Scientists have been researching for centuries to determine the Earth’s age, many naturalists debate on how old the Earth is yet it still remains a mystery. Geologist have research and analyze many theories but is still unsure, leaving a question of how long has the Earth been around? In 1860, John Phillips a geologist, used the idea of sedimentation to determine how old the Earth is. As rocks deteriorated throughout the years geologists measured the lower lying areas, like valleys, rivers, and oceans to determine the age of the Earth through the thickness of sedimentary deposit. Scientist calculated the forming of each layer and the rate of how quickly the sedimentary would thicken over a period of time, after researching Geologist came to
Charles Lyell Charles Lyell was a British lawyer and one of the smartest geologists known at his time. He was known as the author of the Principles of Geology, which helped popularize the theories and concepts of uniformitarianism. The Principles of Geology was the first book written by Lyell and explained the changes in the earth’s surface. He used the research and information in the book as his proof to determine that the earth was over 6,000 years old. The central argument in his book was “the present is the key to the past”, this meant that to find out what happened in the past you had to look at what was happening now.
The process of Radiocarbon Dating (allowing them to pinpoint just about how many years
The cycles of the ocean waters rising (transgressing) and receding (regressing) are known as transgressive-regressive cycles. The mid- to Upper Cretaceous rocks in the Big Bend area of southwest Texas encompasses rock ages from approximately 70 to 100 million years ago (mya). During this time the sea transgressed and regressed a number of times. The final regression of the Cretaceous sea occurred about 70 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous period, at the time of the Aguja Formation deposition. By observing the transgressive and regressive cycles of the Mid to Upper Cretaceous period a reasonable prediction of ocean depth over time can be made. Fossil data from the mid to Upper Cretaceous period predicts the sequence of rock strata in Big Bend National Park to be from bottom to top: limestone (containing clams, oysters, and ammonites), shale and clay (containing shellfish and marine reptile bones), limestone again, and sandstone and clay (both containing fossil wood and dinosaur bones) (Maxwell, 1967). Assuming that the rocks on the bottom are the earliest layer, it may be concluded that the earliest layer of rock was deposited in a relatively deep marine environment, then the ocean regressed to produce the next layer, then transgressed to produce the last.
Mother earth has gone through a lot of changes throughout its four and a half billion-year existence. Earth has seen many different climates and many different species. Because of these changes geologists have broken earths history into different time periods. One such time period was the Pennsylvanian time period. The Pennsylvanian time period is a subdivision of the Carboniferous period. The Pennsylvanian period saw the introduction of many different species that are still present today along with a very different climate and different geographical features than are present today.
Mark Driscoll, the Pastor at Mars Hill, discusses six different views in his article, “What are the Various Views on Creation?” They are Historic and Young-Earth Creationism, the Gap Theory, the Literary Framework View, the Day-Age View and the Theistic Evolution. In each of these views, Driscoll discusses the age of the earth and the amount of time it took God to create the earth. I believe the Historic Creationism is more scriptural. Genesis 1:1 is self-explanatory when it states, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”. There was no time frame listed.

One of the first major pillars of the evolution theory that falls away under close scrutiny is the concept of an 'old earth.' Because the evolutionary process needs millions and millions of years in order to take place, evolutionists declare that the earth must have existed for 4 to 5 billion years. However, with all things considered, this theory is simply impossible. Three astronomic facts disprove it almost immediately: the recession rate of the moon, the dissipation of the earth's magnetic field, and earth's rotation rate.
Scientists have also found something as a result of our travels to the moon. They have noticed that the moon collects dust from outer space. They have found the rate at which the dust accumulates on the moon. So they now can tell that the moon is relatively young, because if it were billions of years old there would be a lot more dust on the moon than there is right now. Evolutionists have slipped up and said that the earth and moon are about the same age. So this pushes them into a corner once again. Creation three, Evolution zero.
