Dove is a personal care brand owned by Unilever. This company offers hair products, skin care, and deodorant. This company was introduced in 1955 and is sold all around the world. Dove’s racial transformation ad was released in October 2017, this ad was a 30 second T.V. commercial. The target audience in this ad was black women. This ad represented the strategies ethos, pathos, and logos in the ad.
The first strategy I noticed in this dove ad was pathos. The first person to appear in this dove commercial was a black woman. She was the target of the commercial. In this video the black woman turn’s white after using the dove body wash. This video caused a huge controversy because in society a white woman’s skin is held at a superior level and Black women are considered the underdogs. In this video the black woman’s skin was represented as “dirty”. Dove had to remove the ad because it caused a lot of controversy and people started to boycott their products.

In this video the company’s motto “Everybody is beautiful” wasn’t represented well. The company made it seem as white women are superior to black women. Also, the model featured in this ad wasn’t aware of the final commercial. She was made to believe that the all women are beautiful, and she was proud to represent the black community. This company has made a grave mistake by releasing this commercial that will take some time to come back from, if ever. The communication of this ad should have clearly been thought out more. Clearly, using a white celebrity such as Kendall Jenner was not a good idea. Through -out the entire advertisement, it demonstrated the beauty and skill sets. Instead of using a white person to be the main source of the commercial, it would have been more received if using someone that clearly understood and made it clear what the black lives matter movement was all about. Advertisements are all over the place. Whether they are on TV, radio, or in a magazine, there is no way that you can escape them. They all have their target audience who they have specifically designed the ad for. And of course they are selling their product. This is a multi billion dollar industry and the advertiser’s study all the ways that they can attract the person’s attention. One way that is used the most and is in some ways very controversial is use of sex to sell products. For me to analyze this advertisement I used the rhetorical triangle, as well as ethos, pathos, and logos.
This is a compare and contrast rhetorical analysis paper focusing on a print billboard advertisement and television commercial. The billboard advertisement is centered on a smoking death count, sponsored by several heart research associations. In addition, the television Super Bowl commercial illustrates how irresistible Doritos are, set in an ultrasound room with a couple and their unborn child. The following paragraphs will go in depth to interpret the pathos, logos, and ethos of both the billboard and the television advertisements.

Samsung is focused in manufacturing all types’ cutting-edge devices with a particular emphasis on smartphones. It is arguably, the leading smartphone manufacturer in the contemporary society. Cheil, a Chinese advertising company based in Beijing China prepared the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Snowfield advert and published it in October 2011. The advertisement is a creative play of the idea that the Samsung Xcover device is so high-tech, that it will be the ultimate guide to the user even in destinations that they have never visited. In their words, ‘Just like you have been there.’
Companies have rhetoric in their advertisements. The goal is to persuade a watcher or listener into believing that their brand of a certain product is the best. This in turn will make people want to buy the product. When it comes to advertising for a product, the majority of people see it as a concept that is both simple and harmless. As Chidester points out, through the eyes of popular culture as religion, the product associated with the advertisement is considered to be a fetishized object.

The advert is for a new product called ‘WOMAN’ that they are adding to their line of fragrances. The first thing that is noticed about this advert is the colour. It is very contrasting with the black and white, and gives a big impact to the audience. The white usually signifies innocence but with the black background it’s suggesting hidden depths, like a wild side that you could have. The model’s look is very confident, like she can get
The most recent ad to come out of the campaign is the “Dove Real Beauty Sketches” video. In the clip women are asked to describe what they look like to a forensic artist while he sketches them. A second sketch was done of the same women by having an acquaintance describe their features . Towards the end, the women are shown the two sketches side by side and in each case the self-described sketch was less attractive than the one where they were described by someone else. The video ended with “You are more beautiful then you think”. There are many things wrong with the video. First of all, the sample size does not match the population correctly. It mainly focuses on fairly young, white women who could be seen as traditionally attractive. In fact, out of the whole 6:36 minutes of the clip, people of colour were only shown for 10 seconds. Furthermore, the video only focuses on the beauty of the women. The ad actually promotes the importance of beauty. Instead of having the people judge each other on their exterior, they should be judging them on their personality.
