When it comes to learning the thing that pops up in many people’s mind is boredom especially if they are in a subject they truly despise. Learning can be fun by showing the students how to engage in class discussions that are fun for them as well as making sure the students want to attend class without making them suffer daily. In the short stories, “I Just Wanna Be Average” by Mike Rose and “A Prostitute, A Servant, And A Customer-Service Representative” by Carmen R. Lugo-Lugo they state, how each teacher has their way of teaching and wanting to engage their students. There are occasions when teachers rather go by the book and never go out of the box because it will seem too much work for them to do. The teacher of Mike Rose would mention he had been teaching for two years and he clearly had not real life experiences. He did not know how to handle his students and rather go by the book than making it interesting for them. In Mike Rose, short story, “I Just Wanna Be Average” he states, “I developed further into a mediocre student and a somnambulant problem solver, and that affected the subjects I did have the wherewithal to handle.” (126) Mike did not have any more energy to do anything because the teacher cannot handle on making the subject good for him to understand. The teacher did not have any experience in making the class interesting or involving for the students. When there is a good teacher there must be some experience and involvement that can connect them to the real world, but at the same time be compassionate. It shows how some teachers have no expectations for their students to learn and rather be lazy about it and have them fail. It will show how much a teacher wants that student to do better and the feedback they are giving out too. It will mean that the student also needs to be able to communicate with their teacher even though some students may be shy to do so. If the student does not communicate with their teacher it will most likely not be good for them since they cannot express their thoughts. Mike Rose states, “Jack MacFarland couldn’t have come into my life at a better time… MacFarland’s lectures were crafted, and as he delivered them he would pace the room jiggling a piece of chalk in his cupped hand...” (131) Rose had stated how his English teacher could not come at a better time in his life because he was suffering from the loss of his father and was having a hard time in school. He got to know his English teacher so well that he was glad that he was around because he taught him what no other teacher had. It will show how good the communication was between Rose and MacFarland. Even though teachers may seem strict or they have an ugly presentation it does not mean that they will not be good enough to teach. Teachers need to be allowed to teach the students how they want so the lesson plan is more fun and exciting. Boredom is just an emotion and teachers shouldn’t have to feel that because of them, they are affecting the state of mind of students.. Teachers should able to engage the students with their own thought process. Teachers need freedom and should not have to worry about how fast they teach a subject because the government wants it done in a specific way at a specific time. Teachers understand that students all learn differently and many teachers want to help all of their students, but they are stuck in a school system that tells them how they must teach.
13. Preventing Boredom and filling “free” time: To prevent students from becoming sidetracked and bored, I know it is important to have a continuous flow of activities. To ensure this, I plan all of my lessons with extra activities for unexpected “free” time. These efforts will help ensure that class time is used wisely for furthering education. I feel that the busier I keep my students the less likely they will have time for inappropriate behavior.
Methods like experiments, field trips or role play are rarely used. Because of that, labs and tutorials are more essential for these learners. Among the methods that can help these learners are by trying to use all the senses in the learning process because the more senses you use the higher recall will be, as you have many clues. In addition, make notes with several examples for each concept and use your own examples, the more personal examples you create, the better you remember. Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Teachers should be able to provide an (while not at always enjoyable) overall work experience that keep the student engaged into the content being taught. There are many teachers who are unwilling to put in the necessary amount of time. While some teachers do put forth the effort to teach their students, some are unable to clarify the content among the students.
Everyone has different learning styles. Learning styles are important because they help you better understand materials in classes. They are there to guide you and become a better student. Learning styles help you better grasp the material and better process it through your brain. When learning you want to do what is most beneficial for you. Auditory is meant for individuals that enjoy asking questions, talking and listening, as well as like to read out loud. Visual learners are more interested in charts, graphs, neat surroundings, seeing rather than hearing, and are pictured to be timid as they read to themselves rather than out loud. Finally there is the kinesthetic learning style. Kinesthetic is to touch, to feel, and usually learn by doing.

Over the course of observations, I learned that there is no one way to do anything in teaching. After a few weeks of observing, I was relieved because I thought that I could stop worrying so much about doing the “right” thing with the students. I saw a successful teacher doing, or neglecting to do things that went against what I had been taught. I incorrectly assumed that the choices the teacher made about how to organize the day, approach a lesson, or manage the classroom were mostly a matter of personal preference and that several approaches would produce equally desirable results.

Another benefit is feedback affords an opportunity for clarification of what is expected. Student performance and achievement increases as they are able to understand the expectations for the specified task or project. This process also helps alleviate frustrations one may feel when unsure of the criteria for quality performance. Feedback also helps students identify strengths and weaknesses in various content arenas. Effective feedback from the teacher assists in student identification of the level of which they are performing as compared to the desired goal.
