How Does Jesus Use Parables In Luke 14

In Luke 15:1-32, Jesus uses 3 examples known as parables, to explain to the Pharisees and teachers who were judging Jesus when He was eating with sinners that when a sinner comes to Christ it is deserving of a celebration. The three parables Jesus uses are the Parable of the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin, and the Lost Son. Jesus explains that when we lose something physical and then find it, we celebrate the return of that lost item. He explains to the Pharisees, “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them… when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home” (Luke 15:4-6). In addition to this Jesus says, “suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one...” and when she finds it she calls her neighbors and friends and says, “Rejoice with me” (8-9). …show more content…

Lastly, Jesus uses the Parable of the Lost Son to make an accurate representation of what it means for a sinner to find Jesus. In Luke chapter 15:11-32, Jesus tells the parable of a father whose son left after receiving money from him. The son “got together all he had, set off for a distant country” (13) and began to live irresponsibly. Quickly the son spent all of his money and then had nothing left of what his father had given him. He began to work and realized after that his father deserved an apology. The son then said, “I am no longer worthy to be called your son” (19) and the father replied, “this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found” (24). Very similar to the examples that Jesus’ uses, the son was lost, but he realized that he was lost and needed his father. Forgiveness is not earned or deserved, but Jesus grants us with it because He loves us
