This gives a theoretical yield of .63 grams. My actual yield was .42 grams. Therefore, my percent yield was 67%. This was one of my highest yields yet. I felt that this was a good yield because part of this experiment is an equilibrium reaction. Hypochlorite must be used in excess to push the reaction to the right. Also, there were better ways to do this experiment where higher yields could have been produced. For example PCC could have been used. However, because of its toxic properties, its use is restricted. The purpose of this experiment was to determine which of the 3 compounds was formed from the starting material. The third compound was the oxidation of both alcohols. This could not have been my product because of the results of my IR. I had a broad large absorption is the range of 3200 to 3500 wavenumbers. This indicates the presence of an alcohol. If my compound had been fully oxidized then there would be no such alcohol present. Also, because of my IR, I know that my compound was one of the other 2 compounds because of the strong sharp absorption at 1705 wavenumbers. This indicates the presence of a carbonyl. Also, my 2,4-DNP test was positive. Therefore I had to prove which of the two compounds my final product was. The first was the oxidation of the primary alcohol, forming an aldehyde and a secondary alcohol. This could not have been my product because the Tollen’s test. My test was negative indicating no such aldehyde. Also, the textbook states that aldehydes show 2 characteristic absorption’s in the range of 2720-2820 wavenumbers. No such absorption’s were present in my sample. Therefore my final product was the oxidation of the secondary alcohol. My final product had a primary alcohol and a secondary ketone

For example, the narrator says “When she got home she thought about calling him [Les Goodwin], but instead she went upstairs and lay face down on Kate’s empty bed, cradled Kate’s blanket, clutched Kate’s baby pillow to her stomach and fought off a wave of the dread” (Didion 23). It is obvious that Maria is depressed; however, she cannot confide in anyone. She cannot confide in Carter because he is emotionally distant nor can she confide in her lover Les Goodwin because he is a married man. Thus, leading to Maria becoming self-destructive and unintentionally seeking an identity. For example after a party, Maria “was stopped for speeding outside Tonopah and when the highway patrolman saw the silver dress and the bare feet and the Ferrari registered to someone else” the officer found out it was indeed stolen ( Didion 154). Didion creatively shows readers that Maria is acting out unintentionally because of her lack of control over life. In fact, someone who was in his or her right mind would have not stolen a car from a famous person like the one Maria did. Yet she carried on and kept writing Harry Potter and chasing her dream and she ended up as the most successful writer of the modern era. She was laser-focused on her goals. As stated by Aristotle, “a man cannot become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall;” his hamartia must bring about his peripeteia and he must have a fate that is greater than deserved. However, if there were more than one contender for this pitiable position, who would be the real tragic hero? In Antigone by Socrates, though Antigone and Creon both show traits which could depict them as a “tragic hero,” Creon wins the role by far. Despite sharing the same fatal flaw of arrogance and pride, Creon’s tribulations and actions as he goes through a series of unfortunate events more closely fit the definition of a tragic hero than Antigone’s.
The plotting to assassinate Caesar took nearly the majority of the play. During Julius Caesar’s parade following his victory against Pompey: Cassius took Brutus off to the side and talked to him about his plot to kill Caesar, but Brutus does not understand why he should be killed. So Cassius says, “ I was born as free as Caesar; so were you”(1.2.96). Cassius is trying to use evidence that Caesar is mortal, so he can convince Brutus to join the conspiracy. Cassius finds Casca in the forest at night and begins a speech to get him to join as well. Cassius says, “you are dull, Casca, and these sparks of life that should be in a Roman you do want”(1.3.56) to Casca. Cassius comes to Casca also to convince him to kill Caesar with him. Cassius spends lots of time going around trying to get people in his conspiracy, and once he gets people they go on and plan how/where they will kill Caesar.

Brutus is considered an honorable, noble man in Rome and it is important to Cassius that he becomes part of the conspiracy. In Act 1, Cassius and Brutus agree that Caesar becoming king would be detrimental to Rome. Cassius starts off persuading Brutus by describing how weak Caesar is. He states, “he had a fever when he was Spain, and when the fit was on him, I did mark how he did shake; ‘tis true, this god did shake” (I.ii.119-121). Cassius is trying to show Brutus that Caesar is not perfect or better than everyone else. In fact, he is weak and infirm. Next, Cassius makes the point that Caesar is too powerful and if he becomes king, he will rule over the people “like a Colossus” (I.ii.136).
