I M A Positive Go Getter?

I 'm a positive go-getter. At a young age I was surrounded by inspiring leaders in my family, diverse cultures, and a firm spiritual background. These three elements mixed together made me the person I am today.

My mother is one of my biggest supporters and critics. As a single mother, she raised me in the West Indian community in Bronx, New York; Kingston, Jamaica; and finally Bergen County, New Jersey. She is strict and loving all in one.

I watched her gracefully manage a successful career at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York before resigning to complete her college education. I remember it like it was yesterday; I attended my mother’s graduation from Pace University in New York and then quickly headed back to New Jersey to attend

After moving to New Jersey, I spent many weekends attending dance classes in Harlem, visiting family and friends in Brooklyn and the Bronx, and walking the streets of Times Square—popping in and out of theaters and shops.

I consider both New York and New Jersey home. New York exposed me to the West Indian music, food, and culture I know all too well. New Jersey introduced me to the Italian culture I’m captivated by. In the same light, New Jersey gave me a new family at my local church. I consider my church family a part of my real family; I call many of the elders there aunts and uncles. My spiritual background is the number one reason for my positive outlook in life. I try to spread positive vibes where ever I go. My friends and family look to me for a cheerful spirit and that to me is a great characteristic to have.

In high school I became aware of this personality trait when one of my favorite teachers nominated me for president of the Diverse Culture Club at Lodi High School. I realized my attitude for having a positive outlook in any situation and my passion working with people for a charitable or fun cause made me a great leader. At that moment I knew I wanted to be a leader in everything I do and I wanted to work with the best organizations and
