical journals and scholastic magazines in order to keep current on procedures and in teaching

In this essay/report I will explain to the best of my abilities, my possible career path. I have wanted to be many things. In grade 1, I wanted to be a superhero, and that hope stayed out for a while. Later on, when I was 10, my brain started getting new ideas, exploring the world around me, thinking of other things aside form cartoons and I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to become a superhero? I started thinking of other jobs like firefighter, police officer, engineer, construction worker etc., etc. But then I decided it was no good. Then one day when I was watching an interview on TV, a firefighter was being interviewed and one of the questions was: How long did it take you to decide what you wanted to be? And he said a long time. Then I wondered how long a long time would be, I wanted to jump into the TV and ask the guy how long a long time was. Hmm, I wondered, how long is a long time and then I answered my question. “It’s going to be a long time ‘till it’s a long time, I’ve got nothing to worry about.” That question just flew off my mind until at the start of grade eight when I encountered this question again, and I answered it. It took a while and some research but I answered it. I want to be a Neurosurgeon when I grow up.
