Questions About Human Nature Are We in Charge of Our Lives? Free Will VS. Determination. In this world, I believe that we are in control of our own lives. We are destined to grow and develop, sharing common goals. I strongly disagree with the perspective of Freud because I do not believe that we were out on this earth with driven forces such sex and aggression. Unlike Freud’s theory, I believe that we have control over ourselves, rather than our self-conscious minds. I have a tendency to agree with Adler’s theory most because he enlightens the dark gloom of Freud’s personal thoughts. Our Inherited Nature or Our Nurturing Environment? In theory, I feel that our emotions dominate our happiness and our overall reinforcements in life. Similar to Rotter’s theory, I believe that our self-reinforcements are dominated by our attitude and emotions throughout the process. If we believe we can make things happen, and believe in ourselves, we stand a greater chance of being successful. I agree with Rotter’s theory that if we believe in ourselves, we can push ourselves to be more productive and build our self-esteem. In life, those who fall short of confidence, often feel like they are not good enough. This type of feeling leads to poor behavior and lack of success. I believe that our overall production is dominated by our emotions, and our likelihood of being successful. On another note, I do agree with Jung’s theory, early childhood development affects our lifelong personalities. I believe those who lack affection as a child will spend their lives looking for that missing feeling that did not develop. My theory suggests, one’s emotions alter the effect of being optimistic or pessimistic. To add, when we develop a greater understanding of our outlook on life, we begin to see changes in our though process. When we are exposed to real life scenerios, we begin to see changes in our emotions. I believe that those who have lived a difficult life, are more likely to have a pessimistic view on life. On the other hand, those who live an easy less traumatic life tend to have a more optimistic view on their everyday life. Being pessimistic shows that you have been turned down, pushed away, neglected, and left aside. Being optimistic reveals that you have been sheltered, protected, awarded, and accepted. Pessimistic people generally have a negative view on themselves and their circumstances. Whereas, an optimistic person sees potential in themselves as well as others. It is easier to be optimistic when things are going your way, but it does not always mean that things will always be going good. Likewise, those who are pessimistic may feel in the norm when something goes wrong, but this does not mean that they won’t be excited if there is a change of fate.
