Born into a family of established artists, Dimitra has been developing her style and ability at the Milan Art Institute in Arizona, founded by her parents, Elli and John Milan. The artist started homeschooling so she could dedicate her free time to improving and exploring her creative passion. She graduated early at age of 16 and spends 50 hours a week painting with oil mediums and other contemporary mixed media. Her original artwork can be found in art galleries in the U.S. and Europe. She has sold about 200 paintings ranging from $6,000 to $15,000 apiece and regularly donates her paintings to non-profit organizations that advocate against human trafficking, as well as charities such as Comfy Cozy's for Chemo, Anasazi, and Cardon Children's Hospital. Loosely fitting into the category of abstract surrealism. A majority of her paintings depict animals accompanying women in an environment of nature/as nature. I think of each animal more as a symbol, rather than just the animal itself. Her paintings reflect a dreamy world that embrace beauty, inspiration, and imagination. Maybe her paintings reflect her current state or where she’s at in her life.
I’m drawn to her art because I haven’t seen anything similar. Dimitra’s art has these animals that we depict as dangerous but, they look as sensitive as the women do. Her art has a dreamy, imaginative and feminine concept to it. It’s simultaneously complicated and simplistic like women. Having her artwork being solely surrounded around women makes me feel confident, bold, and fearless. Her pieces make me strive to be better because a dream starts out with something that can be obtained realistically and I can do anything I set mind to.
