The Modern Revolution Human society, at this point, has become so impactful and complex, that it has dramatically changed the world. The Modern Revolution was one such catalyst for the rapidly growing population, medical advancements, and other innovations that made the world the way it is. The structure, complexity, and increased communication levels was due to the Modern Revolution. The staggering advancements made, improved the quality of life for humans on earth, and brought many positive attributes that changed the way of living. As shown in the chart on Big History Text 5, diseases such as small pox, diphtheria, and polio, which had high morbidity rates (from 16,000 - 30,000) have been reduced and eliminated to the point where it is 100% gone with no new cases seen in 2010. The vaccines have helped an extremely large amount of people as, had the disease not have been destroyed many more people could have gotten sick or died. The increased medical technology is safe and very effective. By getting vaccines it is harder to spread diseases, therefore, improves the society as a whole due to the people being healthier. Another example of how during the Modern Revolution, medicine and vaccine technology improved is in the article, “Advances in Vaccine Technology And Their Impact on Managed Care”, where it states, “Prior to advancements in medicine there had been little-to-no sanitation, and accordingly people living during this time had a very short life expectancy” (Dr. Jonathan A. McCullers 2008). Before the Modern Revolution there was little knowledge of sanitary care. The water was extremely contaminated, cities were cramped, and surgeries were frequently done by barbers, as they had the correct tools. Thus, disease was spread rapidly. Without the Modern Revolution, the world would change drastically in a negative manner. Literacy and education would be lower bring less educated people and society. Medical advancements would not be to the point where they are now, causing more deaths and diseases to plague to world. Inventions that changed the way humans receive and give information, as well as live their lives would most likely not be as developed. The Modern Revolution brought a better way of living for the inhabitants of the earth. As well as improve the way humans collectively learn, which is imperative to achieve the level of complexity that people have achieved. With the improvements the Modern Revolution brought it is easier to share, preserve, and build upon previous ideas. Had the Modern Revolution not happened, it is possible that people would still be growing their own crops and making their clothes.
