Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) is a common sexual problem for both male and females where there is an absence or deficiency of sexual fantasies and sexual activity which is causing distress to one’s lifestyle. It affects approximately 33% of women and 17% of men ages 18-59. Unfortunately for those who suffer from it, it is a complex dysfunction as a result of having many different causes. The three major categories for factors of HSDD are physical (like aging or hormone imbalances), psychological (things like anxiety, relationship problems, or poor body image), and medication (like certain antidepressants or blood pressure medications) (Kingsberg, 2010.) According to the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental …show more content…
Increase of testosterone/estrogen through pills or patches, pills which increase other hormones, sex therapy, or the creation a new drug from the spotted hyenas which increase sexual desire in both men and women (through lots of research). Through the use of testosterone and/or estrogen pills and patches, sexual desire has been reported to increase somewhat significantly if given a certain dosage of just testosterone or a mix of testosterone and estrogen (Braunstein et al., 2005.) Even though long term side effects of this have yet to be discovered, it will be helpful in those who suffer HSDD because of hormonal imbalances in both men and women. Also an alternate way to deal with physical causes of HSDD is to give drugs that would cause levels of dopamine and norepinephrine to rise since both are linked with arousal (Stahl, 2010.) Sex therapy, or even just regular therapy (depending on the severity of the problem) may prove to be the most successful with patients who have hypoactive sexual desire disorder because of psychological reasons; that way they can work out their issues with someone knowledgeable about the subject. Regular therapy may work for those with common psychological issues like anxiety, while relationship issues may be better for a specialized sex therapist. For my last and most unusual solution, we should create some form of drug from spotted hyenas that just overall causes sexual desire in general; not just for one specific cause. The drug should be researched upon for a long time and be so far into the future that it will be able to predict or at least identify what causes the HSDD in the patient and then resolves it in that way. Female spotted hyenas are known to have odd masculine traits or behaviors when it comes to reproduction, and I believe that by extracting some special genetic code as well as fuse
Sexual dysfunction can be defined as the inability to partake in or enjoy sexual relationship with one's partner as a result of underlying physical and/or psychological factors (Hoel, 1998). Physical attributions play a large part in both males and females and their ability to perform and enjoy sex. Males encounter several normal changes as they become older. A decrease in the hormone testosterone is very common amongst males with increasing age. Testosterone is beneficial because it gives a decrease in body fat, an increase in energy, including sexual energy, and an increase in lean muscle. These factors are important for physical attraction one has for another, definitely improving the outcome of sexual arousal. The size and firmness of the testicles may be reduced because of this decrease as well. The sexual response phase also changes with age. During the beginning of sex, an older man may experience a delay in his erection and when erect, the penis may not be as firm as when younger. ...

Hyper Sexual addiction is a disorder that can be defined as a person having a habitually elevated sex drive, fantasies, and urges. Nevertheless, compared to other sexual addictions, this could be known as one of the most riskiest and dangerous addiction. Hyper Sexual Addiction has become more prevalent because of the infidelities amongst some celebrities and political figures. Sexual addiction has always existed, but because of technology and social media, people have become more aware of it. People who suffer from this disorder are like drug addicts that crave drugs; they think they can stop, but the urges are constantly there. According to An Elements Behavioral Health article (2016), for the sex addict, sexual activity provides an intense,
The medicalization of sex addiction demonstrates the lengths at which medical authority will go to inject another fabricated disease into the blood of society. While alleged sex addictions have existed for many years, they have only recently been accepted as valid excuses for sexual deviancy. Attitudes toward sex addiction in the past offer a stark contrast to how it is viewed today, as the constantly medicalizing society insists on putting everything under the technical microscope. Sex addiction is commonly associated with a person’s inability to control his sexual behavior, implying an abnormally high sex drive and obsession with sex which have negative effects on his personal life (MedicineNet 2007, 1). Rather than breaking down the science behind the disorder, a customary practice in today’s medicalized society, older attitudes towards sex addiction placed it under the same light as alcoholism, where a lack of control and unwillin... ...
Sex is a beautiful thing that happens between two people, but sometimes sex can become addictive, and like with any other addiction, it can ruin lives. Patricia is in her mid-thirties, and to those who know her, she is a soccer mom with a successful career. But after her marriage ended due to her husband’s affair, Patricia became insecure, and started exploring dating sites on the internet – soon, Patricia was going on dates, sex dates - and in an interview with the Philadelphia Weekly, she admits that she is addicted to sex, and there is a problem. The American Psychiatric Association and Diagnostic (APAD) and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR) don’t recognize the abuse of sex as an addiction. Although not recognize as an addiction, the abuse of sex has the same qualities as drug addiction and should be recognized as a medical condition.
The lust evolution theory in Pitman’s (2014) lecture connects to Hill’s (2013) article. Hormones are a huge part of life, especially in a relationship. They control the amounts of metabolism released and growth in our body. Most importantly hormones produce a need for reproduction causing a sex drive towards other mates. This theory connects to Hill’s (2013) article by connecting the sex drive to unsatisfying sex life. If one person in a relationship is watching pornography there is a chance of them having more hormones than the other person. Since it is in male nature to have more sex drive, this theory fits extremely well with feeling inadequate. One partner may feel satisfied but because of hormones the other might not. There should be no feelings of inadequate, since it’s just our bodies releasing different amounts of horm...

Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., the first person to identify and treat this affliction, hypothesized sex addiction results from a person needing certain neuro-chemical changes (4). Everybody experiences certain neuro-chemical changes that make the physical act of sex feel pleasurable. A normal person produces this stimulus, attains the natural high, and is satisfied. An addict, however, uses this chemical to escape pain or seek relief from stress (4). This theory supports a nature argument because there is nothing a person can do about it. Their body creates an altered response to a completely normal act and fosters an uncontrollable need to experience sex. It is comparable to an alcoholic's reaction to alcohol (4). The sex addict needs this chemical to be released in order to desensitize themselves from their problems. This is not healthy, but i...
A vast amount of men and women suffer from some type of sexual dysfunction. Researchers have identified a number of factors that may contribute to or perpetuate sexual dysfunction, including, but not limited to, performance anxiety. Performance anxiety is defined as an obsession about the adequate pleasing of one’s partner during the act of sexual intercourse. Rather than focusing on the pleasurable benefits that one can receive from intercourse, the individual experiencing performance anxiety is focused on how well he or she is performing (McCabe, 2005). Oftentimes, someone who suffers from a sexual dysfunction experiences increased performance anxiety because he or she feels that the dysfunction inhibits performance, thus they think the sex is not satisfactory for their partner.

Much like many medications, there is no absolute guarantee that chemical castration will be effective when used on everyone. However, there are multiple studies that prove its success rate and other advantages. Although an absolute direct correlation between sexual offences and hormonal imbalance has not been completely proven, various theories prove that sexual offending has incorporated hormonal factors and that chemical castration reduces sexual interest and repeat sex offences (Joo Yong Lee, 2013). In 2014, a study was conducted by the International Society of Sexual Medicine to evaluate the effectiveness of chemical castration on sex offenders. 56 offenders, arrested for sexual offences, were used as subjects. Group A had 38 offenders and were injected every three months with leuprolide acetate (a synthetic gonadotropin releasing hormone) and group B had 18 and was injected with leuprolide acetate every six months. It was found in group A that sexual thoughts decreased significantly by 76% and 71% and masturbation decreased by 74%. In group B sexual thoughts decreased by 78% and 72% and masturbation declined by 83% (Koo KC, 2014). This evidence therefore supported that chemical castration was a very viable option in order to decrease their libido and sexual fantasy. Chemical castration also plays a key
