The actions of people today impact our lives now, and for future generations to come. Many examples of this can be found in revolutions where groups or people change history. In particular, the French Revolution has had a huge impact on society. This is shown in the novel “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens and how the revolution had an impact on people individually and as a whole. A revolution is a turn in society. The turn of a revolution is sudden and causes drastic changes in social interactions and thoughts. In the novel by Dickens, Madame Defarge compares the revolution to an earthquake, for there was a lot of preparation and build up before the actual event. This is similar to a pinwheel. Before the wheel can start moving, a buildup of air is necessary. This starts the turn of the revolution. The characters from England were involved in the revolution just as much as the French characters. For instance, Mr. Lorry was brought to the core of the fighting, through his job at Tellson's Bank. Mr. Lorry, an Englishman, at times traveled between the two banks in England and France. He was sent to France to retrieve the most important or valuable items held in the Tellson's Bank in France before they were destroyed, “The Lord above knows what the compromising consequence would be to numbers of our people, if some of our documents were seized or destroyed.”(227). Furthermore, Sydney Carton, an Englishman, was brought into the revolution through his love for Lucie Manette. Although he is does not have to travel to France, Carton goes to assist in any way he can. Carton ends up sacrificing himself to save Darnay, Lucie’s husband, “ A life you love.”(325).
