How Do Katniss Make Tough Decisions

Growing up I learned that in life, a person always comes across a point where he or she has to make a tough decision or a sacrifice. That sacrifice could be for his/her happiness, someone else, or almost anything in the world. In the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Katniss, the narrator, goes through a journey in her life where she had to make tough decisions and sacrifices. While reading about some of Katniss’s decisions, I could relate to the way she was feeling and why she had to make these choices. Family or people that are close like family, are usually the main reason for a person to make a tough decision or a sacrifice. When I was 10 years old, I remember my sister and I breaking our dad’s favorite camera. I told her to throw me the camera from across the room and I was going to catch it. This was Prim’s first time ever being eligible to participate in these games. Both Katniss and Prim were scared for themselves, but were also even more scared for each other. Katniss knew she had to be the big sister and try not to show her fear on her face. Everybody from all the other districts came together for the starting of the games. The game starts with the mayor at the podium explaining the game and the rules of it. The drawing starts and Prim was one of the people selected to participate in the game. According to the book, Katniss handled hearing that like everyone expected “trying to remember how to breathe, unable to speak, totally stunned as the name bounces around the inside of my skull” (p.21). This is the feeling I had when I heard my sister getting screamed at for something that wasn’t totally her fault.
