Soccer has positively impacted my life by giving me a constant source of joy and growth. Through the many years I have played soccer I have gained invaluable skills such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Soccer has introduced me to some of my closest friends, it is more than a sport, it’s a brotherhood. Soccer has shaped me both on and off the field, instilling values and memory’s I will hold forever. I believe soccer has brought me closer to the community, not only from playing but also from coaching and refereeing. I have helped out at youth soccer camps multiple times, giving me the chance to engage in the community and grow closer to those in the community. My career goals involve joining the Air Force after graduating college and serving in the engineering corps, leveraging my degree in mechanical engineering. After …show more content…
Throughout high school, I have consistently maintained a position in the top 1%, earned the prestigious Heisman scholarship for Leavenworth Senior High School, and received the Kansas Governor Scholars Award. I’ve been involved with numerous clubs and taking challenging classes, giving me exposure to leadership skills and the education needed to face any future endeavors. This scholarship will significantly impact my ability to attend college by providing financial assistance to cover tuition and other educational expenses and help me achieve my goals. This scholarship is a vital resource; receiving it would be an extreme honor. I am humbled to be considered for this. It allows me to focus more on my studies because I intend to participate in athletics and ROTC in college. Overall, receiving this scholarship will significantly improve my ability to balance the demands of school and ROTC and enhance my overall college experience, which is commonly known to be stressful and
Many things have helped to shape my identity to make me the person I am. The most influential thing that has shaped me is my culture. One of the biggest pieces of my culture that has done this is my participation in sports. Out of the sports I play, high school soccer has shaped me the most. Soccer in high school shaped my identity by making me more social, a leader, and open minded about diversity.
I started playing soccer when I was four years old. At the time I had a lot of problems. To name a few, I was bad at working with others, I was a sore loser, and I did not handle pain or disappointment well. When I started to play soccer I had a low self esteem and was terribly shy. Going up and talking to people was not on my list of things to do. This made it pretty hard for me to fit in with all the other kids and make friends. It was hard to enjoy playing soccer when I felt as though I had no friends on the team. My parents noticed my dislike in the sport, but urged me to keep playing anyway.
After four years of a new team every season, I went into my first practice of my fifth soccer season expecting the same to be true. Play on this team for one year and then be randomly placed on a different one the following year. Little did I know this team, especially the coaches, would leave a lasting impact on my life. I gained an invaluable support system that has stuck by my side for an upwards of nine years.
I played soccer since I was seven, as of the last few years I played at a very high level. I have represented Ohio South two times at a regional showcase, I have been invited to participate in a camp in Manchester, England and attended the camp twice. Also last Season for the Newark High School soccer team I was named first team all league and third team all central district. Soccer was the first sport I truly loved to do, I wanted to be the best. I work hours upon hours to master whatever part of the game I wanted to improve on. Soccer has taught me to have a great work ethic, and that mentality came when I was cut from the state team the first time I tried out. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, I was destroyed, and I thought I was not good but I knew I could do better. The next year I worked, I got bigger, stronger, faster, my soccer I.Q. was higher;therefore, overall I was a much better player. The result of that work, was that I made the team, but not only, I made the starting line up. After that I knew I could accomplish anything I put my mind to.
Soccer is my passion, I love soccer with all my heart. But, I remember when I used to suck at it. I remember the first time I went to go try out for a club team, I wanted to quit playing right after that practice. Everyone was so good at the sport and I didn’t have any experience. But, I kept trying and I got better and better. I finally went to a team that was more my level, and we’ve all grown up together as a very strong team. I’m glad I kept going with soccer, it’s such a fun sport to play. My biggest dream is to get looked at by a college and get a scholarship in soccer. But, for that to happen, I have to work really hard for my goal to play in college. My last symbol is a paint brush. I love to draw, even though I’m not the best at it I still practice to get better at it. I also love looking at art because it’s so beautiful. What I love about art is that it tells a story and you have to figure out what that story is.
