The human services model is basically simple compared to others types of models that are more complexed. It focuses on the “here and now” problems that needs to be resolved with an immediate solution. It doesn’t focus on past problems because nothing can be done to change what has already occurred. It perceived that the causes of the disorders might be due to unfilled human needs that needs to be rectified, such as the person’s environment or society. If the needs are not met, then the person would not be able to function on his or her optimal level. themselves. Another type of the behavioral model is the behavior therapy. Its main focus is relearning new positive behaviors through the “process of learning and conditioning” (Burger, 2017). The two of the conditions used are the classical conditioning and operant conditioning. In the classical conditioning, the person elicits certain reflex response to stimuli automatically without volunteering, while in operant condition, the person elicit certain response to stimuli by choice, non-automatic. It sort of creates a reward system that states, if one behaves well, they get some kind of rewards, but if one behaves bad the rewards would be deprived. Thus, the aim is for the person change certain unwanted behaviors, habits and thoughts. The change in behaviors would help the person to make better life choices and benefit from the rewards. The duration of the behavioral model is usually set for short term length. The humanistic model is a little complex compared to the human services model and behavioristic model. This model also focuses on the “here and now”, but its causes is blamed on animalistic drives and different circumstances that traps the person from freely expressing themselves and making the right decision that may lead them to self-actualization. The therapeutic approach is to get the person to feel more confident enough to explore different options that would help them to grow. Growth, whether through good or bad experiences mold the person into becoming their true self. The length of this treatment is not long or short, but in between. Although, the human services model, the humanistic model and the behavioral models all attempt to help people in the present, they all bring forth different approaches to the solution.
The human services model wants to help people by providing the necessary good and services to enhance individual’s lives. The humanistic model seek to help individuals by freeing themselves from the animalistic drive that they can’t help or control, and transforming them into their true-self, so that they would learn to grow with the different life experiences. Lastly, the behavioral model desires to make people conscientious of their thoughts and behaviors in order to make the necessary changes before taking actions.
