I will be focusing on the effects that poverty have on a child and young person’s development. Personally I believe that the two key issues which affect children and young people’s development as a result of poverty are their education and social development. I believe that the children’s education and social development are most affected because I read an article which informed me that children who are aged three and under and living in poverty are estimated to be nine months behind children who are from a more wealthy background in their education and development. By the time children living in poverty turn three years old they are estimated to be around nine months behind from children living in a more wealthy area. I believe that a child who lives in poverty will have their education affected as a result of their low self-esteem, lack of equipment and resources, and not much support coming from their family. “Children from poorer backgrounds lag at all stages of education”. On the other hand, some people may believe that the most important key issues to consider with children living in poverty are their health and strategies to support the families. These are also both good key issues which will be effected as a result of child poverty but I still believe that the key issues being the children’s education and social development are more effected. There are both strengths and weaknesses of the key issues I have chosen. The strengths of the key issues effected by poverty being the children’s social development and also their education are that practitioners are made more aware of how to help the children in these situation. The practitioners are encourage to support the children and to encourage them to do their best and to reach all of their goals. Also schools can provide children who are behind on their education with catch up
