As described by Ross (2013), people tend to spend time more time with their mobile phones, including a social media application these days rather than sending direct email or text messages. It seems that social media like Snapchat provides a fun-basis of communication medium. Beside that, Snapchat does not only changes the way personal users communicate, Snapchat can be used also for businesses to market its products. Sexting is sending a nude photographs of themselves to another users over the social media application platforms (Haugh 2014). Furthermore, Snapchat is a good platform for users to do sexting if they use it inappropriately, because snapchat doesn’t have a filter to those nude photos directly from the server. As described by Growth in Snapchat use Sparks Cyberbullying and Sexting Fears (2014), Sexting is a very threatening practice, and unlawful where youngsters are worried as it consist the production and appropriation of child phornography or even sex. Some readers may be asking questions, Why is it called a sexting if there is a time limit in Snapchat for viewing the picture/videos sent by a sexting Snapchat users? The answer is Snapchat provides screenshot to the users, so users can save other users snap permanently. It is so dangerous because it may affect to the pornography law. Adult people who use Snacphat for sexting has a knowledge already or may do it in purpose. However, children who use Snapchat , may directly sent a nude photograph or sexting snap from unidentified users may end up a serious problem for youth. The actual prevention of youngsters taking part in Snapchat sexting is not clear. This may be a direct result of the general conduct, the quick advances in innovative technology , and the absence of a reasonable definition that
The appreciation that they receive form others has made them more confident. In the article “Why Your Kids Love Snapchat, and Why You Should Let Them” by Rachel Simmons, it states that there is very little audience participation. In particular, there is no “like” or “heart’’ button which means that there is no way for others judge and measure our value. There was also a study that was conducted about how Snapchat may have a correlation with self-esteem. This experiment was conducted by a biological social linguistic psychologist Fem I. Nine at the University of Pennsylvania. Nine found that there were strong connections between the application Snapchat and teens self-esteem. They had over three hundred participants from middle schools, high schools, and colleges. One particular participate went into a deeper response and said, “I really feel like each one is a piece of art…that lasts for 6 seconds.” This statement implies that teens feel good about themselves when they post on Snapchat because they have taken the time to perfect the picture that they are going to
Schools and programs can have assemblies and discuss the intent of people who sext and the consequences of sexting, whether they are minor or severe. The severe consequences of sexting or posting sexually explicit photos online can be psychologically damaging (ex. emotional trauma to the subject of the photo), especially if the distribution of the photo ends up in the wrong hands, or to an unintended audience. It is known that there is a "social disapproval over sexting, which causes many teens to not report such incidents (Terry, 2013, p. 153). Therefore we cannot be sure of how widespread the act of sexting is, in an accurate manner. Findings vary among researchers regarding the actual frequency of sexting as can be seen in numerous
Sexting is defined as the sending of sexually explicit photos, images, text messages, or e-mails by using a cell phone or other mobile device [1]. It is common for people to send out or receive explicit images, especially in young teenagers. When young people share these photos they are often unaware of the legal implications that go with it. Young people are oblivious that serious legal action could be taken, as they are underage. It not only affects the person that sends it out, but also everyone who receives the image. As discussed in the lecture, the law regarding sexting varies in each state, however explicit images of young people could be seen as child pornography and the people involved could possibly be
It’s in the news, its on social media, and its on cell phones. “Sexting” is just one way that many people engage in sexual activity. Sexting is sending and/or receiving sexually explicit photos through messages on their cell phone or through social media. Many Americans today, especially teenagers, are familiar with sexting, however, may not be familiar with the psychology behind sexting; why do we want to do it, what does it makes us feel, and what are the consequences of sexting. Anywhere from 20 to 30 percent of American teenagers actively engage in sexting today.
However some people believe that you should never use snapchat or an form of social media, that it is “bad for your health” which I don’t believe is true. Snapchat can get information out to the world like a day after the floridia they were talking about how to end shootings in schools. The Snap. Inc. also became way more popular when they released Snapchat.