The first lady I interviewed say the earth is 6,000 years old because the genealogies given in the Bible and the time frame since the global flood. The second lady was unsure because she has never researched the age of the earth and never considered it necessary to think about age of the earth. The man I interviewed was my 9th grade science teacher and he said that the earth is about 10,000 years old because of genealogies written in the Bible. Stars are millions of light year away and thus it would take millions of years for the light to reach earth. Thus, evolutionist believe that the earth is millions of years old because light is reaching earth. However, this theory falls through when we realize that the speed of light may not be constant so we must consider time dilation to be a factor and light speed up the closer to gravity it becomes. Creationist also believes that the decay rate of rocks have increased over time so radiometric dating of fossil is not accurate. Based on radiometric dating, Carbon 14 is 300 million years old and should be extinct, but carbon 14 is found in diamonds. The evidence to support an old earth creation is inconsistent. I would tell the lady that was unsure the age of the earth that scripture should inform our interpretation of scientific evidence not the other way around. Christians must stand firm on the authority of the Bible or scripture will fall through. Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day meaning the earth was created 144 hours before God created Adam and Eve. This proves the young earth interpretation of creation and the age of the earth is about 6,000 years old tracing all the way back to Adam and
In the novel, The Age of Miracles, the main conflict that arises is the slowing of the rotation of the Earth. We personally have had several questions about what could cause such a problem and how it could be resolved. We found lots of intriguing information about the research that has already been done. From a STEM standpoint, there are several different challenges that would arise if the Earth's rotation began to slow, as well as exploring what is possible regarding the rotation of the Earth. Our first question was, “What could cause the Earth to slow?”
It is impossible to predict a disaster. This argument is not valid because not every animal acts differently, but that could just be different mindsets. Or other reasons that people came up with. Before the Sichuan earthquake in China, there were reports of peculiar phenomena. About three weeks before the earthquake, large amounts of water suddenly vanished from a pond in Enshi in east-central China, about 350 miles east of the earthquake's epicenter. Another odd incident, which occurred just three days before the earthquake, involved thousands of toads roaming the streets of Mianzhu, a city that was among the hardest-hit by the quake. Mianzhu residents had feared the pandemonium was a sign of an approaching natural disaster, but a local forestry
Mankind’s origin is from God through creation. The Bible tells us in Genesis chapter 1 verse 27; So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him: male and female created He them. The Bible also says in Genesis chapter 2 verse 7, And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Radiocarbon dating is used to tell how old something is. When some normal carbon gets hit by the rays of the sun it turns into carbon 14. Plants absorb this radioactive carbon in the form of carbon dioxide. Animals receive this carbon from eating the plants. When the organism is dead it loses the carbon 14. Scientists can tell how old something is based on the amount of carbon 14 in a dead object. Carbon dating is accurate if the amount of carbon 14 in the atmosphere has remained the same throughout time. The second is if carbon 14 has always decayed at the same
What is the evidence for our knowledge of the internal structure of the Earth? As we enter the twenty first century we are beginning to learn more and more about the composition of the Earth. Early predictions have thrown up some rather strange and peculiar thoughts as to what is making up our Earth, but now day¡¦s scientists can be confident that the Earth is made up of what they think. As from experiments and other sources of information a picture to what is really down there is becoming much clearer. So how do these scientists know that the Earth¡¦s sections are made up of different compositions, and how do we know that the physical state of each layer is what it is?The outmost layer of the Earth is the crust, this is what we stand on and covers the earth entirely. It is made up of many different rocks and minerals, we know that the composition of the Earth¡¦s crust is generally the same due to the mines and boreholes that humans have made down into it. Mines that have been dug go down and still bring up valuable minerals that can be found just as close to the Earth¡¦s surface.
Earth Hour is an annual international event, organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). This event actually asked us to think about what else we could be doing to make a difference to save our Earth. Countries that participate will switch off their lights for one hour to display a universal commitment to protect the one thing that unites us the entire planet. Unfortunately, most of us do not notice that this campaign will bring side effects, if we as a citizen participate in this campaign in a wrong way. Hence, the campaigns of Earth Hour has innumerable uses and like all campaigns, it has its drawbacks which encompass negative impact on human activities, enhancing energy reduction as well as releasing emission to the environment and perception of people about Earth Hour.
