Music 110 Writing Assignment Many different musical periods have a very big influence on modern music. Throughout this paper one will realize that there were many different steps to getting to modern musics. There were also many different ways to go about doing this. Such as going through humanism, and creating different pieces.
So what is humanism? According to Music Then and Now Humanism is the study and learning related to knowledge about the world and about humankind, which gradually replaced the Medieval ideas of the system of theology, and philosophy. Humanism played a big role in the Renaissance period by changing the art and music from a religious aspect meaning God and the church, to more of a focus on the human Spirit and the natural world to become …show more content…

During these periods there were a wide variety of many different composers who all brought unique aspects to each period that they each were a part of. Some of them being Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Mendelssohn, and Schubert. Franz Schubert of these wrote Gretchen Am Spinnrade which features different aspects that display the Classical Period. These of which are harmony, form, and texture. Harmony is presented by having the spinning wheel move, as Gretchen sings. Creating an effect to be the soloist singing as her thoughts are progressing. This piece also used texture as a portion of what the Classical Period is mostly made of. The texture of this piece would be a lighter pattern than used in the Baroque Period. Not only does this texture have a lighter pattern, but it also has a less complicated background. Lastly Schubert uses form in this piece to refer to the structure of it. The form of Gretchen Am Spinnrade would be that it is about a woman who is broken hearted and her thoughts are a never ending spin wheel. When she sings her thoughts just flow out to be whatever she