Sexting is an issue that many people are still unclear on. Sexting is the exchanging of nude or seminude pictures or videos by cell phones (Hewitt and Driscoll). These media files can be exchanged by teens as young as 11 to married adults in their 40s. Sexting can hold serious consequences, such as being charged with child pornography, having to register in the sex offenders list, and even facing jail time (Hewitt and Driscoll). Even after knowing the gravity of the consequences, people continue to sext. The reason behind this phenomenon is still a mystery. Some believe that some individuals want to sext in order to gain the attention that they aren’t getting from significant other. A woman who had participated in sexting even claimed that a man she sexted with made her feel wanted (Tapper). The same article states that men believe “if you get a woman to send you a naked picture, you’re cool. It’s an ego boost.” Although many know sexting can be a crime, many individuals who sext do i...
The invention of Snap Chat was literally an accident; two measly college students got bored and that’s why they invented Snap Chat. This app has revolutionized photo taking to a whole new level. In this paper I will talk about, who invented Snap Chat, how Snap Chat became popular, why teens use it and how Snap Chat influenced our culture.
Sexting has negative outcomes such as “making someone feel dirty or ashamed” for what they sent (Dir and Clyde). Females report more negative outcome experiences associated with sexting (Dir and Clyde). Females experience more negative outcomes because in most cases the females are the senders. Sending obscene messages can make farfetched desires of a sexual partner (Hertlein 8). One partner’s self-esteem may be affected after the partner realizes the other partner has a set image of them and cannot think of nothing but the sexy picture that was sent. The partner will begin to think “why does he or she only like the freaky side?” Sexting is a risk that is not worth taking. In many cases, when someone’s nudes get exposed the person usually try to commit suicide. Someone’s life is not worth losing over a nude. Risking someone’s life over sexting is ridiculous, couples should try a smarter
Sexting can be referred to as sexual content communicated through text messages, smart phones, or visual and web 2.0 activities such as social networking sites. It has been defined as the ‘exchange of sexual messages or images’ (Livingstone et al., 2011) and ‘the creating, sharing and forwarding of sexually suggestive nude or nearly nude images’ (Lenhart, 2009) through mobile phones and/or the internet. There are many factors associated with sexting. This includes that fact that it is coercive, this means that sexting does not refer to a single activity but rather to a range of activities which may be motivated by sexual pleasure but are often linked to harassment, bullying and even violence. (Ringrose, Gill, Livingstone and Harvey, 2012, pp 7).
Sexting has many personal consequences, it’s not always about the law. It can take a toll on the person, especially if it backfired or if the photo gets in the wrong hand. Teens don't realize that is wrong for what they are doing, they think they’ll never get caught. Sometimes it can lead to bullying for the teen who was
...y, but at the same time those receiving the image have the ability to screenshot (the act of taking a picture from one’s phone screen), and keep or share that image with others. Sexting in general is a problem that many teens face, and with the use of Snapchat as a form of social netoworking the problem seems to be only growing in severity (Bromfield, 2013).
Social media is an outlet that allows a company to introduce new products, control the speed of how they want to introduce their products and free advertisement. Sending out a tweet or putting up a status would let your customers know about a product that is released. This benefits companies because they spend less money on televised commercials, which takes more time to produce and will not reach as many generations that it could by using social media. Any social media site is free, and it takes less than 10 seconds to put out a post on any website. Facebook has also launched Facebook advertisements, which assist advertisers by showing advertisements to a user based on demographic factors, such as location, age, or gender, and which can further engage the audience by incorporating social context into advertisements, such as displaying when someone’s friend has liked an advertiser’s Facebook page (Li, Lin, & Chiu, Fall2014) . There is nearly 100 million daily active snapchatters and growing. Teenagers are constantly on their phones checking their pages so there is no way they will not know about the product being released. Marketers can discover potential customers for market positioning by filtering the content that online users mention or discuss (Li, Lin, & Chiu,