One incident that happened to me that change how I thought about sports was when I first started playing soccer. It all started when my mom said that I should join a sport to get me more active. It took me awhile to choose soccer at first because there were so many sports to choose from. I told my mom I wanted to play soccer. She signed me up to play for a non competitive league (GYSA) so I can learn the basics of the sport. She also told me to play I would have to maintain good grades. After hearing that i always tried my best in soccer and school.
Do you have that certain something that has affected your life for better? Football is that thing for me. I have played it as long as I could walk. I still remember the time when I was very little and my dad would take me to the front yard and we would play catch and talk about football for hours. I have enjoyed football in three big parts of life: Pee Wee, Junior High, and High school.
Everyone has life experiences. Some can be new and fun, like the first time ever going to Disney World as a child. Meeting your favorite movie characters and seeing stories come to life. Other can be tragic, like losing a loved one or suffering a car crash. No matter the experience we all learn from them. I am here to tell you about an experience of mine that I went through at an early age. At the age of 15, I told my parents that I wanted to play football. The sport of football really changed my view on life and taught me that things don’t come easy and that if you really want something, you’re going to have to put in the time and work. One of the many experiences of being in the sport of football is that practice is one of the toughest things I’ve ever went through, physically and mentally. Football taught me a lot about team work and working with others on doing and executing a job. Football made me faster stronger smarter and wiser. I had great coaches who always encouraged me to keep going whenever I wanted to quit because something was too hard or I was feeling
I have been a part of Huntington North High School Football program all 4 years of my high school career. I am not claiming that I am better then any of my teammates or friends I gained through football, or that I have skills that make me more suitable for this scholarship. During my high school career I have maintained an excellent GPA, participated in several extracurricular activities, done volunteer work, and worked a part-time job. I feel like all of this qualifies me for this scholarship but it doesn’t set me apart from my teammates because we were all a great group of guys that were part of great programs. I feel that what make’s me stand out to receive this scholarship is my strong work ethic and my passion to attend Trine University
While playing soccer through the years, I have learned the importance of being a team player, a leader, and to think outside the box.
Have you ever been a part of a sports team and realized how greatly it has really impacted your life? If you have, you realize that being in a sport takes a lot of initiative, commitment, and teamwork skills. Throughout my high school career here at Sturgis High School, I have been a part of the varsity basketball, varsity softball, and varsity track teams. When you decide to commit your life to being a student athlete, it comes with a lot of ups and downs. Being a part of all the teams I have been a part of has made me grow into who I am now.
Over the past years, I knew that the cost of attending a good college was going to place financial stress on me and my family. One of the ways I could help offset those costs were to achieve success in the classroom and on the baseball field. I understand the importance of keeping my GPA as high as possible and having a good ACT score. Volunteering in the community and becoming a strong leader and role model the past four years has been a top priority for me. I hope my experiences and achievements will help qualify me top scholarships. I have also tried to excel in my sport in hopes to qualify for additional scholarships. Once in college, I will be enrolled in work study and intern programs so that I am more marketable when I graduate. I do
My life has not been as difficult as others, but effortless is not a word to describe my life. There have been a fair amount of people that have influenced me and my life choices, but sports have had the biggest impact. Sports have had a significant influence on my life because they taught me how to build relationships, be hardworking, and even helped me choose my career path. Soccer has taught me how to build relationships and influenced my character. I have been playing soccer since the age of four.
Going into 9th grade I was just like any other eighth grader and I was still trying to figure out who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do with my life and in school. That summer before ninth grade I thought long and hard whether or not I would play football in ninth grade, I had played the year previously, but I had not really found a sure position that I played and I was unsure whether I was cut out for football or not. The week before summer camp, I decided that I would give it a try and I fell in love with the sport and the coaching staff at State College Area High School, the coaches cared just as much about our school and our character as how well we played football, and they taught me how to act as a young man and to properly represent
I would be lying if I said entering high school I was awaiting all the exciting opportunities in front of me. In reality, I had zero interest in what high school or my community had to offer. In fact, I fought my parents for not joining high school soccer, despite my involvement in soccer since I was four years old. Obviously, I lost this fight, and this year I spent my spring afternoons, after online school, on the hot turf field. This marked the start of my high school involvement.
