The Europeans heard many stories about other places in the world and the riches that they had. For example, kingdoms like Africa and Asia. The Roman Catholic church sent ambassadors on a mission to tell people about their religion and bring people to it but also realize that there were many people who lived in these areas so selling and trading things would benefit them. Which then gave them the opportunity to acquire new wealth in the busy area of Europe that they never knew about. They also wanted to expand after the black plague had occurred. The exploration led to discover the Indian ocean which worked as a bridge to exchanging. And around the Indian ocean came cities which self-governed. Being that the cities were dependent on each other
Throughout the Middle Ages, cities in Afro-Eurasia grew as trade centers due to advantages such as faster transportation from the waters of the ocean. Calicut brought merchants together from all around Asia because the government protected them through laws and policies, also of their spices exclusively pepper. As a result of the exchanges happening in Calicut, there was a war between Calicut, Portuguese and Chinese forces heavily armed with men and many lethal weapons. People from China and Portugal wanted to trade for Calicuts specialties, specialties like spices especially pepper that made them more wanted than others. From trading people inherited culture, religion, and ups and downs from trade.
Toward the end of pre-colonial times in Europe, due to the fall of Constantinople, many European nations felt the need to find an alternate route to the East Indies. The trade of rare goods such as spices, rice, exotic fruits and silk fabrics were much in demand, but came at extreme prices. In the beginning of the ‘Age of Exploration’, Portugal was in the forefront with the early explorers Henry the Navigator, Zarco and Tristao Vaz Teixeira, and Diogo Silves discovering the Madeira Islands, the Azores, and the exploration of Africa respectively, but King John the II of Portugal was unconvinced by Christopher Columbus’s pleas to fund his plan to sail West to the East Indies. Columbus made many demands for self-profit, including ten percent of any riches with which he returned, and even an ‘Admiralty’. Subsequently, Columbus took his plans to Queen Isabella of Spain. Spain acquiesced, and Columbus set off on his fateful journey. The Roman Catholic Church was very interested in expanding the Christian faith during this time and applied its influence on the monarchy. Religion also played a large personal role as Columbus truly believed that God spoke to him, and guided his hand. Additionally, at this time in Europe, land and food were at a premium. The monarchs of the era were fully aware that the acquisition of more land, slave labor and possible natural resources would greatly increase their power, prestige and subsequent wealth. After learning of Columbus’ successful return and the Treaty of Tordesillas (which divided the New World between Spain and Portugal), King Henry VII of England threw his hat into the ring and sent John Cabot sailing from Bristol on an attempt to find a shorter route to the ‘Indies’. Not to be left out in ...
The small environment no longer had enough resources to sustain such a large population which motivated them to subdivide and move on. They expanded southward and eastward. They developed seasonal rounds of activity and movement. Climate change expanded the temperate forest throughout North America allowing them to become more familiar with their land. Early Americans. Soon the domestication of plants and animals established. They developed different cultures traditions diets and languages. During the late fifteenth century, Europeans developed the navigational technology and ambitions which allowed them to explore and conquer the world's seas. The Atlantic Ocean once a barrier became a bridge to vast lands and people. The Europeans traveled to the West Indies and India by traveling around Africa. The new discoveries transformed Europe into one of the most dominant continents. European Christians first felt surrounded by their Muslim neighbors. The Muslims were more a more powerful religion extended to North Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia. The Europeans Christians got an opportunity to break out of the Muslim world and spread their beliefs to the newly discovered world and search for the trade riches such as gold, silks, and
As new ideas traveled main trade routes, such as the Silk Road and the Mediterranean, the effects of such were felt through an influx of contact between countries due to increased desire for new information and countries gaining a larger presence on the world stage. This phenomenon can also be seen through the lens of cultural exchange that took place during this same time period in Eurasia. A major component of the Eurasian trade networks, such as the Silk Road and Indian Ocean, was that they fostered interregional contacts that had ceased to previously exist. When a country had a desire for study or technology, they earned more respect on the global stage. This can be further examined by looking at Marco Polo’s voyage into Asia.
