Humans and technology. When looking at the past century, this concept has evolved at an extremely rapid pace. Human interaction has taken a "backseat" to most modern technology. It is highly unlikely that human interaction while completely be "phased out". However, if we continue at this constant human interaction rate decline, many questions are raised: How will this affect future generations? Technology surrounds us in more ways than we are aware of. It completes more tasks, and does things automatically that we often take for granted. Because of technology, we can now explore different aspects of sociology that we could not before. Additionally, there are entirely new situations that did not exist prior to the abundance of technology. The increase of technological processes, such as automated bill paying, or even online shopping, has changed our society. Sociological Theory In my opinion, there is no single sociological theory that is applicable to, "Technology is Destroying Our Inner Lives", and, technology as a whole. There are different aspects of technology that are applicable to different sociological theories. Symbolic Interactionism Most communications via the internet and other indirect methods, rely upon Symbolic Interactionism. Without symbolic interactionism, humans would not take any implied message from communications.
