There are many different humanitarian organizations in our world today. These organizations work with a purpose. This purpose is to provide for individual’s needs. Some focus on physical needs, such as the need for water, others focus on financial needs, or emotional needs. These organizations work on international, national, and local levels to provide for those in need of assistance. There are many charities that do this. A couple of them are Water.org, American Red Cross, and National Abilities Center. WATER.ORG The world is in a time of need, and many people are living without basic survival necessities. There are many organizations and charities that help give a healthier life to these people. Since there are so many charities its hard to tell which one is the most beneficial and will use your donated funds wisely. Water.org is an international charity that focuses on delivering clean water and sanitation to those in poverty. They also offer many different ways to get involved, which I will discuss later in the paper. Water.org works internationally to provide people in poverty sanitation and clean water. The charity is currently at work in Honduras, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, India, Ghana, Haiti, and Bangladesh. Water.org provides wells or water hook ups for a family or an individual's home. There are many staff members that contribute to to the success of the charity. The staff members are also split into teams that handle the charity in that area ("Water.org,"). The staff doesn't just do everything though. Much of the proceeds come from the supporters donating. There are other ways to get involved besides donating. You can give a recurring gift of anything for the people... ... middle of paper ... .... They spend 83% on its programs and services, 10% on administrative expenses, and 7% to fundraising efforts. ("Charity Navigator," 2014) They are also very accountable. Almost no money is lost or put in the wrong places. Overall the National Abilities Center is a very good non-profit organization. It has very good programs and services. It has many ways to get involved which makes it easy for anyone who wants to. Finally it has very good financials. My only complaint is that the charity puts its financials in an easily accessible place on the website. Works Cited: American Red Cross. American Red Cross, (2014).Web. Many people have begun to question how they use the money they raise. About 81% of their funds are put towards their programs and services, while more reputable charities are usually
expenses. It takes a lot of fundraising to help and this event was one of the hundreds held
The reason is they are impacting globally. I will not deny that coming from a third world country which is the Philippines, has an impact on my decision to pick an international nonprofit organization. Sure enough, my country has benefited from these type of organizations. Save the Children is impacting not just in a small scale, they are making a difference to the world. Moreover, this organization was ranked 26th and rated 4 star among top 100 nonprofit organizations around the world. That alone did not convince me, I dug
When deciding on which non-profit organization to give resources to, a person must think of a number of questions that need to be answered in which to choose a certain one. The most pertinent of these questions is the one that asks which cause the person cares about the most. The problem, for a majority of the population, is that they just do not know what they truly care about. That is why the United Way is the best option for donations. The United way does not focus on one specific, but instead works for a variety of different causes focused on fixing some of the different problems inside of the United States. The United Way is an organization, which envisions a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives. It plans to do this by improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. The United Way needs money and time in order to achieve some of these goals. This essay will explain why the United Way is the best organization to give ones resources to.
Most people feel that they should help the needy in some way or another. The problem is how to help them. This problem generally arises when there is a person sitting on the side of the road in battered clothes with a cardboard sign asking for some form of help, almost always in the form of money. Yet something makes the giver uneasy. What will they do with this money? Do they need this money? Will it really help them? The truth of the matter is, it won't. However, there are things that can be done to help the needy. Giving money to a reliable foundation will help the helpless, something that transferring money from a pocket to a man's tin can will never do.
Thousands of books and essays about poverty, causes and possible fixes have been written for others to gain an understanding and pocket a little bit of knowledge so this can soon be fixed. There are millions of organizations in today’s world that beg for money, clothes, and food so they can be sent overseas to help a poor child in Uganda or Haiti. Helping nationwide is always a good thing to be a part of; however, there are many things that can be done in each person’s community, which is always a great place to start.
Water has become a very controversial issue in the United States and around the world. As populations increase and resources decrease, the way we use our resources and keep populations safe become more and more important. Throughout the world there are nearly 1.1 billion people who do not have access the clean drinking water. 5 Most of these 1.1 billion people are located in poor areas and do not have the financial means to build the infrastructures needed to provide water to the citizens of their country. 5 Drinking water is an essential part of our everyday life. People must have water to survive, but it must be clean and safe to consume.
There are 80 countries that have been suffering from a lack of clean water, and two billion people lack access to freshwater, especially South Africa (Alois). This area of countries is the driest in the world - Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt and so on. Like in the book A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, Nya, who lives in Sudan, has been lacking clean water. She has to find water every day for her family. Luckily, Nya got help from Salva who used to live in Sudan and came back from America to build the water system for her village. However, there are still many people around the world that have been suffering to find clean water for basic use. There are many factors that cause a lack of clean water around the world: geography of countries, deforestation,
Nonprofits serve multiple roles in improving the quality of life (The Philadelphia Foundation)They are created and put in certain communities for different reasons pertaining to each situation and enhance the environment in that way. Think about it, when you drive through a community with lots of homeless people, what do you automatically think? It’s poor community, right? Well I do, and you never want someone to think poorly of the place you liv...
Giving to others through humanitarian projects is not only inclusive of providing monetary solutions for food. Philosophies and intention to reach specific goals are also associated with the needs of others. The Hunger Project is designed with the central goal of eradicating poverty. However, it is found that this is not done only by feeding the poor, but instead through empowerment initiatives that allow others to change their lives. When looking at the approach used to The Hunger Project, it can be seen that the ability to provide empowerment to others will assist in changing lives through donations. The impact which is made by making a donation creates an initiative not only through the power of changing lives of those in need. It also alters the socio political landscape and the global society at large. This impact is one which can redefine the overall functions in the globe, specifically by eradicating poverty.
Water is pure and a transparent liquid that is vital for all humans, plants and animals on the planet. In the United States, people have access to clean drinking water and clean sanitation systems, not like in other parts of the world where clean safe drinking water is getting scarce. A lot of people don’t have access to it, and many regions are suffering severe drought. Yet, humans take it for granted, they don’t appreciate that a reliable clean supply of water is essential to human health, economy and agricultural prosperity. Having clean and safe potable water is a right and not a privilege. Some individuals don’t appreciate the advantage of having clean water available at
As of this year, nearly 1.1 billion people live without clean drinking water and 2.6 billion live without adequate water sanitation. The McDonald's down the street, however, will sell you a 1/3 pounder burger for only 150 gallons. Changes in lifestyle can easily reduce this number and help not only save water, but money as well. Currently, with our diminishing water supply, one of the main goals of humanitarian organizations is ensuring that everyone has the right and equality to water. With global access to water, it reduces the responsibility for political tension between countries fighting to literally stay alive.
Many people around the world need water. Around 780 million people are unable to get clean water (One Billion Affected). People who do have access to clean water in their homes, have to pay a fee. The people who struggle to live obviously do not have enough money to buy water. People who are unable to have clean water have a good chance of dying either from disease or from dehydration. At least 3.4 million people die a year from water problems such as sanitation (One Billion Affected).
In nonprofit organizations, the monetary support provided is not always directly related to the service provided, as patrons are not directly charged for services. So the success is measured by the quality of economically costed services.