Although the expanding Europeans’ forces were much smaller than that of the landed Chinese societies, technological advancements helped to negate the disadvantage pushed by the sheer population of the Chinese; however, both cultures were very adept and advanced in terms of naval warfare and exploration, making the seas and oceans a battleground for both cultures. At the time, Europeans were finding themselves short of land and room for expansion due to numerous empires in a relatively small area. This led to the search for land. The political powers sought wealth and hoped to achieve this by conquering Asians markets as had been done in the west. Much like the political powers, the Christian church greedily sought mass expansion and conversion, pushing for missions in the foreign lands.
There’s so many different kinds of people who have had a huge impact on how and why we live our lives the way we do today. 1. The factors that motivated the European (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch and English in particular) to explore and colonize North America and South America concerned material gain and / or religious freedom.
1. There were several factors that caused or encouraged European exploration and expansion. The first factor was the Europeans’ long-lasting interest in areas outside Europe. Some writers wrote of an imaginary Christian kingdom in Africa led by Prester John, while other wrote of lands that were rich in resources or were filled with hostile creatures. Muslims long had control of trade routes in Eurasia, but the Mongols reopened the trade routes to Europeans, allowing travelers such as Marco Polo to visit East Asia to find spices and other luxury items. This brings us to our second motive: $$ MONEY $$ and profits. Europeans wanted to find gold and other precious items. Spices were considered extremely valuable by many Europeans and made many

The immediate cause of the European voyages of discovery was the conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks in 1453. While Egypt and Italian city-state of Venice was left with a monopoly on ottoman trade for spices and eastern goods it allowed Portugal and Spain to break the grip by finding an Atlantic route. Portugal took the lead in the Atlantic exploration because of the reconquest from the Muslims, good finances, and their long standing seafaring traditions. In dealing with agriculture, The Portuguese discovered Brazil on accident, but they concentrated on the Far East and used Brazil as a ground for criminals. Pernambuco, the first area to be settled, became the world’s largest sugar producer by 1550. Pernambuco was a land of plantations and Indian slaves. While the market for sugar grew so did the need for slaves. Therefore the African Slave start became greatly into effect. Around 1511 Africans began working as slaves in the Americas. In 1492, Columbus embarked on his voyage from Spain to the Americas. The Euro...
The discovery of the new world brought the Europeans resources, money, and people. Discovery of the new was such an impact on the European exploration because of land. Countries would now have more land in their name with lots of resources. Discovery the new world made the European come up with the ideal of slavery. This was a negative for the people who lived on the land because they were either killed, brought into slavery, or kicked off the island (3). Crops and resources was another reason why the discovery of the new world was important. Exploring the world gave the Europeans resources that were very convenience. Gold was the greatest convenience resources found during the European exploration (3). When the Europeans were traveling across they weren’t just looking for land and money. They also learned from the Indians and others about their culture (3). Learning about another culture made the explorers bring back some of their culture and share it with the old world. The explorers found lots of resources and crops that they didn’t have, they also found out that the Indians didn’t have things they had, and this is what lead to the Columbian

Materials such as tin, rubber, gold, oil, copper, and cotton. Some nations had these resources easily available. This interested the strong and powerful nations who were lacking these materials.
Many people think that America’s founding fathers were the originators of revolutionary principals that America is based on. They give complete credit to men like Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and Gorge Washington to how America is today. But in reality, earlier enlightenment philosophers came up with the ideas. Enlightenment philosophers, such as John Locke and Baron de Montesquieu, where thinkers that started to judge and doubt the status quo of social structure, religion, and government in the 17th and 18th centuries. At the time these philosopher’s ideas were radical, and even considered senseless. Now because the founding fathers introduced these ideas into America, we see that these ideas work. The founding fathers used an incredible amount of ideas from enlightenment philosophers such as natural rights, separation of power, and consent of the governed.
Europe was at a fairly weak point in its history following the Black Death. After a few centuries of rebuilding, however, Europe developed into the powerful continent it is today. Europe is home to many modern world powers, which have been around for hundreds of years, and have experienced highs and lows in their histories. One of the biggest lows for Europe was the Black Death, which killed one third of the European population, and left many more poor and alone. Though the Black Death had devastating consequences, it also instigated changes, such as the creation of a middle class, which would lead Europe to its rebirth or, Renaissance. Throughout the Renaissance, Europe’s culture and economy grew, along with their desire to explore the world. As Europe entered the Age of Exploration, European explorers had three motives above all others that drove them forward in their discoveries. The European desire for God, gold, and glory, had a major impact on the early modern world.
