I realized I was a victim of bullying. Bullying is defined as, intentionally aggressive behavior, repeated over time, that is marked by an imbalance of power. They helped me understand that my coaches’ actions were unacceptable and plain wrong. My parents requested a meeting with the principle and the superintendent of schools to lay out their concerns. This experience with a bullying coach has encouraged me to bring awareness that bullying is a growing problem in sport and performance settings.
Workplace bullying is defined as any as any type of repetitive abuse in which the victim of the bullying behaviour suffers verbal abuse, threats, humiliating or intimidating behaviours, or behaviours that interfere with his or her job performance and are meant to place at risk the health and safety of the victim (Murray, 2009). My major is Human Resources. The problem is sexual harassment in the work place. Sexual harassment affects everyone in the work environment. Sexual harassment has been a problem for years. According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), sexual harassment includes: Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature ... when submission to or rejection of this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual's employment. The first sexual harassment case was in 1976. (2006) Also, these cases have been proven fraudulent. Each cases have to be exam very closely, because some companies have paid millions of dollars due to law suits. Sexual harassment cases are very sensitive, because a person can lose a job, marriage, and his or her reputation.
Sexual Harassment is unwanted sexual harassment by someone at work, be it a boss or another employee, this is what I have always thought how sexual harassment in the workplace was defined. It is so much more. Sexual harassment is now defined as telling someone they look nice, yes that is sexual harassment today. Telling someone they smell good, yes that is sexual harassment today. There are so many issues that can be considered sexual harassment that there are too many to name them all in this one research paper. You cannot pick up a newspaper or turn on the news without hearing about the latest sexual harassment case. This happens everywhere, big companies, small companies, movie stars, schools, restaurants, warehouses, bus drivers, all industries, no place is immune. . Human resource departments have to stay current on all examples of sexual harassment; they must keep current with all the legalities involved in educating staff and pursuing sexual harassment cases in the workplace.
It’s not fair that your problems should be out for the public to see because what comes with that are bullies that doesn’t care about your thoughts, opinions, or feelings. The author state, “sometimes compare it to bullies in a schoolyard all ganging up on person who, for one second, said the wrong thing” (Leopold, Todd. The price of public shaming in the Internet age. Modern, 2015.) The shaming is becoming more relentless because society is starting to commit the crime by shaming the individual that is being publicly shamed by the whole public to see. For example, many people, including children, may have the mentality that supports public humiliation. They’ll start to think that it is acceptable to humiliate people on the regular basis which can be a
In the TED talk, The Price of Shame by Monica Lewinsky, “At the age of 22, I fell in love with my boss, and at the age of 24, i learned the devastating consequences” (Lewinsky 2:35). In this quote, Monica is being shamed professionally because she implies that she lost her job because of the mistake she made. Similarly in The New York Times article, Is The Internet a Mob Without Consequences?,” She (Justine Sacco) deleted her entire social footprint online, including her Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and was fired from her job, effective 12 hours earlier” (Bilton 6). This is another case in which the person receiving the hate lost their job and it is mostly from the fact that companies don't want to hold onto these people who are receiving all of this shame because it leaves a bad mark on their company. On top of that, when these people who are receiving the hate like Justice and Monica want to get new jobs, they will be more cautious with hiring them because of their past mistakes. As a result, professional shaming can affect one's life
Bullying is a major problem in our society today, especially among teens. Bullying can be found in many forms, such as, direct bullying, which is considered kicking, hitting, making cruel comments, or threats. On the other hand, indirect bullying is spreading rumors, or excluding someone from a group; most of the time indirect bullying is done by females. Another form of bullying is cyber-bullying, which is done on the internet, social networking sites, email, or texting. This has become a very popular form of bullying over the past few years. Also, hazing is considered bullying. The term hazing can vary from singing an embarrassing song to extreme physical torture (Rees 24). Hazing is mostly done in sports and in social groups. The term “bullying” is considered a verbal or physical action that causes physical or psychological harm, is repeated over time, and occurs in a relationship of unequal power (Waters 7). Some people think that bullying does not lead to suicide, and that bullying is just a natural part of life. However, bullying, in many cases, is leading to suicide.
Workplace harassment is unwelcome actions that are based on a person’s race, religion, color, and sex, and gender, country of origin, age, ethnicity or disability. The targets of the harassment are people who are usually perceived as “weaker” or “inferior” by the person who is harassing them. Companies and employers can also be guilty of workplace harassment if they utilize discriminatory practices against persons based on ethnicity, country of origin, religion, race, color, age, disability, or sex. These discriminatory practices have been illegal since the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Civil Rights Act of 1964), and have been amended to be more inclusive of other people who experience discrimination by the Civil Rights Act of 1991 (The Civil Rights Act of 1991), and most recently, President Obama’s signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 (Stolberg, 2009).
Harassment and discrimination claims are due to lack of education about the subject. As an independent human resources consultant, Santiago-Santos will organize a local education campaign and provide employers with different trainings to educate them and their employees about harassment and discrimination. Employers will have a better understanding on how to develop internal policies and procedures to address these claims. Also, trainings will be provided for employees and they will be educated on how to prevent and identify harassment and discrimination as well as what steps to take in order to report such behavior.

However its turn into a major issue when a collaborator or most exceedingly bad an administrator place you in a troublesome spot. Many people have fallen victim of shame and as our culture advances, shame adapts whether it’s spread through social media or personally. Shame is a feeling of deep humiliation because of a wrongful behavior or the public’s action of condemning an unlawful doing. When these intense emotions are not dealt with appropriately it can be unhealthy for the brains development as well as our mental health. Shame has been a part of our society for generations as a method to deter individuals from committing crimes, creating safer communities; however, the use of shame should be controlled to stop people from using humiliation as a tool to degrade others through modern communication.
Sexual assault has been a persistent and detrimental problem at workplace. Despite various attempts both publicly and privately to stop this behaviour, it is still happening and causing lots of concern.
