Human population growth is becoming a huge issue in our world today. The population is increasing rapidly. The reason that it is becoming a concern is because it has affected the economic, environmental, and social aspects of our world. In the film Frontline: Heat, we can see how there might not be a future for our planet unless we are able to reduce the emissions and make our world a safe place. Not only for the present but also for future generations so that they are able to live long and healthy lives.
An increase in human population can influence our economy. Some of the factors that are affected are unemployment, poverty and the restriction of economic expansion. When the population increases, the cost of health, education, and other areas of urban growth are affected. Unempl...
Among the fears of many environmentalists is that of overpopulation. Acutely aware of the finite resources that the planet possesses and the limitations of renewable resources, there are concerns that the planet may soon reach its maximum caring capacity. Since the First Great Transition ten thousand years ago, the planet has experienced an astounding increase in population. Generations later, the planet is beginning to feel the effects of continual population expansion. Over the years, numerous methods have been proposed or adopted to ensure that the Earth will not exhaust its resources. One of the most frightening adapted solutions was the eugenics movement.
The effects of population control programs on demographic change were not instant, and it takes long serious effort to encourage the improvement of economic development in a country. According to Paul J. Gertler (1994, p. 33), “Population control is a key element in a country’s ability to maintain and improve its economic and social welfare”. Furthermore, this paper intends to explain why the change of population structure has an effect on the society’s economic condition in Indonesia with examining the demographic variables.
Population growth affects the earth just as much as it does the people. With the population continuously growing at an alarming rate, earth can’t keep up with the resources needed to survive. Eventually we will run out of oil, land to build houses, and air. The reasoning behind running out of air is if the world is covered in houses, there is no room for trees – which supplies our oxygen. The factors effecting population growth are: fertility rates, life expectancy, migration, and death rates. More and more people are migrating to North America because of the high life expectancy, average fertility rates, low mortality rates, and of course, job opportunity. Even though population growth isn’t as high as it used to be, overpopulation can still
The Human Population By some, the human population is viewed as an environmental problem. There are also those who do not view it as a problem. In my opinion the human population is not yet, but is soon becoming a large problem. This is because very soon we will run out of room and resources for the amount of people who will be living on this planet. Because the world’s population is increasing at a rate between one and two percent, we expect it to double within the next 35 to 70 years.
Our world today has many issues that need dealing with. The issues of overpopulation, cultural conflict, and land use will not only effect us currently, but when not addressed, will most certainly effect us in the future. Therefore, we must undertake these challenges before us, in order to create a brighter and better future for us all.
Overpopulation Problems in China In spite of the great achievements that China has achieved in the recent years, our country is still a developing country, which is facing many serious social problems. The most serious of all is overpopulation, for it has a passive influence on the national economy, education and environment. First and foremost, overpopulation is the main obstacle to the economic development in China. The limited natural resources in China can hardly support the excessively large population.
With a current population of over twenty three million people, Australia is one of the most multicultural and diverse nation in the world. As such it is quite obvious that its population is expected to grow extensively in the coming years. A population is the total number of inhabitants of a certain area, in this case Australia’s population and its expansion over the next thirty four years. It is projected that by 2050, Australia will have a population roughly thirty five million people, this could be seen as problematic from both a social and economic stand point. As well as effecting a variety of living standards both material and non-material. Population growth can also result positively on these same areas, depending on how it is managed.
Human population growth was relatively slow for most of human history. Within the past 500 years, however, the advances made in the industrial, transportation, economic, medical, and agricultural revolutions have helped foster an exponential, "J-shaped" rise in human population (Southwick, Figure 15.1, p. 160). The statistics associated with this type of growth are particularly striking: "Human beings took more than 3 million years to reach a population of 1 billion people...The second billion came in only 130 years, the third billion in 30 years, the fourth billion in 15 years, the fifth billion in 12 years..." (Southwick, p. 159). As human population has grown, there has been simultaneous growth within the industrial sector. Both of these increases have greatly contributed to environmental problems, such as natural resource depletion, ecosystem destruction, and global climate change. Also linked with the increasing human population are many social problems, such as poverty and disease. These issues need to be addressed by policy makers in the near future in order to ensure the survival and sustainability of human life.
Urban population refers to people living in urban areas as defined by national statistical offices. It is calculated using World Bank population estimates and urban ratios from the United Nations World Urbanization Prospects. (Galor, Oded, and David N. Weil. 2000.) Develops a unified growth model that captures the historical evolution of population and technology producing output growth. This is thoroughly discussed in Appendix B.
Population growth in Australia has always been a controversial topic as the recent patterns of migration and fertility has tapped into range of public concerns. Most politicians want a more sustainable approach to population growth such as how the environment, urban infrastructure, and social cohesion would be affected by diverse population and how immigration would provide necessary skills shortages that could fuel economic growth and development. Government intervention to encourage a higher birth rate has only been marginally successful around the world, it has been found that it is very difficult to control people's fertility rate but it is only improved economic conditions that could control birthrate. The government also does not have
One of the problems facing our world is population. It began about ten thousand years ago when the humans settled and began farming. The farming provides more food for the people thus making the population grow. Now we are about 6 billion in population and in a few years we will be around 10 to 11 billion. Therefore, our population will almost double in size. This means that we will need more food to support us. A study in 1986 by Peter Vitonesk, a Stanford biologist, showed that the humans are already consuming about 38.8 of what is possible for us to eat. Thus, if the population keeps increasing, the percentage will increase also, making us closer and closer to the biophysical limits. By studying the earth's capacity, Dr. Cornell, another biologist, believes that we are already crowded for this would. He believes that our world can only support two million people. Not only this, but population can cause complicated problems to the countries with very high population. These countries will need more schools to educate its people, they will need more hospitals and public health to take care of their people, and they will need more water and more soil for farming to feed all the people. In order to solve the population growth problem, the people should be educated. Once the people are educated they will be aware of the problems they ca...
A general situation of urbanization trend in developing countries and developed countries is increasing. In 18th Century only 3% of the world total population lived in urban areas but as projected in 2000 this number will increase at above 50% (UN as cited in Elliot, 1999, p. 144). According to UN (as cited in Elliot, 1999, p.144), it is figured that the total urban population in developing countries has increased from approximately 400 millions people in 1950 to approximately 2000 millions people in 2000. At the same time, total urban population in developed countries is double...
Our world is too small for our ever-risingly growing population. One day, resources will run dry and vanish, which will bring death and loss to all nations on this planet. Many researchers and scientists have confirmed that the population will reach 10 billion by the end of the century and will continue to stream upward. There are many different ways of trying to decrease population, contain global warming and assist our environmental changes. The only way to succeed, families must be the regulators of their fertility and future.
The reduction of the Earth's resources has been closely linked to the rise in human population. For many thousands of years people lived in relative harmony with their surroundings. Population sizes were small, and life-supporting tools were simple. Most of the energy needed for work was provided by the worker and animals. Since about 1650, however, the human population has increased dramatically. The problems of overcrowding multiply as an ever-increasing number of people are added to the world's population each year.
For a long time, climate change has been a major issue. Something needs to be done. To many, especially researchers, climate change is a bad thing, not only for the environment but also to the humans living within it; however most might consider climate change is nothing but a natural climate shift. Global warming has caused a lot of changes that affect both wildlife and human activities. The effects are obvious and therefore, this brings out the question as to whether such changes are caused by human population. Some argue that these global warming solutions can be solved by saving gas and recycling. Human population has been an overlooked solution by many. No one wants to talk about this due to the debate on ways to reduce
