How Does Reading Less Make Children Smarter

NEW YORK-- Many teachers across the nation agree that reading less makes kids smarter. When reading was considered “cool,” the average student would read over 954,601 words per day. Now that reading is highly discouraged the numbers have significantly dropped to a shockingly low 37 words! Test scores from the state of New York show many children sixth in grade and up have received higher test scores by only reading 37 words or less a day. Students who read more than 37 words a day got lower test scores and did not pass any of their classes. Because students no longer read 954,601 words per day and now only read 37 words, students have more time to focus on important things such as binge- watching Netflix more often. Netflix founder Marc Hastings tells us in an interview, “Ever since people have been reading less, our sales have skyrocketed through the roof! Over the last 43 days, we have made gained over 777,000 more users and earned over one million dollars!” …show more content…

Angelina, a very self-involved 7th grader from New York Middle School states in a very pretentiously, “I do not read because I wanna pass my classes. I have a 4.1 GPA which, by the way, is the highest GPA ever to be received! I have gotten 177% on all of my tests which is nearly impossible to do!” In a statement from Angelina’s parents, they state, “Not reading has made our daughter, Angelina, super smart! Unlike our other daughter who reads all the time.
