I can relate to Anzia Yezierskis idea of what it means to be an American because I believe if you want to be someone and reach your goals you have to work hard for them. “Like a hungry cat rubbing up to it’s boss for meat”. Noda she explains that being an American and being another race both fall into honoring your country wherever you came from. Kesaya E. Noda idea of what being an American means really relates to mine because in her essay she talks about being another race as well as being American and still keeping pride and honor of both countries. “I come from a people with a long memory and a distinctive grace. America is still “The Land of Opportunity” because there is much more freedom in America than most other countries. There are no caste systems to limit what someone who is in America can do. Additionally an American’s destiny is created by his/her own choices, not the choices of his/her family or peers. America is a country founded by immigrants for immigrants, and although the Land of Opportunity has suffered an economic crisis in the last decade, it still maintains its reputation for being the greatest country in the world. The United States is still “The Land of Opportunity” because there are no caste systems, one’s destiny is made by his/her choices, and American freedoms are a part of everyday life.
The definition of an American, is someone who is a citizen of the United States. Many African Americans, and immigrants struggled to become actual Americans in their lifetimes, because others didn 't see them as actual people; and based it on the color of someone. In today 's world people who live in America consider themselves as Americans, but to me there is certain qualities that make a person an American. To me being a true American is not based off of what Country they were born in, or what race their parents are, or even if they were immigrated to the United States. People from all over the world would say that maybe people could base this off of someone 's family heritage, or where they were before they came to America. If you were asked what makes an American an American what would you base it off of? To me there are four specific characteristics that make a person a true American; those three things would be, freedom, individuality, belief in the country, and happiness.
Nationalism is extreme loyalty and devotion to one particular nation, and many Americans are nationalistic about their country. But even though they are loyal to America, defining what it means to be a true American is tricky. Being American is one complex thing, but the concept of being American can not be fully grasped. What it means to be American may in fact be one of the biggest mysteries of all time. Indeed, discovering what it means to be a true American could possibly take an entire lifetime. One thing, however about all true Americans is certain: we are all alike in that each one of us is different from the Americans in important ways. We are diverse in our backgrounds, races, and religions. Nevertheless, we are exactly identical in the we feel toward our country, even though we express our pride in a million different ways.
How would you define an America individual? Is it wealth? Is it education? Is it your social status? Today, there are many ways you could use to define or create your definition of an American Individual. Within Lee Greenwood's song “ God Bless the U.S.A there are multiple feature of An American, which is an individual who takes pride in their work, country, and their freedom who works for everything and takes no shortcuts, a person who acknowledges the people who fight for their liberty, an individual who makes sacrifices and does their civil duties, an individual who acknowledged that living in the U.S. is an uncommon luxury, and that there are no limits to what can do. These aspects are continuously found within the song “ God Bless the U.S.A. and can be proven thoroughly.
What does America mean? It is a hard question to answer, and there is no wrong answer because depending on a person’s past it can shape someone’s answer to this question. To me, America means achievement, freedom, and success. I have thought of these answers because of my past, and my families past. Another reason for those answers is because my family is foreign and came to America, for the reasons I listed, and after learning about my family's past, I can stand firm in my answers to What America means to me.
America is the land of the free and the place of opportunities for everyone. Where the common man can life a comfortable lifestyle. A country that allow people to live a long, prosperous life. The red, white, blue that provides individuals to believe in their own religious, politics, and decided their own choices. The place that accept and respects various cultures, which has various customs. However, the ethnicity of people should be respected, too. Right now, America only recognized black people for their physically contributions such as fashion, music, art, but reject the race of black people.
