Obesity is the condition where the body fat exceeds the limit and leads to an effect on the health of the body. Obesity and overweight have in the last decade become a global problem. Did you know the United States of America has the highest rate of obesity in the world. So how much do you know about obesity? You should know how obesity is measured? Obesity is difficult to measure. The best measure we have is the BMI or Body Mass Index. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. The symptoms of obesity are, breathlessness or in other words unable to breathe properly. Because the people who are obese and overweight are very large, moving and walking around is very hard to them, so the fat people must breathe slowly. Another symptom of obesity is high blood pressure. High blood pressure is caused by the fats and load mass pressurize the arteries so it builds up resistance thus decreasing normal blood flow causes the heart to pump out more blood which causes high blood pressure. Diabetes is one of the of the causes that occur from obesity it can be destructive, also it may lead to death. Diabetes develops when glucose can’t enter the body cell which happens when there is not enough insulin. Many obese people have a joint problem that’s because of the extra weight on the joints. Sleep apnea or problems with sleeping that interrupts sleep by stopping breathe for brief period. Cancer is one of the symptoms or effects for the obese people. Men have higher risk than women of having colon and prostate cancers. Overweight people may also have psychosocial effects and depression. Experts believe if the current trends continue by 2015 approximately 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and more than 700 million will be obese. The scale of the obesity problem has a number of serious consequences for individuals and government health systems. Eight to 18-year old adults spend an average of 7.5 hours a day using entertainment media, including, TV, computers, video games, cell phones and movies, and only one-third of high school students get the recommended levels of physical activity. Many people do not realize how obesity can damage the body and for your overall health. Obesity and overweight is very bad and has bad effects on the human body and can lead to diseases that can't be cured and it may lead to death but there are treatments for it before reaching this level by exercising two to three times a week to not become obese.
Being overweight or obese are risk factors for many chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and … cancers.”
A child who is obese is automatically more likely to be exposed to a variety of health hazards throughout his or her life. It is estimated that “15 percent of children between six and nineteen suffer from obesity” (Lee and Sprague). A person who is deemed obese, is someone who has “a body fat percentage of more than 25 percent in boys and 32 percent in girls” (Lee and Sprague). Being severely overweight exposes you to more diseases than someone who is not overweight. Obese people “are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes . . . [from] being overweight” (Lee and Sprague). Some health issues, such as hypertension, heart attacks, and cancer can be obtained from being obese. There is also a great risk of “heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer and other chronic illnesses” when you are obese (“Hope”). high cholesterol as well as high blood pressure. Being obes...

Tom Harkin, US congressman from Iowa, says that obesity now contributes to the death of more than 360,000 Americans a year. The incidence of childhood obesity is now at epidemic levels. Alarm bells are going off all over the place, but our government has basically done nothing. The obesity rate has risen to epidemic proportions in the United States. Communities across the country, recognizing obesity as an issue of serious public health concern, are looking for innovative ways to halt the increasing rate of obesity (Davis 260). The rising prevalence of childhood and adult obesity can be explained in part by changes in our environment over the last 30 years; in particular, the unlimited supply of convenient, highly palatable and energy-dense foods, coupled with a lifestyle typified by low physical activity (Farooqui 5-7). Childhood obesity in America is a growing epidemic--because of advertisement of fast food, lack of physical activities, and parental control--that has lasting psychological effects.
Obesity causes up to 60% of all deaths globally which puts obesity fifth of the most leading risk for global deaths. Obesity is a disorder that is associated with having a very large amount of body fat. This is very hard to control because of environmental and genetic factors when dieting. Over the past three years, the number of people who are obese has tripled and is still rising. In 2016 there were 1.9 billion overweight people, with 650 million of those being obese.
Since the 1960?s obesity in America has more than tripled regardless of sex or race. Today 30.5 percent, or 69 million, American Adults are considered obese (?AOA Fact Sheets? np). In addition, 13 percent of children aged 6-11 years old are considered overweight, and well on their way to becoming obese. Obesity causes over 300,000 deaths a year and costs the country $117 billion dollars, prompting health care providers and the government to label it an epidemic (?Overweight and Obesity?? np).

Increasing ease of life, owing to reduced physical labor and automated transportation, an increasingly sedentary lifestyle, and liberal access to calorie-dense food, driven by dramatic economic growth in many parts of the world in the last century, have turned a once rare disease of the affluent into one of the most common diseases—increasingly of the poor. That barely one in three people in the USA today are normal weight portends, quite simply, an astounding and frightening future. Significant reductions in public health and healthcare expenditures could occur around the world if we were able to stem the tide of childhood obesity trends, and if young and middle-aged overweight and obese adults lost approximately 10% of their body weight, as recommended for a considerably reduced risk of debilitating chronic conditions (Hruby & Hu,

The invasion of technology has long been assumed to contribute to the large number of Americans who are considered overweight and do not get an adequate amount of daily physical activity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States has experienced a dramatic increase in the number of Americans who can be classified as obese. More than one-third of adults in the United States and approximately 17% of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are considered obese ("Obesity and Overweight," 2012). However, the number of unhealthy Americans is not the only thing rising.

Teens used technology consuming excessive amounts of exercise time throughout the day that caused the physical health problem of obesity. Teens were physically active throughout the day before technology was fully exposed to teens. According to the article, Obesity in Children and Technology, Cespedes (2013) stated “The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that approximately 10 percent of preschool age children and 15 percent of 6- to 19-year olds, can be considered overweight. In addition to eating more processed, high calorie foods, active play has been supplanted by technology” (para.4). Teens would take more time outdoors riding bikes, playing at the parks, walking with friends, and swimming at indoor pools that caused them to burn calories while having fun. Most of technology today was at a sedentary state that replaced many of the outdoor activities with teens playing sport video games, using their smartphones, and browsing the internet on the computer or tablets for coun...
